So the earliest we'll see this is probably 2015, although, if it does make an appearance at E3 I guess that could change.

VG Leaks was on spot with the next-gen hardware leaks, how accurate are they with software/game rumors?

FF13, 13-2, LR are multiplatform, that really bugs me that they're shutting out xbox owners.

But I plan on getting a PS4 anyway so whatever

Couldn't give a shit if it was exclusive and made solely by Square but with Sony's involvement, colour me interested.

Megaton if true.

Versus already has huge appeal.

Next-gen gloss and numbered branding will make it stand out even more.

BELIEVE!

ok even IF this is true, what might Sony be helping with? Square Enix have Luminous engine, they have the RPG talent (sony has none)....

VGLeaks is solid when it comes to hardware rumors, but their last game rumor was that AC4 wasn't coming to next-gen consoles. And that was quickly busted a day or so after they posted it.

wow Sony can't develop The Last Guardian, but they are helping with Final Fantasy. Ok lol

maybe it's the guys who worked on bleach.

I really have no sense of Final Fantasy's importance anymore.

it does well in japan. it does about as well as it usually has in the us, but that's going off a 4-year old title. a ps4-exclusive ffxv would probably sell about 2m in japan and the us like they usually do.

like zelda, it was a bigger franchise back in the day when 4-6m sellers meant something.

Sony Japan Studios can't finish The Last Guardian but the can help FF XV? ....OK.

Dosn't sound that plausible but who knows.

Could explain the lack of retail PS3 output.

And I said before in the other thread Why would Square have Sony help out making assets rather then out source it to China / India like a lot of people do now? It would probably be cheaper for all involved.

I could see FF going 3DS exclusive before it goes exclusive to one console again.

It does say "and other tasks."

And mainline FF shoots for bleeding edge. It's DQ that can hop to whatever console is hot at the time.

And what is Microsoft doing?

The name change makes sense, given that ffxiii came out 4 years ago now, and it isn't really related to the versus project. The move to next gen is also plausible.

The exclusivity seems like a bit of a pipe dream tbh. With all the years (and money) spent developing ffversus they're just going to forfeit half the sales by going exclusive?
If they went next-gen only anyway, they'd lose millions of sales. Not sure why you think that's more believable than the other bit.

This is really big news if true. I really hope the game doesn't suffer any story or gameplay wise with this big change.

Megaton news to be made official at E3 I suppose.

Please be excited.

Look for me on the local news, I'll be the guy arrested for trying to burn down a Nintendo exec's house.
Both Versus and The Last Guardian on PS4. Hilarious if true.

One would hope Versus/FF15 is at least 2014, because fucking hell if it wasn't with Sony studios helping out.

I also remember Kagari's rumbles of both sides taking "exclusives" fucking seriously this go around. This would certainly qualify as that.

Actually Sony is co-developing the game with Square-Enix, therefore, this game will be exclusive on PS4. Square renamed Versus to FF15 in the middle of this process. Sony’s studios are helping SE with FF15 assets among other tasks.

god damnit YES. HOLD ME.

The thing SE struggled with most is the transition to HD. I'm guessing Sony will help on the tech, assets and visual development side of things. But who knows.

this is one game franchise I could honestly see die and I would be happy. I know many love the FF games, I just am not excited by them...so this rumored leak does little to get me excited about the PS4. Just a game I wont play on the PS4.

Exclusive PS3 game becomes exclusive PS4 game. How exciting!
Nice to see Sony lending an assist to this game's development after it's made so much progress over the past six years.

And goes from being a side story to the mainline series to the next full fledged sequel on said franchise... exciting indeed.

Wonder which studios.

Sony Santa Monica to help them develop those wonderful those QTEs from FFXIII-2.
Polyphony Digital to help them model interiors of futuristic limos.
Team ICO to help them render Chocobo feathers.
Sucker Punch to help improve Thunder magic effects.

I call BS.

But have VGleaks done leaks for games before that turned out to be true?

Maybe it's not just assets but programming/designing stuff that's being shared?
This might explain the weird SE segment during the ps4 unveil. Still pretty weird.

Maybe worth noting that VGleaks also posted this stuff that turned out to be way false: http://www.vgleaks.com/assassins-creed-iv-black-flag-presented-ubisoft-still-holds-an-ac-surprise/

But that’s not all. As we titled, Ubi holds a surprise regarding the franchise. We can confirm there’s another game in development that has not been announced. Weird thing is ‘Black Flag” not coming for Playstation 4 and Durango (for the moment) so… could we see that rumored WWII scenario coming true at next gen systems this year? Nah, too hasty. Bet for a Vita one in 2013.

Like two days later, Ubisoft announced that Black Flag was coming to next-gen consoles.

Rubbish. If sony has the financial means to do this why can't Microsoft just do the same with GTA, COD, etc etc? The time of third party exclusives is over.

.

It is now Free 2 Play. You start with Noctis and one sword. You can buy his peers and others swords. Always on-line DRM.

But it is a Sony exclusive!

It's sad to see how far Final Fantasy has fallen when compared to Dragon Quest. It's not even a system seller anymore.

They got the AC4 rumor wrong. They said it was not coming to next gen.

Why would Sony let square use there talent like this and why would Square cut off a giant chunk of the market so early in a generation?

Maybe Square REALLY need the help making HD towns?

How about they keep making them and you just don't buy them. That way, you know, fans of the series can still enjoy them.

Theoretically, of course.

So what year can we expect this?

Would SE risk releasing such a game near a new console launch? Surely the numbers wouldn't be there?
