CVG Rumor: Microsoft to reveal EA partnership at Next Xbox event

Posted this in the wrong thread...meant to post it here:

I wonder if MS is going to let publishers distribute their games on Durango like they do on PC, via their own platforms. In other words, I wonder if where all of this is going is that Origin, UPlay and (the bombshell) Steam, will all be operable on 720. If the 720 is a digital platform only and MS is getting out of the distribution side and just takes a licensing fee to put out the games on 720 however the publisher chooses, what effect would this have?

Something tells me this is the path that Microsoft might be taking with their next console. I'm pretty excited to find out.

EDIT: Changed 360 to 720.

BF4 exclusive DLC announcement along with trailer of BF4 running on PC that looks better than any next gen game.

Would be really smart of MS

That would be absolutely dreadful if there wasn't a single unified store/system. But you might be on to something.

I kind of expected them to do this, not just EA either but Bethesda and 2K. I think they will secure one exclusive from each company and a tonne of DLC.

Not to shit all over the thread, but I just looked at my game collection, and realized, I just don't really give a damn about EA.

Yeah I guess some people will get off on the dick waving that will ensue on any type of exclusive partnership. But I think the last EA game I purchased was Madden '09... Or maybe Mass Effect 2 or 3.

I'm not a sports gamer anymore, so I'm trying to find something in the EA catalog that I would miss next gen if they weren't around on my platform of choice. Something that I just couldn't live without or find something comparable from another studio. Hell, I'm coming up empty.

They could announce Leapfrog LearningPad exclusivity tomorrow and I'd give give a fuck about it as much as I do today.

How terribly feeble it is to sport a fake tattoo for the sole purpose of marketing. It's the opposite of cool.

Is it rather like passing off a completely speculative article in the guise of journalism, for the sole purposes of hits?

Have they been wrong before?

Everyone is wrong at some point, it's the cost of being human.

Why not running on a 720?

It would be awesome if so, I just wouldn't be surprised is all I am saying.

Bruce is furthering the narrative that thuway started... MS is going to show 'better than next-gen' graphics at E3 to beat PS4 then downgrade before launch.

I'm mostly basing this off of how many PS4 games were running on non-final hardware. If 720 has been in a flux as well I think we can assume most these games haven't moved over to final kits until just recently.

I haven't read this thread but when I read about next gen EA/MS exclusive deals I cannot help but assume this has nothing to do with a racer or the Battlefield series and everything to do with Respawn Studios CoD killer.

My speculation:

- Both the Xbox 720 and PS4 will have Battlefield 4.
- The new IP from Respawn will have an 720 exclusive dlc for a time period.

Having lost Bungie I believe Microsoft want another platform exclusive FPS outside of Halo.

Fixed...???

Or EA reveals their IP on microsoft E3 conference.

Timed Exclusive DLC content.

Microsoft will show off the dudebro shooters at their conference to make up for the weaker hardware. And try to buy their way into your pockets with timed-exclusive DLC from EA.

I think that would be a big show of confidence if they could this, and it would be a jibe at Sony.
That would be pretty much more than a "jibe" it would be Knack vs BF4

Ohh well in that case not touching that one carry on.

I think unless they come out showing the on the actual box there is going to be room for speculation which is the same for all the PS4 games that were shown.
No way to remove doubt until the specs have been finalized for sure.
And I think developers and publishers are straddling the line between breaking NDAs with MS and Sony and wanting to be honest about the actual system the games are being shown on, be it comparable pc specs or dev kits.

Microsoft and EA would like to announce an amazing partnership... Welcome to your always-on, digitally protected $69.99 no-used games future! Enjoy the micro-transactions!

It's plausible they could secure the big franchises as timed exclusive. Each of them will be starting next gen with zero fanbase. What's massive now may not be next gen etc.

It is incredibly unlikely but still success isn't guaranteed for no series at the start of a new gen.

It seems like CVG had this speculation article ready to be published today but they couldn't know about the surprise conference EA did yeasterday where they announced full PS4 support.
If there's a deal it's just for DLC but honestly this article is just speculation on why EA wasn't at the Sony conference, it's pretty clear.

If it's BF4 or/and Respawn's new game DLC releated then i think Activision will not renew the parthership with MS for the CoD DLCs.

Yeah thats basically what I am saying.

I have a real love-hate relationship with all of the speculation/conjecture/hyperbole by GAF. What really happens will be fun, but I think I am rooting for third-party exclusives for all consoles just for the meltdowns

EA announces Respawn game exclusive for Durango; Activision counters with keeping Destiny next-gen exclusive to PS4; but in next breath COD with exclusive content to Durango; Ubisoft pulls Rayman Legends from Wii U and makes it a Vita exclusive; announces Watch_Dogs for PS4 and ACIV for Durango; then we get GTAV for Wii U exclusive announcement

I find it weird that there are still 3rd party exclusives especially with all the doom and gloom the financial sector is pumping out about consoles and that everyone is going to mobile platforms.

Must be some pretty big money hats MS is giving to EA to offset a portion of the market.

Edit: I'm specifically talking about large publishers like EA, Activision. I can understand why indies would be exclusive based on costs to port from one system to another.

Or there just aren't any third party exclusives and this is all bullshit. You know, the by far most likely scenario.

I will never like EA, I wish DICE could just break free of EA and self publish.

I agree DiCE and Bioware really needs to break free, they can do so much more without EA controlling their every move and cutting corners just for more profit.

Are people really celebrating about MS and EA teaming up?...

stop this planet I want off.

I don't know, are they? If it's anything it's probably so exclusive DLC for Respawn's new game, i don't see EA doing any exclusive games for anyone.

If it meant that they wouldn't be wasting time demoing a new COD game every E3 at their press conferences i wouldn't mind that at all.

Maybe Microsoft bought DiCE and Bioware from EA and you will get your wish. :)

it's been mentioned; but since the bigger publishers are actually in favor of the anti-used games policies; could exclusive deals be part of the return on including that feature in the Durango?
