Graphics looked great, the gameplay looked like nothing special. So yeah it's Killzone I guess.

I wish they would go back to a war torn industrial setting like KZ2. I don't want a shiny sparkling city.

Vektans and Helghast living side by side in a futuristic city divided by a wall?

Ruh-roh!

Joking aside, I love the concept, and the game looks amazing. Always had a soft spot for Killzone, although the story/characters have never been very good outside of the cool villains. Let's hope they finally do one that really nails all aspects.

Here's a question, what do you guys think about DriveClub? Yeah it looks great, but is it not really anything we haven't already played before from a gameplay perspective? Or what happens when they inevitably announce GT6? The same thing. How come I don't see nearly as many people complaining about no gameplay advances there?

Honestly doubt we are going to see any game this gen that has gameplay that wasn't possible on PS3. Gameplay is such a core concept that it's not really restricted so much by a consoles power. All the new consoles will do is make the gameplay you already know and love bigger and better, which it is certainly doing here for Killzone.

If you are bored by the demo or the thought of another Killzone you probably just aren't an FPS fan, or perhaps more specifically a Killzone fan. And that's fine, though I do think several people have grossly overexaggerated how guided and scripted the gameplay is in this franchise - aside from on-rail segments like the rope thing, but that doesn't make up any considerable portion of the game except in KZ3's case (which wasn't well received in that regard at all). KZ2 and KZ3 both had plenty of somewhat large levels to explore that offered dynamic battles.

If you pay attention you notice a big wall with the other side looking drastically different. I'm guessing a significant part of the game will take place in the other side as well.

The only Killzone concept I'd jump on at this point would be one that focuses on the shadow marshals. You know, sci-fi stealth killing, nice cloakey fashion sense. etc.

War stuff... I burp up a bit just thinking about another war game.

So much negativity in this thread. It looked graphically incredible, and gameplay wise is very much just a linear shooter with set pieces in the mix, but that's all you need for a fun single player campaign. The soundtrack, especially in the beginning was incredible. Love the art style as with the previous games. Just need a good multiplayer component, akin to KZ2 and it'll be a solid launch title.

I played BF3's campaign which was a linear shooter with set pieces and couldn't help thinking how stupid it was. Blops2 campaign I couldn't get halfway through.

This new gen I was hoping to play the first 20 minutes of Saving Private Ryan. That shit is crazy and real. It punches you in the guts.

Every game has those heavily scripted moments though, even open world games. Just my opinion, but I really doubt GG is all of a sudden going to redesign the Killzone franchise into a corridor shooter.

All of a sudden? But that's how the last couple were.

my reputation is Shadowruined
By the way, I'm still sort of against adding a Helghast perspective to the single player, but the image they have on their website definitely gives the impression they are going to add the long asked for fan request.

I'm hoping this is an indication that the desingers/artists are going for an eye pleasing red vs blue color scheme for multiplayer.

You're right. Skybox was the wrong term. It's technically incorrect.

But I'm still not impressed by the scale. The scale does basically nothing for me, because it's not really anything new. Games have had huge vistas before.

Yet I'm not saying said Vista looks bad. Not at all. Shadow Fall looks incredible. The vista looks good because of the art direction and the processing effects used, not necessarily because it's big or because of scale (for me, anyway). I was just as impressed by the clean IQ and gorgeous detail once he landed on the surface.

Yeah, I hear that. It will be too bad if KZ4 doesn't open up it's gameplay and actually use the environment's they're building. The precedent wasn't good in KZ3 though - much more closed - so here's hoping they got some of that feedback.

I feel like people are gonna shit a brick about 30fps - I'm not surprised and am happy to have 1080p, but I still feel like people are gonna shit.

Games shown like this look astonishing. Given that the 8GB DDR5 thing seems quite recent, I wonder if these launch window games were made with 4GB in mind and that how the next games to be made with final hardware in mind can look.

The core of the FPS will always be the same. I play these games for their stunning production values, fun gunplay and multiplayer. If I want something deeper and more thoughtful I'll play an RPG or decent action game. I think your expectations are set too high, especially for a launch title.

Also wow at this in 1080p with that IQ....

@KillzoneDotCom Are we gonna be getting sympathy for the Helghast at last? The embittered terrorist angle looks ripe for it!

@JimSterling Without going into too much detail - the lines between good and evil are definitely blurring in this one.

Yessss, hopefully we get to play as the Helghast too :D

Have you played the last two? Yes there are corridor-type moments to connect everything together, but most the game throws you in an area about the size of your typical COD map and allows you to play out the battle however you want.

Yes, I have - and the corridor shooter term doesn't mean literal corridors, it's a style of game that pushes you forward, forward, forward without any real and meaningful way to have a truly open battlefield. Just rooms on rooms, no matter what's in the background. While KZ2 and 3 were not IN corridors (for much of the game at least) it still had that design. Hoping to see more open battlefields, truly open battlefields with real options.

