Halo |OT14| They call it Halo

in season 4 might i recommend turning glowing knobs?

and then to blow the doors off in season 5, there should be a hacking minigame to unlock each door

By season 4 the Spartans will be using Telekinesis to open doors, mark my words.

By the way, anyone here with decent technical PC knowledge? I'm looking at a new computer right now and I'm wondering if the specs really are as good as I think they are.

So because of the new community playlist, and because Halo 3 wasn't being too kind to me this morning, I got the itch to play Halo 4 for the first time in a long time. Loaded it up, and I played about a game and a half before I turned it off. I think what pushed me over the edge was me trying to crouch around a corner, only to be ousted by some dude with Promethean Vision.

Oddly enough I find Promethean Vision is one of my least hated things in 4. The Boltshot outweighs everything else right now, next to that is jetpacks.

I get your point though.

See, I feel that PV is a necessary evil to counter people who camp corners with the boltshot.

At the same time PV ruins any sort of radar tactics for people not camping.

I'm part of the problem.

I have two statements to justify my sins:
1) I never used Camo with it. I purely use Thruster Pack.
2) I have stopped using it, as penance.

I really hope they retcon the Harvester into being reverse-engineered tech based on either remaining Precursor information in Requiem's databases or being a modified Precursor artifact itself. It just screams Precursor design, the Covenant Remnant is waaaay too ugly to design something that cool-looking themselves.

Those "projectiles" in episode one were downright depressing. Were they really that low on Halo Bandwidth™ that they had to create a new projectile and make it look like some horrible amalgam of Forerunner and Covenant tech? Christ, just recolor an explosion with a Forerunner-y center if you have to.

On the plus side, the music has been fantastic. I'm guessing music got to go uncompressed this time around because it was a direct download? It was nice getting to hear Awakening in a mission context beyond "Chief skydives to the first six seconds of Awakening being played through a potato."

Audio is still too low, but the pieces they chose for the sections were perfect.

Really? The audio mixing seemed perfect this time around when I played it. To be fair, I just went through on Easy to get a feel for the maps so everything was usually dead before the music kicked in.

Interesting tidbit about GoWJ including GoW1 in the package

inspired by research which suggested less than half of Gears 3 players had played the series opener

curious how that caries over with Halo 1/2 now.

There wasn't enough punch, but it was an upgrade compared to how it sounded before.

I don't even hate camo, it's the Boltshot that makes camo bad. Otherwise I rarely get killed by a camo user.

Not when snipers exist.

You can't spawn with a sniper (yet).

You guys ever play Big Team? Camo + DMR ruins maps like Ragnarok. Long sight lines plus the ability to be completely invisible when standing still virtually guarantees they will put two shots on you before you can find their spot. On a big open map like that I would say Camo ruins the game even more than Jetpack.

Why does it seem like Halo 4's camo is worse than Reach's in this respect? Is it because people no longer have to choose between camo and sprint?

I really think camo should be turned closer to the Anniversary maps power up in effect--you're fairly close to invisible when moving, maybe have it flicker more when sprinting--and then drop its duration to something less than <5 seconds with a longer recharge. That way it's more useful as a movement option rather than camping.

this is only the second half of season 1? jebus. we have to start paying for spartan ops starting with season 2, right? there'll be less people who buy that than people playing the Digital Extremes map pack

Spartan Ops made a change for the better. Not great, but a big improvement over the first half. New environments are beautiful, and once again a multiplayer environment works better for this mode than the one it's intended for. This was more along the lines of what I was expecting out of SpOps, minus the still-missing features like scoring and theater. This CGI cutscene took a turn for the worse in terms of storytelling (Elites seemed like fucking morons, hardly the jewel of the Covenant), but if that's the price I have to pay for better missions, so be it.

tl;dr - booze and Normal mode make SpOps somethingsomething

It's an awful feeling, isn't it? Countering one necessary evil (camping) by introducing a new evil isn't a good solution.

Don't you mean season 2? Aren't we only in the back half of season 1 right now?
Don't listen to kyle.

Camo should just be a map pickup. That would solve literally every single issue with the ability. If they simply must have it in the "new and improved" Halo 4 sandbox then at least put it on a personal ordnance along with speed boost, overshield, and damage boost.

This. Music was such a disappointment in the campaign.

I think most people here shy away from Big Team because it's always had a lot of sandbox issues. I personally think DMR starts break Big Team as much as Camo does.

I put it in a loadout and used it consistently last night for the first time. By the time the night was over, it made me feel like I had gone to the club and woken up next to the nastiest bitch in the place the next morning.

To think that you can spawn with that overpowered thing on your hip is just baffling to me. 343 might as well let people spawn in with the two shotguns as well- the boltshot's actually deadlier than either of them. It either needs to be pulled from loadouts altogether, or the power shot needs to be a shield-stripper, but not a 1HK.

I suggested this a while back in one of my 5 posts over at waypoint, and on Youtube also. People agreed and one guy wondered how 343 managed to miss such a great opportunity to take out 2 birds with 1 stone. Fix camo while having it function in the new ordinance system. It would have pleased almost everyone I think. No one had to deal with the AA anymore, yet still got camo, in the better form.

hopefully in season 3 we can move from pressing glowing buttons to flipping glowing switches.

All of this good slurp towards the new Spartan Ops is great. The new environments are cool, the enemy encounters are fun and logical, and the missions are overall fun (that's what the general consensus is anyways).

However, has anyone noticed the insane amount of fucking buttons you have to press this episode? For every "egghead" or reused environment they removed, they added another fucking button to press.

"Crimson, find a way to get inside that structure."

OH LOOK AT THIS EXTREMELY CONVENIENTLY PLACED BUTTON THAT'S ON THE FRONT OF THE DOOR BECAUSE THAT'S LOGICAL

Well episode 6 was terrible.

To add to my previous complaints, the last two missions were boring and the Covenant Harvester looked stupid.

The Harvester looked fine, but it just didn't match the Covenant theme.

The fact everyone thought that was Precusor, Flood or Forerunner themed and not Covenant sums that up :/

I just checked Waypoint, and I've played Haven over twice as much as any other map. 165 games on Haven, with Abandon in second place at 81 games. I hope Simplex is added into the rotation asap.

Also, the only weapons I have a negative K/D in are melee, plasma grenade, Boltshot, Carbine, Light Rifle, and then all the vehicles but the Ghost. I just recently got the hang of using the Boltshot, so that one will probably be goin' up.

Active Camo on demand is dumb.
And as you've pointed out a million times, active camo as a pick-up induces fun, interesting player behavior. Not just camping. Why we have to have this conversation again with Halo 4 baffles me.

Inside I actually thought it looked very Aliens, albeit with less black.

At this point, I really don't believe there will be a season 2.

What I'd still like to see, and hoped to see from Spartan Ops, were unique missions. Stuff you didn't do already in campaign. A stealth mission, where you have a silenced sniper and pistol where your goal is to kill one of Jull's high ranking officers. Or something like the famous AC130 mission in CoD4. There are enough unique things to try in the Halo universe. Instead, we're still doing almost the exact same thing in every mission: Kill these guys, push that button, fight the reinforcements, blow that up, kill some more baddies and fly away.

The only kinda different thing from that was the Mantis mission on Valhalla.
