Steam Winter Sales 2012 Thread 2: [Extended To Jan 7th For Encore Deals]

I don't really need a tag, but I figured I'd get one to make people jealous. Is it working?
Say I have Saints Row 3 already, but I want to get all the DLC for it. The cheapest way to get all the dlc is to get the Saints Row 3: The Full Package for $7.49. Will steam allow me to dl the game again PLUS all the dlc?

Steam should let you download and install any game as many times as you want. They typically mention game-specific activation limits on the store page, I recall seeing one for some game during the sale. But SR3 should be fine.

You might want to avoid downloading or activating the Bloodsucker DLC and whichever DLC activates cheats; someone mentioned they alter the core gameplay pretty significantly and can't be turned off once they're there.

https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/enhanced-steam/okadibdjfemgnhjiembecghcbfknbfhg

It highlights games/dlcs you already own in the steam store. Great addon for those who always want to know which dlcs they already own.
Note: Seems to not list dlcs that are purchased as pack. ie I bought the Sleeping Dogs Dragon Master Pack, it doesn't highlight the pack itself nor the individual dlcs

Features include:
* Highlighting games you already own
* Highlighting games on your wishlist
* Correctly calculating bundle discounts based on games you already own
* Showing you how much money you've spent on Steam for the lifetime of your account
* Highlighting DLC you own on a game page
* Fixing "No Image Available" game icons on your wishlist for any game or DLC

Examples of the dlc lists:
Saints Row The Third

Dungeon Defenders

Note: Any else noticed the naming of the dlcs? Some have dashes, some have colons, some have none

This should be added to OP

Good add-on.

The example picture though, reminded me that Brothers-in-Arms never went on sale. I wanted to finally buy and play the first one. I recall playing it in the PS2 several years ago, but never got around to get it. ):

Cool.

I've spent $815 on Steam alone over 5 years. Not too bad.

With major oversight, I seemed to have forgotten to buy myself To The Moon- even though I gifted it several times! The horror of searching through a vast library, just to not find it?!

No good! Still, the backlog is enormous. Just went to go play it, and whoa, I thought Steam was playing tricks on me!

Wow, Futuremark customer support is excellent. I accidentally purchased a non Steam copy of Unstoppable Gorg -- I thought it was Steamworks so I'm not sure how... Anyway, they sorted me out with a key after I explained what happened. It was really cool of them.

Unrelated, when did Steam increase the character limit for reviews? I've been keeping mine brief, trying to avoid the limit but then I noticed a friends recommendation today that was so long it had a scroll bar.

So, Spec Ops: The Line. I'll just quote the rec I wrote on the Steam page:

Best game I have finished all year! And still $2.50 at Amazon for another three days (with EC coupon).
Ah, just for the first time connected you with the Caerith on my Steam friends list.

You play a shitton of Dark Souls lol

Found another bug :p

It says that I have only spent $6.24. It doesn't count euro
Lucky you.

it says $6443.52 for me o_O
For the love of god

Thanks for the heads up, I've been saying for a while that the Steam Store itself should be updated in a similar manner. I think it's about time I switched to Chrome.

Edit: It's not exactly perfect. For instance, the Darksiders 2 Mortis Pack isn't shaded as owned, and neither is Civ V GoTY. Still, at least I no longer have to add every piece of DLC to my cart and manually remove each of the ones I already own.

Telltale really has to patch that. Only reason why I'm still not playing The Walking Dead. That and I can't decide what to play next.
Play it, it's SO good. So much that I played it from zero to completion in a single day. One of 2012's best games.

Okay, real quick before the sale ends:

I have avoided almost all the sales so far, as I've been downloading and playing games from the Xbox 360 holiday sale. Plus I just rebuilt my PC a few days ago. Even though I have much to catch up on, and will probably not get around to playing it for some time, I wanna get one of these three games while the price is good. Only one, though!

Borderlands 2
Dishonored
Darksiders 2

Which should I get? If I get Darksiders 2 I will just buy the THQ bundle, even though the vast majority of games will be left unplayed, or I already own them. I loved Borderlands something fierce, and love games with a stealth component, and games that allow you much choice or leeway to achieve the mission goals your own way.

