Having Iwata more in direct control of NOA instead of needing to pass through multiple layers of brass-obsfucation will only be good for us. Having NOJ and NOA more in sync and globalized will be excellent!

I want this to be a good thing, if it means that Nintendo Japan is actively taking interest in securing the North American market.

But man, if things don't start looking up for Nintendo, Iwata's is getting set up for an utterly insane fall from grace. There'll barely be anything left of him.

I'm clearly missing something, how is this good news?
I have no idea, but people seem to be taking it as such. If anything it strikes me as part of an eventual succession strategy. I.e. Iwata -> Kimishima. But I may be misreading the undertone. EDIT: I guess I was, and this is more a shuffling away of an inept Kimishima.

So this image was kind of prophetic after all...

I agree with this move. Unifying Nintendo as a worldwide company can only come from a decision as drastic as this.

Hopefully this will mean a stronger focus on Nintendo fans with business strategies that create excitement like it does for those in Japan.

So, to sum it up:

Tatsumi Kimishima
- NOA CEO
+ NCL general manager of Corporate Analysis and Administration
+ NCL general manager of the General Affairs Division

Yoshihiro Mori
- NCL general manager of Corporate Analysis and Administration
(Retires)

Masaharu Matsumoto
- NCL general manager of the General Affairs Division
(Retires)

Satoru Iwata
+ NOA CEO

Regginator
(No change)

Although the Wii had shit all for releases in North America, there was a good amount of un-localized software coming out every month in Japan for a good while, such as Reginleiv, Disaster, and Fatal Frame. So maybe less software drought?

Probably wishful thinking.

Just one more additional position for Iwata to resign from in the next 12 months. No big deal.

He's clearly going to take on all key roles in Nintendo so that when he's forced to resign by GAF next year the company is ripe for a hostile takeover by Evilore.

Hopefully Iwata will have enough influence that he will be able to buy or open some more American studios for Nintendo.

Best case scenario is that there's less disruption in the process of communication and implementation of business strategies from NCL to NOA.

NoA's seen as lethargic and unwilling to take risks of Japanese software, so people are assuming that with Iwata's finger directly on the pulse, Nintendo will be that much more proactive in pushing software and localizing Japanese content in a timely manner. I'm not sure how much of that will prove true, but it's an interesting experiment, and Nintendo really doesn't have much to lose from the prospect. Reggie's days of being a scapegoat for NoA's failings are over, though. It'll be all be on Iwata and the upper management in Japan if things stay south.

Pretty sure Reggie never was CEO. He was COO. And...still is. No changes.

Tatsumi Kimishima was CEO.

Edit: sorry, I know the OP never said that, that's for the people jumping to conclusions.

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
Ok, trying to see the reality behind this move: superficially, this could seem an attempt to improve Nintendo's business in US, by having Iwata as CEO of both divisions. But this is probably a too superficial analysis of the situation, and I'd like to know other possible layers of this. Thoughts?

WHOA!

I definitely didn't expect this one. I expected him to resign, but hey, if he's going to dominate Nintendo worldwide, I don't really know what else there is to say. Sorry Reggie!
