And then the LORD David Bowie saith to his Son, Jonny Depp: 'Go, and spread my image amongst the cosmos. For every living thing is in anguish and only the LIGHT shall give them reprieve.'
Holy shit man, thanks for this advice. Just downloaded the version 1.53 and its works flawlessly on my S3+Wiimote. So weird being able to play Snes games on my phone with good contols. Must be qute awesome on a tablet like the Nexus 7.

Are there any other good free emulators for GBA, N64 or Mega Drive you could recommended ?

Android games should support the Wiimote native, i mean its easy as hell to register.Platformers like Gunman Clive would be even more awesome like that.
The good news is, Broglia has an emu for most old systems including Sega CD that is as flawless and feature-filled as the free Snes one. Bad news is he charges $3-$5 each for them. But it's worth it if you're serious about good emulation.

Ah man. I just upgraded Rayman Jungle Run on my Nexus 10 and it not only deleted all of my progress, it also added a few minor glitches that weren't there before (1 pixel wide white vertical line on the left side of the screen).

Definitely not worth the extra holiday levels. :'(

Looks like DOSBox turbo is on sale if anyone's interested in playing old DOS\Win3.1 games. Runs quite well on my Nexus 10, plays Dungeon Keeper in low res mode.

Good at being the bigger man
I bought the app and now my paid for version is being replaced by a free version with shitty ads that destroy battery life.

There's a reason I buy apps rather than use the free ones.
We made it so that if you had the original paid version ads would be disabled. We tested this on multiple android devices and it worked.

Send me a PM and I'll send you a version of the game with ads disabled. I will also give you some extra games because of the trouble.

Thanks for buying the game!

Looking for a good adventure game... Is Broken Sword a good game?

I like it, and it's considered a classic. I picked it up in the 25 cent sale but haven't played it so I can't speak to the quality of this version, but assuming it works fine I say go for it.

Ah mate, its fine thanks but you need to explain that if you've previously bought it you'll see no ads because as it is now you just get an update to "Ichi Free" on the play store then when you click it it says: "FREE FOR EVERYONE ADVERTISING SUPPORT!" So you just feel like you're getting screwed. I tried it before and didn't see any adverts, so all good now :)

Merry Christmas!

AppSales lists apps for sale, get it first. My personal vote is Sonic CD, $0.99 and a ton of fun.

Also, can anyone help me with this crap Amazon Appstore? I downloaded World of Goo, and I keep getting an app not installed error.

Um so i have a question here. I'm about to buy my first game on an android device: Game Dev Story, since i heard so many good things about it. When i go to purchase it, the price is listed in my regional currency (Argentine Pesos) but when i click on buy, the price is converted to Yen?? What's going on here?? I don't want to pay in yen and have to pay up to the credit card company in yen :/

Can You Imagine What SureAI Is Going To Do With Garfield?
So I updated Rayman Jungle Run and my progress was reset. :(
I'm brand new to mobile gaming (sans the PSP, but that's not exactly quite what we're talking about here) and it sounds like to me these games have A LOT of problems. I'm always hearing about games freezing near the end, lost save data, installation issues, etc. And this is supposedly what is going to top console gaming right now?

Good thing about that is that games can be easily updated, but I feel Android ports usually get the boot.

Welp, that's the thing.... I have a Kindle Fire HD which runs of the Android so yeah....

Anyways, currently playing Theatre of the Absurd and it's not bad.

I wouldn't necessarily make the generalization that these games have a lot of problems. It's just certain games that have issues. It's particularly sad that it's happening to Rayman Jungle Run, because it's a very high quality game from a major publisher. If this problem occurred with some no-name shovelware game, then it wouldn't even register on the radar for most people. The reputation of the game and the publisher makes this a much more visible case, however...and that might be a good thing, in a way.

It's not "good" that people apparently lost their data (or are in danger of doing so). It's "good" in that it could serve as a wake-up call to developers of games like this, to institute new forms of data protection and management.

