Could an Arcanum kickstarter be next ?

Activision still owns the IP IIRC.

Unless you mean like a spiritual successor.

If they don't do it, they can licence it I guess.

I hope

EDIT : yes, they do :

Would probably back it, although I feel that out of Planescape: Torment, BG and Arcanum the latter game is the weakest. The setting is awesome though.

Well, I prefer it than BG, but t's just because it feels less "generic" to me. Setting and mechanic wise.

But hey, opinions. Still, it would be amazing :(

You better not go to RPG Codex and say that.

id back it but i wouldnt go all in like the other Kickstarters. The setting and choice/consequence stuff is great. Everything else is subpar at best.

Maybe Tim Cook would want to do it after eternity. I think it is more likely that something will be done with elements of Arcanum like the character sheet or magik/tech alignment but not even something in full spiritual successor territory.

Combat. If your game is going to have a ton of it the combat better be good. In Arcanum the combat is awful.

I may admit I got out the cheap way : necro with the level 1 skill doing a few dammages. Got mana gear and spammed the skill to kill anything. at a certain level, you can kill any boss in seconds.

(But even with its flaws, I loved it.)

The easter eggs were fabulous, gear was nice, lore, backstory, quests with multiple endings... even the twists.

i admit i am unfairly biased towards the game. To me Arcanum was a huge disappointment. i had extremely high hopes for the game and the game didnt deliver to me. i stuck with it for a very long time.. i quit shortly after the tree place.. and chasing something that wasnt there for dozens of hours led me to resent the game even more.

ill still back a KS of Arcanum though. The setting is awesome. i just wont give every dollar i have like i did with PE.

I would back something like a spiritual successor with the same type of setting. I would have to imagine the combat would be much better than the original.

Man, those guys don't release project updates very often. I really hope it's not (still) stuck in development hell.

They're releasing a combat video next week! Most updates are on the forums and the radio private forum. That's for another topic tho'.

As for Arcanum... I'd love a sequel, or a spiritual sequel, as I feel there was a lot of promise to that setting and its central ideas, which I didn't feel the main plot completely capitalized on with the weird turns it took near the end.

I want someone to do a chrono trigger type of game kickstarter with RPG dialog elements like a torment game ..that would be an interesting fusion

I would have preferred Syndicate personally.

BTW anyone knows what is going on with that Paradox game that was meant to be like Syndicate?
