Using Sixaxis on your PC? Stay away from MotionInJoy

Serious question, why is another recommendation necessary? 360 controller is much better anyway than Dual Shock shape.

360 controller is perfect for most modern games, but for ps1/ps2 emulation and any other games that you need a decent d-pad for, I prefer having the option to use my ps3 controller instead.

i've used it for hours and never had any ads pop up. did you download it from the official site?

FYI, i prefer DS3 for Dark Souls on PC over the 360 pad.

And yeah, I've never encountered the adware like stuff OP is making mention of either. Just the ads that run in the UI for the driver itself are all I get.

I've been using it for a year now. Never a single problem.

At first I hated setting up the controls and calibrating since it does have a bad UI, but then, (because apparently I am a little slow....) I just noticed the "enable 360 mode" button...

Soon as I did that Alan Wake, Ass Creed 1, and NFS: MW all were setup perfectly without any configuration in Motion Joy or the actual games.

It has also served me well in both Dolphin and PCSX2.

Never a single issue with the software. As a matter of fact its the only dualshock pc software i found usable...

someone in their forum made an offline version of the ds3_tool, it looks same but no ads and works offline too, it works. but yeah, it's a hideous amateurish program unlike the drivers they made which work well enough mostly. Occasionally it entirely disables my USB ports though and I have to restart to make it work again.

I've never had a problem with it, nor have I experienced any of the things you listed.

While my opinion of modern day China is pretty as much as low as it can possibly be, I'm also not paranoid.

...I've never had any problems with MotionInJoy/DS3 tool. Then again, I've been using whatever version was available in 2010 without updating. Maybe something changed since then.

This is why controllers shouldn't be used on a PC.

What if you want the console experience with the higher res and graphical settings of a computer? And by console experience, for me I mean using my ps3 controller.

This was my reasons for Alan Wake, NFS: MW, and Ass Creed 1.

Long ago (not anymore) part of the appeal to me for FF 14 was the fact that I could play it on my ps3 using a DS3 instead of the usual keyboard and mouse-clicking.

I've used it for years. It's not the most amazing software around, but it does its job.

Yeah, my version is probably also at least 2 years old.

Well, my version is just short of a year old. So the people getting screwed over by a newer version must have a pretty new release, as I would imagine it doesn't get updated that often. Haven't done any google looking to back that up, and I'm not at home to tell you which version of Motionjoy I have.

I can kind of attest for the OP.

As stated, I have used it for a few years at this point. No real pop-up ads or anything. Tried it today, suddenly started getting Chinese pop-ups.

This has been my experience with it too. Using it for well over a year and I have had absolutely no problems. No pop ups, no messing with other bluetooth devices, no BSODs and there are offline versions available.

As far as ads are concerned, this is what mine roughly looks like -

Not exactly what I would call "riddled with ads", the 360 dashboard has more of them. Considering the fact that its free and provides good functionality I can put up with that.

If you click the 'local' button at the top of the program, it goes into offline mode. If it doesn't work, just get the latest local mode files from here, and then you should be able to use the drivers offline with no issues (and no ads).

Does the bluetooth have something to do with it? My computer doesn't have bluetooth at all so I always used it with USB. Only real problem I had was that the controller would turn on my PS3 whenever I disconnected it.

I've never had any problems with it. Although this contacting servers in China thing does sound suspicious.

it will sometimes bsod if you disconnect it wrong, but that's a well documented issue.

it's just ads to pay for the silly ms w7 cert. totally harmless.

Excellent thank you.

Yep I have been using a really old version and have had none of the issues the OP has. I use my ps3 controller for all games that support the 360 one. The dpad alone makes it worth the hassle of clicking enable every time I plug the ps3 controller in.

THIS!

Also the Xbox controller doesn't fit me as well as the DS3, specifically on the analog sticks. I find my thumbs centering on the north edge of the sticks for precise control, putting extra pressure when clicking in to run for Borderlands 2. And after awhile my thumbs hurt. A lot.

MotionJoy was a hassle to use and just wasn't worth it for me. Plus it can't be good for the DS3's battery to constantly be charging. I eventually just bought a wired 360 controller.

Yeah I just checked and I'm not getting any popups either. I just loaded the configuration tool and refreshed it several times; no popups.

This is probably the explanation. I bet you got it from a dodgy site that added some malware into it.

I'm not a FB junky, but this deserves a "like".

I'll have to try it out.

Also, I use USB as well, with a USB extender for comfy couch gaming from the TV 8 feet to the recliner. In other words, no BlueTooth on mine either, as that may be a culprit for some people.

Agreed with OP, except for that I couldn't even get it to work at all when I tried it. Fucking aggravating. The instructions are very simple, and in previous jobs I've actually WRITTEN windows drivers for a living. So it's not like I don't know what I'm doing. Fucking thing just doesn't work

Yes, but Aeana: Is it still going to throw pop-ups, phone to China, and the other stuff?

Works fine for me, but I'm surprised no one has stripped the drivers and put them into a usable UI.

It's not the driver that's generating the pop-ups, it's DS3_Tool. Which is a piece of shit. Usually when I first launch it, I get some page about learning Chinese or someshit.

The only time I've had it blue screen is when you plug in the controller after having plugged in a new USB device. If I leave the controller plugged in while it reboots, it's fine and won't bluescreen again as long as I don't connect any new hardware.

I don't think it's spyware, but it is pretty shoddy and I'd like to see something replace it. And I play too much 2d stuff to use a 360 controller--the DS3's d-pad is far far superior to the 360's.

Works fine for me. But it does override your bluetooth drivers, but which might be a problem if you're using some non-standard bluetooth stuff (my logitech bluetooth kb+mouse freaked out once). The solution is to get one of those $3 bluetooth dongles off ebay or dealextreme and let it use that.

My brother has a lot of trouble with this software on Windows 7.

I still use Vista 64-bit and have really never had an issue. As far as ads or the program "talking to China" I guess I'm just not worried about those things.

I find this hard to believe, as I've spent many an hour searching for alternatives to the malware that is MIJ, and can't find anything. But I'd love to hear more if this is true.

They were, but they tend to blue screen win 7 x64 often. They DO work though.

I don't think anybody really loves motioninjoy.

But it works, including offline and I can't say I've ever really had a problem. What else are we going to use?
