Got any good inside scoops about the new Xbox lately?

Nope. I'm holding back most of my excitement on this first reveal since I think it will be a pretty tepid affair. I don't see MS showing off any of their exciting exclusives. We will probably just get another walk-through of BF4 of some other section, Some Kinect/OS integration examples and the console design.

I also don't think we will get a confirmation on the 100% online one way or another. If they don't emphatically say no at the reveal its in there and they are just biding their time to put together a smart marketing message around it.

Now E3
We should get some ReSpawn, Fallout, Ryse, PGR/Forza along with impressive enough Kinect stuff to hopefully blow us away.

One thing I'd be interested in finally seeing is MS's approach to XBLA now Sony has gotten a lot of good press from it's approach to indies this time around.

Obviously any devs doing games for the new Xbox can't talk officially yet as the machine hasn't been announced. Creating an interesting situation where it looks like Sony is grabbing all these indie devs and MS is left with nothing.

I can't see MS letting Sony run away with that sector all to itself. So it will be nice to see what they intend to do.

Do you think they will detail the new console hardware and the new kinect hardware or just one and save the other for E3?

I think they're fairly aware of the how the many view as the system as under-powered compared to PS4. I think they'll show at least one game that looks incredible to try to silence the negativity.

Any idea if that EA thing is gonna turn out to be true?

Gold really should become box-centric instead of account centric (as in, if anyone is gold on the box, they're gold too).

I dream with it all the nights. It's hell sadden you to have online and your girlfriend, sister, mom doesn't. They scratch their head on why you have privileges over them on things so trivial.

I'm sure there will be but it won't be any of their big stuff. Maybe PGR, but I think they are mostly relying on 3rd party.
I should note this is 100% conjecture.

Ive heard from one reputable person that its not true but I heard from another guy who has no credible rep say it is.
Ha so take that how you want.

I'm of opposite thought. This is a 60-minute, televised on TV, splash for the mainstream media and the tech press. This is their condensed 60 minute high level pitch on why you want the new Xbox. They will show everything that will catch the eyes of the mainstream media and tech press. You can bet they looked at the reactions of how the PS4 conference didn't have the box, didn't have specific availability details, very few details about apps, and how the 2nd hour of that conference dragged on way too long. They will have some games, but only the ones with the most wow factor. They will show media stuff that will generate headlines. They will basically put their best foot forward.

E3 will be a little bit more core oriented where they will flesh out the entire games lineup and probably talk about some more OS features that aren't necessarily headline worthy.

1hr long.

Hardly prime-time spotlight of the world reveal.
Its going to be pretty run of the mill.

With the supposed rumor of Microsoft creating an app store that won't require people to have a dev kit to develop Windows games, I think that's how they'll compete.

I hadn't thought of this. The event will be broadcast on mainstream television, so I would think they would have to go about presenting everything much differently. And this would definitely have some bearing on what would be shown (I would think).

Nvm on my first statement, well played...

Which is specifically WHY it's got to be everything I said it will be. The press will be the ones disseminating the information to the general public so they need to see headline catching things.

I wonder who Microsoft would bring out to show some games. I think Crytek (Ryse) and probably Bethesda are the most likely to show up.

Who was it that sat down with Tom Hanks? Was that Sony? I could see something like that happening, some cool but random famous person chating about games on TV.

Hey man I hope your right but I don't think that is a sound argument.

I guess this conversation is super inside baseball at this point, but what the heck, theres nothing else to talk about heh.

Its not sound to think they want to show a 60 minute presser that will dazzle the people who are invited there for the express purpose of reporting on the new Xbox? This isn't a reveal that's 2 years ahead of the console launch-- the console is launching in November. This is the start of their marketing for the new Xbox.

And fine, lets say that they are going to do what you suggested:

Who would that conference be for? Would would be excited? Why would they expect to generate any headlines with such a bad press conference?

Yeah, I'd much rather have Remedy be there than Crytek.

The reason I put Crytek is I don't think Microsoft would show the same game again at E3.
Also I think Bethesda shows up if Fallout 4 is already announced. If it hasn't than it would be announced at E3 then.

I think it's the other way around with the two conferences. May 21st they come out and appeal to the mass market, show off the games, whilst E3 they tell us about the system indepth.

You need more then an hour to explain the new OS, Kinect 2, next gen live etc. Whilst games can be shown in 15 min intervals.

I agree with you somewhat but if they are in fact showing games then why did Major Nelson says this in his post about it:

On that day, we’ll share our vision for Xbox, and give you a real taste of the future. Then, 19-days later at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) in Los Angeles, we’ll continue the conversation and showcase our full lineup of blockbuster games.

Besides isn't the E3 conference only 30 minutes longer than this even (1 hour and 30 minutes total)?

Dam. I forgot about the wording of that. Okay I'm thinking they use games to demo thier new features? That way they do both.

It's only 1 hour long? Wtf (Yes I'm LTTP)

Yes, only one hour. It doesn't sound like they're revealing as much as Sony has revealed, which is partly why this thread has not had that much activity. Most don't know what MS' direction will be in the next gen.

There will definitely be more time spent on games at E3, but there will also be games at the May 21st event too-- Major Nelson made a point of that on the podcast. I imagine May 21st will have more of a sizzle reel feel to the games. I'm sure they'll show some stuff in real-time as well but I think at E3 we'll see the longer game demonstrations, and more of them.

Hmm I'm thinking 21st will have a main focus on company vison, console, features etc and then teasers for upcoming games ----> E3.

Sony's conf was about 2 hours, but it certainly didn't feel like it. God I hope MS don't fuck this up. I'm expecting to be either blown away, or horrifically disappointed.

I think the conference is going to serve three main purposes:
1)Announce the next system(duh right? Well thats a big deal because we have next gen games being announced all over that are being developed for both systems but are only being talked about on PS4 and PC. MS needs to be added to that conversation immediately so instead of the 30th quote from Ubisoft about how great the PS4 is to develop for they can start saying "PS4 and Durango will be equal..."

2)Start separating themselves from PS4. MS to me is thinking much differently than Sony with their system and if that is the case they are going to want to establish the contrasts immediately. What are those contrasts? Kinect 2.0 and their OS integration into media services and who knows what else. That is what they are going to reveal and talk about.

3)Show the system. Sony might have announced the PS4 first but we have nothing to attach those grandiose plans to except the Dualshock 4. MS can show a system that is real and will be available before Sony.

The hardcore will be there at E3 and they know that which is where they will show the big guns game wise.

I mean there isn't even a teaser video on their youtube channel for this thing there is just to little "effort" going on from them for me to think this is going to be a big reveal in any way.