Even since video game consoles started using memory cards, they provided users a way of managing their saved data. You could always copy your saves to another memory card, or a USB flash drive, or even (in the case of portable systems) connect the unit to a computer and back up to the computer's hard drive.

Many mobile operating systems don't have a standard for managing saved data. If you willingly uninstall a game, the process may or may not delete associated data files. Perhaps you want to preserve your saved game data, in case you decide you want to reinstall the game at a later time and resume where you left off. Or perhaps you want to delete the files for some reason (for example, to free up memory).

In the case of something like what happened with Rayman Jungle Run, the situation is much more difficult. Someone reading this message (or certain other messages on this page) will now know of the potential danger of losing data, but other unsuspecting players who haven't read these warnings in advance could get a very unpleasant surprise the next time they fire up the game. And heck, even if you do know of the potential danger, there isn't much you could do about it. A technically savvy user might be able to dig into the file system and find the essential file(s) to do a manual back up, but that data is practically useless anyway unless the game is patched again to recognize the old data.

An incident such as this should sound the alarm for Google to hammer out some kind of standardized gaming platform within Android, like Apple did with Game Center on iOS (or, basically, Microsoft and Sony with XBL and PSN, respectively). Introduce special servers for matchmaking with friends (I suppose they could use the Google profiles), online scoreboards, trophies/achievements, and cloud saving. There are already several disparate networks that do some of these things, but not one that stands head and shoulders above the rest.

In order to put this problem into perspective, one of the biggest game networks on Android was recently shut down by its parent company, with little advance warning, and with no way of migrating data to the parent company's other similar game network. This isn't a unique problem to Android, as it affected iOS as well. However, Apple's maintenance of an officially sanctioned, centralized network for gaming gives game developers and players a bit of a safety net that doesn't currently exist on Android.

Google needs to act quickly to provide this type of service to Android as well. Otherwise, players might be hesitant to invest time and money into Android games when other platforms can deliver the features that they expect.

So what are some of the best android games? I bought FF3 but I don't really like the movement controls with a touchscreen.

Oh and I have Angry Birds which is okay I guess.

I don't know, man..

I'm in Brazil right now, and while the store shows the prices in brazilian Reais, when going to checkout, the price converts to US Dollars.

Maybe it's something with the region of your Google account?

Hmm the version number is 1.4.34 (newest is 1.5.3 I think, bit pricey too) my phone isn't rooted or anything special - would it still be possible (since non-rooted phone) that I installed a pirated version or something? I don't remember the website looking dodgy at all but full of beta-ish apps, even had an early version of minigore. I thought it might have been an old version that he's taken it off like with the snes version?..Bit new to android, only got it about a week ago. The emulator works really well with sonic and knuckles but yeah I'd appreciate if anyone knows for certain..don't particularly want a dodgy copy, who knows what it's doing.

Rooting has nothing to do with piracy or pirated apps.

For instance, you could easily side load a pirated app on any Android phone at a Verizon store kiosk in seconds if you wanted to. Rooting just gives the phone superuser rights, think of it as making yourself an Admin on a Windows PC.

If you didn't get it from Google Play, then there is a very good chance it is a pirated copy and as I said, I don't recall the app ever being 'free'. I also don't think $3.99 is pricey for the quality you get in return from a dev who is constantly updating and tweaking it either, especially if you are using it on a regular basis. It is the best Genesis emu available on Android bar none. This whole "Anything above $.99 for an app is expensive" mentality needs to die and the reason we have so many IAP 'Free' to install apps out there these days.

Granted there are other 'sub' app stores out there on Android, they aren't important enough or legit enough to the point that I can even recall their names. But a lot of piracy sites like to trick people into looking legit. Only Google Play is going to have the latest and greatest updates of a given app as well.

On the bright side, I wouldn't be too concerned with it doing anything nefarious. Piracy on Android is way overblown in terms of "OMG MY PHONE HAS A VIRUS" BS as it is. What you have there is a legitimate app and not some Chinese knock off. Most likely someone just 'ripped' the app (.apk file) from their phone and threw it up on MediaFire and that is what you downloaded.

