How important is the update? Can you still play games on it and hold off for a day or two on the update until after the Christmas download rush?

You can play out-of-the-box, but if at all possible you should just follow Nintendo's advice and update before Christmas and then repack it.

I thought everyone knew there could only be one Wiipad connected right now. At some point we'll be able to use two, but no game supports it, so there's no point.
I didn't know, I wanted to play split screen BLOPS 2. One would assume it would work as a second controller, I was unfortunately wrong.

haha yeah, game is really surprisingly long. Hopefully you don't get burned out

Nah, I really like how it feels. Just hoping it doesn't glitch up on me again. I've been good for a while though, and it saves often, so things should be ok.

I am a bit shocked at how much I've played vs how much I have to go. Didn't see that coming at all lol

Yeah. Maybe they should be clearer for those who aren't in the know. But no game supports two game pads at the moment. I'm sure there will be a lot of noise when it's finally available.

For now if one person uses the TV and the other the Wiipad, then that should allow for two people playing.

I think I'll soon pay that $80 for Amazon Prime to get more movie streaming because I've been dropping $2 often enough I love this on my Wii U
.

The free Prime library is a small subset of the overall Amazon library. So you might still be paying $2 for movies. Still, prime is worth it if you buy stuff from Amazon a lot.

Got a black Wii U deluxe for Christmas, and the Gamepad doesn't charge. Tried charging it directly and with the cradle, tried unplugging the battery for a moment, plugging it into other outlets, nothing. Battery light won't come on and the Gamepad won't turn on. Great.

Guess I'll be spending the night playing the other game I got for Christmas:
Sonic 2006

Got some eShop money as an early Christmas present. Nano Assault is downloading right now. I plan on getting Trine as well, but I'm not sure how I should budget my spendings considering I want some 3DS stuff as well. This would be a lot simpler if Nintendo would unify the eShop.

This might be a dumb question, but did you try pressing the power button on the GamePad? (lol) The first time my GamePad died I plugged it in and expected it to turn on automatically (à la Apple products), but you have to press the power button.

I apologize if I insulted your intelligence. :p

Nah, I tried pressing the power button and holding the power button, it won't turn on. I plugged it in as soon as I opened the box and started a system update, and it died while still plugged in. The manual says the battery light should come on while charging but it won't light up no matter what.

Holy crap, they were not kidding about Sonic 2006's controls. What a trainwreck.

Gotta say Assassin's Creed 3 is amazing. I do see some of the issues others have been talking about. Some bother me more then most but none have been a deal breaker for me. At least so far. Just got to the homestead section so perhaps I'm still early. The scope of the game is amazing and perhaps in time that is enough to make me not overlook the negatives but just marginalize them.

What is interesting I'm finding is that things people were talking about in the OT do seem to be explained in the game. The impression I got was things weren't just there and not clear. They seem to be from what I can tell. Perhaps it was just people exaggerating.

What I do know is in the end for certain is that I want more games like this. (Just like I'm looking forward to the next Fallout and Elders Scroll.) If they don't come to Wii U I will certainly get them on my PC.

I changed my mind about Black Ops 2 again and I think I'm finally done with Call of Duty as a series. I think the latest game is good but I'm personally really am tired of the military shooter scene but not games that have shooting in them(Red Steel 2, ZombiU, Metroid Prime, etc).

Edit:

As for the gamepad not charging I think someone said they took the battery out and put it back in when they encountered this issue. Might want to give that a try. I don't think it voids the warranty.

Finally got the U, along with Nintendoland (included),ZombieU, Blops2 and also Eshop-ed Nano Assault, Tekken and Trine 2.

Having a blast with it!

More time with Nano Assault, Tekken and Blops2 ATM, though I can't wait to get infected by ZombieU.

Random thoughts:
- The system/gamepad feels amazing.
- Off-TV play is a revelation. All titles/apps should support it.
- Browser is fast/flexible. It replaced my HTPC for my couch surfing needs.
- Wireless seemed to be working fine, but run into issues when downloading Tekken Tag Tournament (~16GB). Could be my router's fault but anyways, I'm now using a wired connection and never looked back.
- Does the WaraWara Plaza ever "update"? It keeps saying that i've "been using the web browser". Isn't that supposed to be the most used game/app? I'm pretty sure i've done more gaming than browsing.
- MiiVerse is a smart move by Nintento and a pleasant surprise.
- I was constantly putting the gamepad on it's cradle to charge, even after 5mins of use, and it started to get a little annoying, if not neurotic. I now use the gamepad stand with the AC adapter always plugged-in. Full brightness FTW!!
- Rayman Demo looks incredible. Can't wait for full release.
- Fifa 13 Demo looks/plays better than I expected. It looks beautiful on the gamepad though I can't find a true off-tv option - main camera is a bordered part of gamepad UI. Anyone got the full game? Missing features-aside (which i'm not really missing since i'm on the PES train), does it play a decent game of football?

Just got the Wii U for my son for Xmas. I opened it up tonight to run the update so he doesn't have to wait to plug it in and play.

It brings back some memories from when I got the NES for Xmas.

I wanted to pop in New Super Mario U so bad and start playing tonight. It took all I had to put that fucker back in the box.

I was really surprised at how good that controller felt in my hands. The sticks felt great and it has about the perfect weight to it.

Now come on Santa hurry up and get here already

There's a reason Assassin's Creed III was reviewed largely pretty favourably, it's a good game. It has problems, but there is some awesome stuff in there. I really loved the game overall.

I wonder how you will feel about that after playing Zombi U(provided you actually like the game). It pretty much couldn't exist as it does without the gamepad used in conjunction with the tv simultaneously. I love off screen play, but every time I think about Zombi U, it just makes me remember how special that controller really is. Quite a few possibilities can be had with it, and all of them seem to actually be good.

Reading this actually made me feel warm. I'm sure he will enjoy the time playing it with you :^)

What are people opinion on chasing auroa if its mostly going to played as a single player game?

Shallow for a single player gamer. Good for multiplayer, but single player is just you flying through courses trying to increase your time and score. The levels are cool but def. made with multiplayer in mind.

Curious,how old is your son?

Heard from one person on here and another else where that it's shallow as a single player game. Not recommended from either of them. Haven't played it myself, but from what I've seen, that is what it looks like.

Thanks for the quick responses. I'll leave it then and just pick up little inferno while its on sale.

I might pick up Trine 2 but I probably shouldn't as I have it on my PS3. That new console smell is clouding my senses haha

Not sure how much of Trine 2 is the new content since I've only played a demo on PS3. I guess maybe check that out and see if it's worth the price for you.

Just played some Sonic Racing on my brothers brand new WiiU. Had a good old time in a Grand Prix playing as Ralph. Honestly, though, it just made me excited for Mario Kart. Really good game though, may pick up a Japanese copy.

Got my wii u today. Update took about an hour. And since it was late i just popped in each game to see if they needed updates and then turned it off. I did play DK Crash Course and Yoshi Fruit Cart in Nintendoland tho. Had lots of fun. Can't wait to play more.

Got ZombiU and was Gifted Batman. Gonna go get ninja gaiden and probably download mario and sonic transformed.

I'm right there with ya. Did the update and setup two accounts, one for me with the Nintendo ID and one for my son without. Played a little bit with Nintendo TVii but I really wanted to play a game. Oh well, one more day.

New Super Mario Bros U will have a software update to do before you can start playing it for the first time. Nothing too big, under 5 minutes.
