Kyousuke is essentially an inferior Heike without the bombast. Always scheming, always supremely confident in his own superiority. In the original ZKC he was never as interesting as his subordinates and it looks like that's going to continue here. I'm actually kind of happy to see the dude with the wild hair and the little ragamuffin loli again because ZKC had a fairly colorful and entertaining rogue's gallery, but I expect everyone to be uniformly grimdark'd. The one cool new thing about PANDRA? They're all chilling out on a GIANT INVISIBLE TERRORIST CRUISE SHIP called the Catastrophe. It's ridiculous, but it's also kind of pimpin'. I expect more exploding helicopters than an 80s action OVA.

Anyone on the fence can probably just skip this for now. I'll let everybody know if it gets worth your precious backlog season time.

i really disagree .. hyoubu was always a cool character because of his past and because of his actions .. fruthermore the recent manga chapter made him even more awesome.

You don't make a spin off featuring a character when said character isn't great to begin with.

I'd say people who don't know the manga should just check it out ( the first spin off episode to see if they like it or not ) it's a different take on the universe

From what I've seen (admittedly not a lot and I don't pay too much attention to these things), CG in anime is usually 24fps, or animated on ones. Maybe that's what he means?

The CG in that scene was definitely animated on threes (actually, the entire scene was). Looks really choppy in motion because the entire animation of the coins being dumped from the chest isn't moving quickly enough to mask how few frames were used to draw it:

Of course this takes time so you can't churn out gifs the moment an episode airs.

Well I find it helps, but yes it takes a while. And of course it only works if the background is still. Maybe when I work on some gifs next time I'll make a note of the sizes before and after erasing static parts.

Chet, how do you keep yourself composed when confronted with content like this in animation? When it's 24 minutes long without any breaks? Do you just like, pass out?

In this episode, the newbie Azusa learns the magic of chemistry when performing in a band. She's frustrated that the band spends so much time goofing off, which I frankly don't blame her for. She's a pretty fucking good guitarist (liked the drawing of Plant and Page together when she was playing for them. Wonder how much of the intended audience got that), and she fucking wants to play music, not have tea parties and picnics and play dress-up all the damn time. And she's more advanced than all of them. Yet, she is still impressed when they play together. Why? Chemistry, bitches.

It'll be interesting to see how she fits in going forward given that she seems so turned off by all the goofing off the club does. Will she lighten up, or will the club get serious? Let us (me) find out!

Azusa for the most part doesn't get her character development until the second season. The second season has a lot more focus on her.

Well that episode answered a lot of my questions regarding how they would tie this spin-off to the regular ZKC timeline and they did use a lot of subtles things unknow to the viewer butknow to the readers.

Hyoubu is quite similar to what he is really in the normal serie ( that darkness is why the other MC doesn't want him near "the children" )

Overall i'm liking what i'm seeing and i think this first episode was quite a good introduction to the cast ....i hope all the regular PANDRA members will appear in this new serie because they have cool powers too