In the end, if you like it enough, and use it enough...throw Robert $4 bucks and show some support. What he has been doing with SEGA CD emulation lately is kicking ass!

Thanks for the detailed explanation, I have a feeling you are right about it. I don't play it much anyway, I'd be fine without it until a sale or when I really want it as the only game I would like to play is Sonic and Knuckles and I have enough of Sonic on my phone as it is.

Recently I've just been 'prepping' my phone..gotten pretty full already. And today Amazon has gone crazy, at least in the UK - check out how many free apps there are!

World of Goo
Missile Defender
Shopper's Paradise HD
Gravilux
TuneIn Radio Pro
Moon Phase Pro
OfficeSuitProfessional 6
Call of Atlantis (Premium)
Radiant HD

---no clue what's on the US version though.

Legit? Chinese knockoffs?
You are talking about Linux packages not art or I dunno what.
I don't think 5$ is a big sum, and yes this mentality needs to die, but those 5$ emulator apps are mostly free and open source code (that ppl spent years develloping for free) that a guy tweaked and optimized for ARM processor (at best, since quite a few arm cores were coded for the game park handheld systems to begin with, for free, and most of the time open source) then compiled and put on Google play store. (He's now updating his apps every now and then with some minor tweaks and support for new commercial controllers and whatnot)

I'd rather spend 5$ to support the original devs of the emu rather than Robert Broglia and the other guys selling emulators that have been essentially free their whole life cycle..

Anyways, you guys should really wait for RetroArch 0.9.8 to come out on Google play(matter of days now) for free, then you'll be able to choose knowingly.

I've been really itching to do another playthrough of Chrono Trigger. My two options: the Android port for my new Nexus 7, which apparently has control issues and an ugly UI, or the PS1/PSN release with horrible load times. Has anyone here played the Android port? Which port will I hate less?

Also, are there any recommendations for RPGs on Android? FFIII looks great, but it's a little out of my price range at the moment. People seem to be asking this a lot, but nobody's really been answering...

I'm seconding that question...right now I'm playing Knights of Pen & Paper and it seems good, but I'd like to try something...more serious I guess. I was thinking about buying Chaos Rings, although reviews are mixed.

I just purchased and downloaded a game with probably the worst translation I have ever seen in a game in all of my life and it is called Gods Wars. This is an example of utterly, inexcusable complete laziness. You could say it's only .99 cents but then again so is quality stuff like Angry Birds, so no excuse there either.

So many sales plus Xmas gift money = a bit of a download spree.

Recently got:
Modern combat 4 (its OK I guess, I just wanted to see how it is lol)
World of goo (free Amazon)
Knights of pen and paper
Total war
Angry birds space
Angry birds star wars (actually pretty fun)
Pudding monsters
Anomaly Korea (loved first one)
Field runners
GTA vice city ( best GTA by far )
Dead space (loved it on iPhone, was on sale)

How the hell I'm gonna find time for all these when I have vita games, previous droid game backlog, films and books to get through as well I have no idea. Still all that cost less than £15 I think. Crazy.

Amazon UK's free app for today is Chu Chu Rocket. Just a day or two after I bought it. I would go Grrr but then I realise that it's moaning over a few pence and I start to feel sheepish.

How do you get apps that aren't compatible with your device?

buy it on pc and sideload it I think. You'd have to ask somebody more versed in this stuff.

Just got my first android smartphone and enjoying it (HTC EVO 4G LTE) bought so far:
- That office program that was .99 cents (got a refund later since amazon just made it free for today)
- NFS: MW which is pretty awesome
- Wild Blood
- Game Dev Story (best game so far played for about 4 hours straight)
- Spiderman
- Nova 3
- Rayman Run (had to get this through amazon since its not compatible on the google play store)

Gameloft all up in this bitch but they're so big i have like 2 gigs left lol