So, can someone explain to me why this is running at 30FPS vs 60FPS if it's superior to PC? No this isn't a joke. I'm going to be getting a PS4, and am really excited. While I admit I am a PC gamer, I'm not set on: PC being better than console. That's silly. Truth be told, I've been a console gamer a lot longer than I was on PC.

BUT - I'm curious why, with 8gb of Ram, and supposedly a better GPU/CPU architecture - it can't be run at 60 FPS at 1080, when high end PCs can.

Or was this the case with the last gen? Meaning, will high end PCs only be able to run this at 30 FPS initially, then later on in the console cycle with more releases, be able to surpass that? I wasn't PC gaming during the last gen, I got a 360 and PS3 on launch date and paid no attention to PC.

GG are kings of post processing effects, if you look at the real screenshots, the buildings are actually pretty basic and low poly, then in the distance theyre just a skybox, i was expecting more in the way of actual 3d detail in next gen.

I think they did the amount necessary for the task. No point wasting resources and time on anything more than would be noticeable. For a start, in the game you won't get a hyper zoomed 4k pixel peeping view of those distant buildings, so anything more is pointless.

Awesome. They really needed to mix it up and show that there's more to Killzone than just military dudebro grunts. I'd love to play as an intelligent, ruthless but sympathetic Helghast agent.

It's so depressing how much freakin' lore they had detailed on the Killzone 2 website, then the game came out and it never touched on any of that.

By the sounds of it, 8GB RAM is a very recent decision. This game/demo was probably locked off while the target was still 4GB.

That's not how ropes work!

Indeed, that looks incorrect.

This is the most surprising thing. It's almost like the Berlin wall situation. Given that they are wearing masks, it may not be a predecessor to all KZ games (meaning a precursor to the mass exodus). It almost comes off as a modern day "terrorism" by violating some form ceasefire.

Games shown like this look astonishing. Given that the 8GB DDR5 thing seems quite recent, I wonder if these launch window games were made with 4GB in mind and that how the next games to be made with final hardware in mind can look.

This is what I am thinking as well. Not only is it pre-alpha but given the level of playability for such a specific event, it would be based on an older code made to run off of system specs prior to the announcement. And I only say this because one of ND dev twitted in a fashion where even he was surprised by the announcement.

I know that when people are saying corridor shooter they don't mean literal corridors, but it still does not describe Killzone 2 or 3. My point still holds true, you are thrown into a COD size map and can approach it from many different angles with the battle playing out differently each time.

Guerrilla Games described it best in one of their KZ2 or KZ3 interviews, a series of mini-sandboxes. If you want to include that in your definition or pushing the game forward and forward (which is usually how one progresses through a game, right? forward?) then ok.

I need to see this in person.

All the ground portions look no different from the highest quality PS3 games like the past Killzone and Uncharted titles. This I'm sure is a combination of launch title and crappy youtube video. The flying segments were where I could tell that this is no PS3 game.

I think one thing that help Killzone distinguish itself from the "corridor" mold is the way they handle the AI its not scripted like an AI in Cod or BF would be but completely dynamic. I was replaying Killzone 3 yesterday and their was this part in the snowy area where there was the big open area. I was keeping a very strong distance from the Helghast and shooting from a far and instead of just staying back and shooting at me one of the Helghast actually broke my line of site moved up to where I was and melee'd me. This is one of the reasons why the gun fights in Killzone are so dynamic to me and don't necessarily feel scripted.

I dont think the stuff in the distance is a skybox anyway. The wall sorrounding the city are definitely geometry and i reckon the mountains are as well.

Open battlefields in a futuristic or current time modern infantry warfare game would be unrealistic. Man to man urban battle is room-to-room, house-to-house fight, scraping for meters of enemy territory. You have a primary objective, a secondary objective, optimal routes depending on the intelligence gathered and secondary alternatives if shit hit the fan.

I was thinking about this also. On one side I think gg is very in the know with. What sony does hardware wise pertaining to specs. But then again there was a quote somewhere that said sony was going to match the size of microsofts ram. Not sure how valid that was though.think 3D could be taking performance down if it will be present. Either way the game looks incred. I really didn't get the sense of how great it looked until I saw screens, instead of bad video quality of the new killzone. Wonder why sony did not invest in scaler anti aliasing and 3d companion chips to reduce processing tax.

Aw Damn it, i just saw in the title that its 30fps. The nonsense that the ps4 would run 1080p @ 60fps didn't last long. I knew they'd just use the extra horsepower on something else.

I would gladly take the extra 30fps over any particle effects / textures. in fact, if i had to play in 720p just to get the 60fps I would.

Lol no.

They're not going to skip showing the system at their biggest conference of the year to end up revealing it with Jimmy Fallon lol.

So the console will be hidden somewhere while they play? That will be a bit odd.

EDIT - yeah, some typ of prototype/dev-kit maybe.

I'm sure someone has likely mentioned it within the last few pages, but did you guys notice the structure damage on the wall after he throws the grenade down the stairs?

It wasn't anything overdramatic, but neat detail none-the-less.

Man. That Vektan waterfall/plastic-wrapped skyscraper....

Guerrilla still has set and industrial design chops that are just completely off the charts.
