The most obviously shocking thing about Super Mario 64 was that it was one huge Reality Show.
It's been known for a long time that originally the E. Gadd items were going to be objects from other franchises. There's also unused text from the original scenarios.Underused Superstar Saga sprites, thanks to Kokonoe in Sonic-GAF for these:
I'm surprised there's no joke about

I'm still stupefied at US and EU's decision of switching O and X's function.

The very first game that was developed buy Ubisoft was called "Zombi"
So that kind of means that "Zombi U" is actually not a new IP but part of a franchise.
Going by the Wikipedia entry, there seems to be some mechanics in common, most notably player characters becoming enemy zombies upon death.I think this is legitimately a pretty cool fact. Any references in it?
Wikipedia said:A first-person arcade adventure, it draws inspiration from the George A. Romero film Dawn of the Dead; the player controlling four protagonists exploring a zombie-filled shopping mall. It draws from many parts of the film, including the gunshops, the escalators, and the articulated trucks used to block the entrances. If a character's health was depleted, he turned into a zombie, which then roamed the room they died in. Zombies can also be killed either by numerous body shots, or a single shot to the head. Characters were named after the creators of the game.
Myth busted.@Hasemo i did play and finish this game when i was a kid. Some in the team too, but ZombiU is NOT a sequel of Zombi.

The upside down L on Waluigi's hat isn't meant to be a L, it's actually the greek capital letter for "gamma".
Just popping in here from the Balloon Trip Breeze thread, but after watching the video of Nintendoland is the voice of Monita different in the European and American releases? Her voice in the video I watched sounded slightly deeper and I swear i hear an accent (English accent to my American ears).
ZombiU is a fucking awful name, either way

I literally cannot imagine a world in which anyone gives a genuine shit.
How about this way. Call them strokes. You draw a circle in one stroke. An X with two. A triangle with three. A square with four.An has at least X 4 sides though, and it can go way up to like 8 or 12.
*e*
What Toythatkills said.

I too had noticed that "coincidence" years ago.

http://www.1up.com/news/playstation-1-designThat explains how the controller got its look, but not how the buttons got their rather unique names. "That was also pretty tough," Goto revealed. "Other game companies at the time assigned alphabet letters or colors to the buttons. We wanted something simple to remember, which is why we went with icons or symbols, and I came up with the triangle-circle-X-square combination immediately afterward. I gave each symbol a meaning and a color. The triangle refers to viewpoint; I had it represent one's head or direction and made it green. Square refers to a piece of paper; I had it represent menus or documents and made it pink. The circle and X represent 'yes' or 'no' decision-making and I made them red and blue respectively. People thought those colors were mixed up, and I had to reinforce to management that that's what I wanted."
Me too.I never did learn the PS button layout. Every time there's an on-screen prompt to press a face button, I have to actually glance at the controller. Letters, I have no problems with, but shapes is apparently something my brain just can't internalize.

Guess it's the opposite for me. I never got used to letters on layouts. On the 360 pad, I know the colors, and I don't think I've ever gotten used to early Nintendo console layouts.

I never knew there was a "loser" cutscene in Mario Kart 64

Wonder why the other games did away with this (or did they?)
Same here. I have no problem whatsoever with the PS buttons, but the ABXY ? Between the colors and button layout spanning over several consoles, I miss half of the time there's a prompt onscreen. I mean, look at this :
You can criticize Sony's buttons layout or how the controller didn't evolve that much between generations, but at least it's original and recognizable.
