PS.Blog video: Jonathan Blow on The Witness & PS4 development

No joke my most anticipated PS4 game.

If it had Oculus support I would explode.

Coming off of Unfinished Swan and Dear Esther recently these types of first person experiences have become extremely appealing to me. Hopefully we'll see a return to the M.Y.S.T era with higher fidelity graphics and more interaction.

GLORIOUS.

Love how this looks!

No idea how it plays at the moment though and the environment seem to be almost unconnected in some ways so still a bit cautious of how it'll play.

I thought this looked interesting when it was first shown off, but I guess I missed it getting moved to next gen consoles. It'll probably be a long time before I get to play it now.

I still don't understand wtf this game is though.

I'm not completely sure either, but it certainly looks intriguing.

Would I be right in saying that is a bit like 'The Room' on iPad but in an open-world? Anyone?

This sums modern-day FPS up for me. Used to be so much fun discovering hidden rooms etc. It's a crying shame that the first ever FPS games - Wolfenstein 3D and DOOM - have far, far superior level design than any FPS in the last 10-15 years.

Pure money. I want this game so badly. If there's any shot of this being a $20-30 launch title, I'll get this alongside KZ: Shadow Fall, Watch Dogs, maybe Destiny or Diablo III, all Day One (if the latter two actually end up being launch titles).

This game looks fucking beautiful. And this "conversations with creators" is excellent as well. Sony pretty much has my money.

Maze like, find the key/switch game design gave way to half-life style 'narriative fps' design.

The problem is, how do you tell a story in an FPS like game, and keep the player engaged? IMHO, the answer should be in a game like Deus Ex, or other semi-open world level design. Have hub areas connecting multibranched, exploration filled areas.

Very much looking forward to this game. Looks fantastic, atmospheric and fun. One of my most anticipated next gen games so far.

It says so much about Sony that they invited Jonathan Blow on stage during the PS4 reveal, whereas MS push the umpteenth version of Madden and Call of Duty... I want to play games like The Witness. I'd have stopped gaming long ago if MS had its way.

Same day, it seems like the iOS version will be a little later though.
Aw, really? lol I thought it was a timed exclusive, ps4 hype deflated if I can just pick it up in Steam day one. It'll run better on my PC anyway.

Is every puzzle in the game based on connecting points with lines? That seems like it could get boring after a while. I mean I get that the puzzles all have different rules, but still, it feels like it lacks variety.

But then again, there's obviously more than meets the eye, so I'll have to reserve judgement. I'm still getting it day 1 regardless

I'm not quite sold, either. Beautiful open-world is great, but ultimately just a shiny layer on top of what looks like lame line puzzles everywhere.

I'm really impressed; it's open world and yet everything is rendered so perfectly, every little detail looks like it's been created with a lot of attention and care. I also like their open approach to how to tackle the puzzles and whatnot.
20+ hours of amazing visuals and fun puzzles? Sign me up. I'd like to hear more of what we can expect from the game's audio, it seems like the kind of game where the music is really integral to the overall experience. I wonder if this will be a PS4 launch title?
