That's some interesting news about Waluigi in Mario Tennis was originally planned to be Foreman Spike... would have much preferred it that way considering my Wrecking Crew fandom.

The very first game that was developed buy Ubisoft was called "Zombi"

zombi_box6but8.jpg

So that kind of means that "Zombi U" is actually not a new IP but part of a franchise.

(Get it, because German implies hi-class than generic Spanish!)

I'm still stupefied at US and EU's decision of switching O and X's function.

It may be urban myth, but at work I was told that it was due to the different way that Westerners hold controllers compared to how the Japanese tend to; Westerners tend to have their thumb coming in from the bottom, so X is directly under it; the Japanese tend to have their thumb coming into the side, so O is directly under it.

I think this is legitimately a pretty cool fact. Any references in it?
Going by the Wikipedia entry, there seems to be some mechanics in common, most notably player characters becoming enemy zombies upon death.

Wikipedia said:
A first-person arcade adventure, it draws inspiration from the George A. Romero film Dawn of the Dead; the player controlling four protagonists exploring a zombie-filled shopping mall. It draws from many parts of the film, including the gunshops, the escalators, and the articulated trucks used to block the entrances. If a character's health was depleted, he turned into a zombie, which then roamed the room they died in. Zombies can also be killed either by numerous body shots, or a single shot to the head. Characters were named after the creators of the game.

Just popping in here from the Balloon Trip Breeze thread, but after watching the video of Nintendoland is the voice of Monita different in the European and American releases? Her voice in the video I watched sounded slightly deeper and I swear i hear an accent (English accent to my American ears).

Hasemo

I just tweeted that Zombi/U thing, and Bignoz jipé caro, the Co-Creative Director of ZombiU has answered me.
@Hasemo i did play and finish this game when i was a kid. Some in the team too, but ZombiU is NOT a sequel of Zombi.
Myth busted. :(

I thought this was well known since I see it mentioned all the time whenever someone says "Zombi U is a terrible name!"

Monita's got a British accent in the EU version, whereas he/she has got an American accent in the US version.

I actually like her/his British voice a lot :)

ZombiU is a fucking awful name, either way

The game itself makes more than up for it.

Also you can unlock a 1980's title screen in ZombiU via uPlay and the background melody is that of the original Zombi game (I think, I can't confirm this as I haven't played the original game, but the background melody definitely sounds more different than just being "chiptuned")

How about this way. Call them strokes. You draw a circle in one stroke. An X with two. A triangle with three. A square with four.

I too had noticed that "coincidence" years ago.

Considering that it was designed by the Japanese and their entire writing system is based on 'strokes' it would make more sense.

I wanted to use this exact logic, but I knew somebody would come and say that you can technically draw a triangle and square with just one stroke, you just have to change your direction precisely so I gave up before I tried..

Let's see what its designer has to say:
That explains how the controller got its look, but not how the buttons got their rather unique names. "That was also pretty tough," Goto revealed. "Other game companies at the time assigned alphabet letters or colors to the buttons. We wanted something simple to remember, which is why we went with icons or symbols, and I came up with the triangle-circle-X-square combination immediately afterward. I gave each symbol a meaning and a color. The triangle refers to viewpoint; I had it represent one's head or direction and made it green. Square refers to a piece of paper; I had it represent menus or documents and made it pink. The circle and X represent 'yes' or 'no' decision-making and I made them red and blue respectively. People thought those colors were mixed up, and I had to reinforce to management that that's what I wanted."

I never did learn the PS button layout. Every time there's an on-screen prompt to press a face button, I have to actually glance at the controller. Letters, I have no problems with, but shapes is apparently something my brain just can't internalize.

Mind blown.

Guess it's the opposite for me. I never got used to letters on layouts. On the 360 pad, I know the colors, and I don't think I've ever gotten used to early Nintendo console layouts.

Funny thing is I have the exact same problem with Xbox :d. I always think the blue X is bottom button cause I'm too used to dualshock.

Same, I'm terrible with letter based controllers. Except the Gamecube which just made too much sense.

Same here. I have no problem whatsoever with the PS buttons, but the ABXY ? Between the colors and button layout spanning over several consoles, I miss half of the time there's a prompt onscreen. I mean, look at this :

You can criticize Sony's buttons layout or how the controller didn't evolve that much between generations, but at least it's original and recognizable.

I could probably say what they are if I had time to think about it, but when a QTE shows up suddenly, I'm screwed. Currently ruining my enjoyment of Lollipop Chainsaw.

I noticed an useless little thing in Luigi's Mansion.

There's a Pipe Room in wich you must freeze a river of water to proceed. The "cool" thing is that the pipes in the ceiling are broken and you can see drops of water falling to the ground. You can freeze the pipes and the drops will stop falling... useless (I think..), but for the first time Luigi is doing his real job!

Playing PaRappa and Lammy for any length of time will drill these into your head real quick.

Well you're mixing up controllers of different brands :p

Probably already known. But the praise the sun animation in dark souls comes from the special animation when casting miracles when wearing the ring of sincere prayer in demon's souls.

Not a shocking secret at all, but it blew my mind to read that the voice actress for Clementine from the walking dead was the same voice actress as trixie trotter from back to the future. Could just be because the roles were so different though.

Well I happen to own different brands of consoles after all !

I do too but I don't get that problem :p

Hmm we need more "Oh, neat!" stuff in Pokemon but not Pokefact shit. Like how in BW2 Unova suddenly got new mons - but it is explained in-game that they're from a broken Poketransfer.

the recent absurd revelations made in the Phantom Pain trailer in relation to MGS, even down to zooming in and finding out the model and make of freaking electrical outlets to determine the location the game takes place in.
