Every time 343 releases a new gametype, they should put out a title update that puts it as one of the default gametypes in the section. It's kind of annoying with so many gametypes that you have to download.

They're still making it and don't have the final settings for it probably.

I'm expecting radar, set loadouts, static weapon spawns, and AA's.

Basically, it's gonna be classic reach.

Set loadouts but which AA's will they use? It makes me think they might go the Throwdown route and make AA's part of the personal ordnance.

I'd be fine with that too. But I think radar will definitely be in.

No radar is probably the most off putting thing about throw down to other people.

Sadly that's true.

I'm assuming the starting weapons will be properly balanced by then as well. This will probably be the standard slayer gametype the game should have launched with.

Amen.

Biggest fear about halo 5 is even if 343 acknowledges custom loadouts and stuff as a mistake, that its one of those things they can't back out of now.

Sound radar is a perfectly fine compromise that could be implemented.

Also, I wonder how a blueprint minimap would look instead of the radar. Something very simple and easy on the eyes, similar to the that in CoD just not as detailed/cluttered. I think we're only a step away before we see that in a Halo game anyway..

Amen.

I'd like for them to keep all that stuff and go crazy with it, but just for Custom Games. If MM is to stay the same, then you can have an Action Sack playlist with gametypes using the fully-realized AA's that don't have to be balanced for competitive MP (ie: Thrusters in Campaign vs MP)

I've been playing around with custom gametype settings and I gotta say, Throwdown PODs, 110% damage, BR/LR loadouts from Doubles Pro, and normal radar is really, really good. Now with the X's and no instant respawn.. This is what I was expecting from Halo 4. We need a playlist like this.

Also, Forge Island; HUGE fucking skybox!! I just can't get over how big it is. It has to be bigger than Forge World. I'm glad they decided to give us a little room to move around.

The more and more I think about it, the more I like the idea of Halo splitting into two series: Halo Battlefield and Halo Arena. Keep the COD and BTB junk in Halo Battlefield, and make Halo Arena a pure competitive arena shooter.
I could get behind that. Even running the Arena style titles as spin-off/secondary titles like ODST/Reach would be fine with me. Hell, I'd be happy with MM/customs/forge only titles. Leave campaign/FF/SpOps to the big titles with all the warthogs and jetpacks and exp unlock systems. It would be nice to have more resources allocated to balance and depth of settings for customs. Even as an arcade title, I think it would do well enough. And as for sapping population, integrating the games so cross-linking is easy would help with that. I mean, as it is Halo 4 was 2 discs. Wouldn't be a stretch to make them run separately and charge separately too.

Gotta blame someone for Halo 4, and Frankie seems to be the man in charge. Responsibility has got to fall on someone. Frankie's a good guy though, but it probably sounds personal when we hate on the franchise direction.

Agree. 343i is very corporate and I think the delegation and outsourcing really hurt them. It's really hard to have a pulse on EVERYTHING. They said I won't avoid Halo 5 just because 343 is going it although if Kevin Franklin is anywhere near MP then I probably avoid it. I think Frankie gets Halo, just listening to KF talk and seeing bravo cringe when KF speaks says a lot to me.

They don't have to back out. This is the most frustrating part. All they need to a specific ranked playlist. I don't know what it is that hard for them to digest it. Let them execute whatever their vision is in the main or social playlists. Just give the fans a real competitive playlist that you promote as the place where the best players play.

What is killing throwdown is its an after thought. Half the people going in there don't know what it is. I still think objectives being in there hurt it.

Its not a bad idea but they can do this with playlists. The online population isnt strong enough to support 2 proper releases now. In addition their next big release also requires a console purchase.

Halo 5 has to be the best Halo of all time are they dead. Gears is not going to carry Nextbox. People are already sick of it.

As long as MS doesn't **** up Forza, I'm buying the Next Xbox.

343 really messed up with Halo 4, not sure how many Halo fans are going to be willing to buy and pay $500 for a new Halo game, after the last one that came out left everyone upset and angry.

I still think 343 has a chance to redeem themselves. If they can make Halo 5 go back to what made Halo 1-3 so great, they can earn back the fans' trust. A stellar campaign, firefight, forge AND a map MAKER, and Spartan Ops+ in conjunction with a good MP can probably win back a lot of people.

Your kidding yourself if you think there are suddenly gonna do a 180 turn the other way and switch directives.

One way to read the feedback (read:low population; which is definitely gonna affect their long tail sales) is that the game is STILL not accessible enough. The goal is clear and so maybe they may choose different ways of executing it.

Not by a huge amount though, they already have tons of already paid sales due to the LE and Season Pass

You know what I find crazy about all this?

Halo 4 has the best core gameplay since Halo 2, but is the worst overall experience in the franchise. I don't even..

