We have a new Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance trailer

Some of the detail is sparser because it's trying to maintain 60 fps. Same reason enemy limbs and shit explode rather than stay on the battlefield. The tradeoff is silky smoothness you can't appreciate on 30fps-capped YouTube. In practice I suspect we'll be too busy beasting and hunting for our next high-flying kill to nitpick the color palette or detailings.

I think some people have misunderstood the intentional kitschiness, but wow does it look aesthetically underwhelming. A lot of issues with the UI and environments, and as someone else said, the plasticky Japanese action game character models that are really only repulsive when highlighted in the cutscenes.

It looks like a very sound game, though, so I hope it transcends all those issues to become Platinum's second great game, after Bayonetta.

I actually quite like the mechanical design of the synthetic muscles, armored walkers, etc, but I guess I'm the only one.

I think Raiden driving the car was a tongue-in-cheek thing that the developers thought would be funny. I sure thought it was hilarious.

Fuck, I had wanted to wait on this game for a nice price drop. It is very hard to do so now, I haven't played a good action in a long time.

Currently polling second in Australia's federal election (first in the Gold Coast), this feral may one day be your Bogan King.

Even though they keep saying this, it's KojiPro, so I'm not holding them to any standard of retaining canon. Not that I think they'd outright say "This never happened", but I wouldn't be surprised to see them make a post-Revengeance game and further convolute/twist whatever batshit crazy stuff happens to Raiden.

Why is it that MGR threads seem to bring out all the people that actually don't understand how silly MGS is? It's Japanese GI Joe. It's not serious. it's not grounded. It never has been.

Embrace it, because that is what makes MG so awesome.

MGS is silly, but there are levels of silliness. Just like how some people use the argument "well RE has always been stupid so why the hate for RE6?" You have a certain playing field of stupidity thus it is very possible to go out of bounds. MGS has always had silly elements and plenty of humor, but for the most part the Kojima games have all felt like they're in the same bubble. With the exception of Peace Walker, which was just... well I don't know what that was. Kojima is good at mixing silliness and some modesty.

Revengeance seems a lot nuttier and all over the place to me by comparison and I don't think that's a ridiculous or hard to believe stance.

I've been on a complete media blackout for this ever since the game's rebirth in Platinum's hands. Good lord, I love what I see.

MG2 had a Ninja that worked for NASA, and a mercenary named Dirty Duck who worked for a terrorist organization called Egg Plant. Come on.

So the robot fired the missile and the missile was like

IMMA A MISSLE AND I'M GONNA GET YOU RAIDEN

But then Raiden activated E EQUALS EMCEE SQUARED and was like

BITCH YOU AIN'T A MISSILE

Also the Gray Fox plot is a rip-off of Black Color. Oh and there was a boss fight where you had to shoot a missile to your back to get a scientist off you. And trick a guard into thinking its night by hatching an owl egg. And I can't remember if it was MG or MG2 but you had an olympic skater who was a bodyguard to a world class scientist.

It's all about the execution and tone. Kojima is pretty good at taking ridiculous things and making them work for his context. Revengeance looks like a hog-wild splatterhouse of stupidity.

For the record I haven't played MG2. :p

The demo was fucking awesome.

I had a big dumb grin on my face the entire time.

This trailer was craazaay.

I wonder wtf is going on with Raiden? Dude was insane during this.

NO MORE DEAD CYBORG COPS man.

Eh, I think the ridiculous tone fit with raiden in this game, it wouldnt fit snake obviously, look at twinsnakes for example.

Although, Raiden driving a car is at least less awkward then some of the alternatives.

Raiden in a taxi.
Raiden on the train.
Raiden on the bus.

Deadly Poisonous Zanzibar Hamsters.

Raiden driving a car feels so out of place.
In an earlier trailer, he drives a car while wearing the Mariachi Suit and Bladewolf hanging out in the back seat.

Raiden's voice is so horrible, but that gameplay...

"Threatening a peace officer, deadly force is authorized"

*Puts away gun, whips out baton*

Seriously though, I'll never understand how you guys like games like these.
It might have something to do with the genre defining combat. Nobody cares about how stupid the presentation is. Nobody cares about the plot. Bayonetta has totally wacky art design and a barely coherent story, but we can all agree it's one of the top three action games of all time. MGR seems very much in line with PlatinumGames' past efforts: egregious story, so-so graphics, superb gameplay.

In other words, their priorities are in exactly the right order for an action game developer.

Somehow I find Raiden driving a car less preposterous than Ryu Hayabusa casually sitting in the passenger seat of a Jeep in NG3.