So undecided...

Dishonored has stealth and you can accomplish the missions multiple ways. Also is great and a sequel is confirmed

Another vote for Dishonored.

It didn't rock my socks off as I would've hoped for, but really no contest along those two.

borderlands 2 is an improved borderlands in pretty much every way. though it sounds like they have plans for lots of dlc (talking about a few extra classes and a second season pass beyond this first one) so waiting on it likely isn't a horrible idea. (it would get my vote between the 3 though though it's the only one of those i own/ have played)

Borderlands 2 is probably my game of the year (and it is an immense improvement upon the original) and Dishonored is probably the most disappointed I've been with a non-bargin bin purchase this year, so I'll go with BL2.

Darksiders 2 is merely OK.

Do not buy any of these games

prices will be better in the summer sale, either on Steam or on other sites or on physical steamworks copies.

if you are not going to play any of these games until then they are too expensive

As good as FTL is (my game of the year...)

I think it needs one more panel.

ftl_thydcav.png

An expansion or DLC would be more than welcome.

this is pretty much me. I still didn't even beat it on easy and I'm closing in on 20 hours by now surely.

in my defense, I was scaredof teleporting my dudes over the to the ship and didn't do that not even once for the first ten or so hours. got to 'learn' how that works now. I keep destroying that ship by accident while my guys are on it, or don't teleport em back quick enough and one dies, or a fucking giant spider eats one while I'm trying to help out innocents or WHATEVER.

I would like a dark sci fi series based off FTL. Star Trek mixed with elements from Walking Dead, XCOM and FTL.

and no fucking puppets in space

Fuck, I regret getting all the DLC for Sleeping Dogs when it was cheap. Didn't realized some where cheats until I started playing the game :(

And now all of Steam is green. Thanks for reminding me that I'm a hoarder with a huge backlog :D

The only ones that are The Top Dog and Red Envelope Pack. Top Dog seriously makes it super easy combined with the money from Red Envelope.

I have finished both Dishonored and Borderlands 2. They are significantly different games as you can already tell. You will probably get much, much more playtime out of Borderlands 2 if you enjoy loot games because the end-game loot grind gets pretty addictive. Plus once you beat the game the first time, you can play through again on New Game+ and all the enemies level up and become harder, and their drops get better. And all that is only with one character.

Dishonored is great and I finished it twice, but its replayability comes from trying the same missions with different approaches. It's a fantastic game with a great ambiance and art style, but it really is only for someone who enjoys stealth games and loves replaying them to try out different approaches.

It may be worth waiting on a Borderlands 2 GOTY bundle that comes with all the DLC, since they still haven't upped the level cap and will probably be announcing that AFTER they finish releasing DLC for the season pass.

True, I didn't think about all the extra DLC. Waiting for a GOTY edition might be worth it.

This is an option as well. Since my PC broke down, I've purchased The Witcher 2, the Humble THQ Bundle (of which I am currently playing Saints Row the Third) and Rage. I also bought a bunch of XBLA games, so I am not lacking for games to play. But if the game is good enough I am still willing to buy it at $30. I bought Skyrim at the end of last years Steam Holiday sale, @ $40 no less, yet how many hours I've put into that game it was worth it. Plus, once im done with my backlog of games, I will need something else to play!

If I do jump on one of these deals, it looks like Dishonored is the winner. Thanks guys.

Ah. In that case, what you want to avoid are the Top Dog packs (XP) as well as the High Roller and Red Envelope packs (money).

awesome thanks. now im on the fence about dead island. i remember hearing that it was a disappointment when it launched but now i see a lot of people getting.

I cant bring myself to finish Dishonored knowing how shitty the story is :(

I didn't think it was that bad TBH.
I beat the game in a Pacificst Stealth run and liked the ending I got, even if it was simple. Overall the game is more about gameplay than story. I find that the characters are pretty good and liked many of the main cast and
the twist by the final 2 or so chapters make sense in the context of it being men in power being too ambitous, so I didn't have a problem with it. Heck if anything the Heart may as well have been hinting at them betraying you if you used it on them