Here is a video

Will make a gif of the chest harpooning soon.

EDIT: Done

Woah, you can harpoon people with the flag? This is definitely the idea I had for Halo when Oddball throwing was announced. :O That is super cool.

Yeah this is also the thing that annoys me the most, they could if they would lose all their ego alter the game to amazing gametypes.

And just fix some stuff like X's and some gun stuff like spread and flinching.

Here's a scary thought I just had.

I wonder how 343 is taking the low population. :/

"Wow, the population is really low, we did a bad job pleasing Halo fans and they all left, we need to fix Halo."

or

"Wow, the population is really low, we didn't make the game easy and accessible enough for casuals, Halo fans stayed but casual gamers didn't, we need to make Halo more accessible."

Would have been nice for someone to ask them about their low population during the gdc panel.

Finally caught up with Spartacus. That latest episode..... :(

The 1st is probably what Bravo and Frankie think. The latter is probably what Josh Holmes, Kiki, Jessica, and Kevin Franklin think.

I never said they'd completely change their design philosophy... just alter the things that need fixing.

AMEN SOUL SISTER! Ive been saying that since launch.

I think there is some disagreement internally about what is going on. Its no coincidence Bravo and new people are being brought on. I know Frankie is knee deep in Halo 5. I am hoping there is a new MP lead working with him while Kevin Franklin and crew are supporting Halo 4.

Haven't talked to the others but I don't think I would include Jessica on that list, a person who loved Halo 2 and played ChromeHounds can't be a bad person or hate competitive play...especially if you ran a squad in CH.

Forza 4 is the best in the series. I don't see Turn 10 messing up (unless they get rid of lobbies again). Horizon introduced night racing and I'm willing to bet rain/snow will be the selling point for Forza 5.

How do you know what they think? I've barely heard Jessica or Kiki comment on Halo 4 or their specific vision for the franchise beyond PR stuff.

Such a great series. I'm still trying to complete every event in Forza 4. I have faith in Turn10 though. I think they'll introduce weather, night, and even rally racing given how well it was done in Horizon Rally.

Can't wait to see what they're able to do with new hardware.

IDK, just took a wild guess on how they've spoken about the game. Bravo better do some good shit with Halo 5

I wonder how Halo would play with the new "X Gimmick" like AAs, Equipment, etc. being Active Powerups. Rather than being picked up and "stored" for use like Equipment or spawning with them like AAs, they provide an instant effect with varying duration. They're essentially grouped into a single "powerup" that can be picked up on the map. After picking up said powerup, you can select which one you want to activate with the D-Pad. A large letter will show up above your Spartan on everyone's HUD to compensate.

S-Tier Powerups (30 Second Duration)
Overshield
Active Camo
Speed Boost
Damage Boost

A-Tier Powerups (20 Second Duration)
Team Bubble (Bubble Shield that will shield everyone but you)
Team Regen (Regen Field that will heal everyone but you, vehicles included)
Auto Turret (Halo 3 version, two orbit you. High damage but low detection rate)
Hi-Jump (Projects a small, spherical trait zone where jump height is doubled)

B-Tier Powerups (10 Seconds)
Power Drain (EMPs and saps shields. Also pulls people in like a gravity field)
Repulsor (Pushes vehicles, weapons, players etc. away. Good defense against Melee weapons)
Autosentry (Halo 4 version orbits you. Moderate damage, but high rate of fire, headshot capability, and better enemy detection)
Deceiver (Sends out holograms in random directions every two seconds)

C-Tier Powerups (5 Seconds)
Rumble Bubble (Only shields you)
Rumble Regen (Only heals you or your vehicle)
Universal Ammo Restore (Restores up to 50% of your weapon's max ammo over the course of 5 seconds if it uses bullets, slugs, etc. Also enacts "bottomless clip" functionality in that you don't have to reload, but it will eat into your regenerated ammo count)
Universal Ammo Recharge (Same as above, but with battery-operated weapons)

I don't know how to feel about the next Halo at this point. Yea the population is low at this point, but it's still in the top 5 most played.

I seriously want to believe that 343 has recognized that if 11 million+ people have played this game, and it peaks and less than 50k on weekends, something is wrong somewhere. Whether it's fatigue, or people prefer the original gameplay. I don't know.

Honestly my small glimmer of hope for the next halo is that they hired Bravo, Quinn, and the new guy for ranks. Yea HUGE changes can't be made for Halo 4, but anything can happen in the next game. If you told me in 2007 that Halo 4 would have perks and custom classes I probably would have laughed.

We'll find out eventually I guess.

It doesn't seem like they will go back to the roots of Halo in the future going from what they say each time. It's going to be hard to get the next xbox because Halo was the main reason why i got one along with gears but even Gears is ruined.
