Media Create Sales: Week 3, 2013 (Jan 14 - Jan 20)

Let's celebrate!

When WiiU falls below it. Vita saved?

Wonder if Capcom will leave DMC's brutally murdered body in the street or try to resuscitate? Because you don't feel your franchise is popular isn't exactly a good reason to basically remove everything that is identifiable about the series to its fanbase. More helpful would be just to you know... improve it...

1/2 is better than the 1/3 in the UK.

Victory?

There's nothing mysterious when Famitsu estimates 4k sales and the no. 20 for MC has sold 6k...

Ouch, is this game on PC too? If not capcom will port this to the PC and maybe Wii U just to grab a couple extra sales..

Honestly i was Nintendo the message couldn't be more clear.. I would think well.. there is no place for a nintendo home console in Japan. It's not only the WiiU sales, but look at how healthy is the 3ds, and the nintendo ips on it... It's not a situation where the portable market is a dominant alternative force anymore. The portable market IS the nintendo market.

In view of what DMC4 did, I don't know how those DMC numbers could be considered good.

Wii U is just terrible and the comment about vita being above 9K had to be a joke.

It's hard to really compare DmC directly to DMC4 sales wise considering how game sales in general have gone down considerably since then. You have to take it more in context with other games releasing now as opposed to previous games in the series.

Sony not dropping the price was dumb for reasons not relating to Wii U, and we saw that in the December NPDs.

Hmm, wonder if Wii U will be below PSP next week. Vita can have a friend.

to be honest i think sony didn't care how much they sold during the holidays in the sense it doesn't matter at this point. they wanted higher margins on every ps3 sold and they packed in some digital content to make it look valuable. they could have sold what 200000 more if they dropped but could have lost almost 50$ profit on every unit? i personally think it was a smart move. they will drop the price after the end of first quarter(early april) though which is the end of their fiscal year.

Even if the numbers aren't good, such statements after a few weeks are useless.

The top place is out of reach but there's a lof of action going at positions 2-5 ;)

| PS3 | 19.697 | 22.991 | 21.155 | 107.040 | 125.946 | 8.967.124 |
| WIU | 16.654 | 20.715 | | 104.452 | | 731.739 |
| PSP # | 15.343 | 17.069 | 17.181 | 87.285 | 110.752 | 19.716.296 |
| PSV | 9.036 | 11.088 | 15.219 | 53.433 | 76.495 | 1.184.258 |

And so most fascinating race of Q1 2013 begins :D

I assume the impending industry refresh will revitalize sales of both the Vita and the Wii U. The 7th gen just needs to end already. It's stagnating.

Don't disagree but its not like we shouldn't assume some changes come the end of the year.
Launch Bomba =/= Console Bomba. We know this.

Problem Nintendo really have is they have to show the WiiU adds value the 3DS doesn't have.
I think they will struggle here.

Yep, it is on PC too. I'm not sure if it is out yet (it is out in a few days in Europe i think).

ah, well i wouldnt think they would be to happy with these sales. You would think this is going to be hard to break 1mil ww. Outside of MH and DQ its seeming like all of capcoms games are not doing so hot

If Wii U numbers continue to be this poor, Sony should have no trouble making PS4 the top console. Don't mess up Sony.

But when you think about it, every major nintendo ip in japan shifted its more popular entry to nds or 3ds. Animal crossing, Mario kart, Mario...

What i'm saying is that for people interested in nintendo games in Japan ... a 3ds is way enough.

Iwata better drop some bombs today, or WiiUs will become bombs. maybe not Vita-like bombs but Gamecube bombs for sure

Also, DmC deserved bomba, refreshing to see.

Exactly. All new consoles have trends such as this, especially if their second month is January. People seem to continually forget context and past instances.

Japan
01/31 Shin Hokuto Musou
02/21 Tank! Tank! Tank!
03/14 Need for Speed: Most Wanted - A...
05/23 BioHazard: Revelations - Unveil...

Things wont get any better with such a barren release schedule in the next 4 months

I assume the impending industry refresh will revitalize sales of both the Vita and the Wii U. The 7th gen just needs to end already. It's stagnating.

The only things that are able to "refresh" the Vita/WiiU in Japan are pricecuts and loads of high quality/high demand exclusives (which won´t come for the Vita).

Oh thats what I agree with, but Nintendo arguably can utilise the WiiU in a way they can't do with the 3DS. We'll likely see this with Mario Universe and other games.

Panic mode Nintendo

Nintendo didn't magically make very well produced titles appear in 2011. They planned for them, panic mode Nintendo was Iwata cutting the price - they did so in the best way they could; they fucked up.

WiiU won't rely on some mythical 'secret sauce' but instead just good planning for Q3/Q4.

Not sure if it needs a price cut tbh; but we'll see. Special Offers and what not should be more effective. Maybe a free game download thing like NoE did with 3DS.

Holy crap AC:NL is just a beast. Vita back to its turf, where there's a lot that social services acquired for Wii U as well!

I doubt devs will announce AAA games for either system just because Orbis/Durango exist. That's some non-sequitur logic there.

I was expecting/predicting that at least Japan would embrace the Wii U, these aren't good numbers for a new console, especially one that is the successor to the Nintendo Wii, the most successful home console Nintendo has ever made. 16k is bad no matter how you view it

But all is not doom and gloom, they can right the ship and perhaps the day to start doing that is today, with that Nintendo direct. Showcasing some solid titles and delivering some new services. Hopefully this is just a blip, and not a indictment of the Wii U's future

3DS still kicking ass and i dont see any console or handheld being able to overthrow it in Japan, so at least Nintendo can rest easily there.
