Media Create Sales: Week 20, 2013 (May 13 - May 19)

There's a small chance it could happen next week since DDP SDOJ is coming out for the 360, while the Wii U gets ???

Revelations?

EDIT: Just realised the Wii U has 3 whole retail releases in June. They'll do nothing, but I actually think that's the highest number since launch. (it also has the digital copy of NSLU)

Shitty numbers but year over year they're not far off for most of them. PS3 and 3ds are down, PSV is up. Wii is even. Wii U was a fetus.

It's not console sellin' season.

There is a limit to where Wii U can go. It will not hit 360 numbers like 1-2k. That's impossible for any system besides a MS system while its alive. It will probably balance at 5k until the bigger games. A system selling 5k a week seems pretty much dead though.
The 360 was selling around 3-5K for a while though actually, iirc.
Reading these "Oh shit Wii U man" posts and seeing the numbers of all the other platforms shows the true nature of some people here :lol

Garbage week all around - something big coming this week?
Why are people still making such foolish comments when it's already been pointed out why the Vita, Wii U and 3DS are the major topics of conversation?

Where's Nirolak's post gone?

Numbers are poor all around, but the PS3 and Wii and PSP are not particularly topical.

Horrible hardware sales all across the board except for the 3DS really, won't things get even worse in July/August (summer)?

Agreed. If there's one thing that's been consistent with the Vita it's that when the platform gets decent game releases hardware sales are positively impacted. More consistent releases at the current price point would raise the baseline for weekly hardware sales, no question.

Finally people start getting it.

I don't get this. Having a consistent/decent game release schedule would positively impact hardware sales for every platform, not just VITA. Every single hardware company knows this but it's not completely within their power to ensure there are enough games for their platform.

Finally people start getting it.

Don't forget this. VITA is still the second best selling system (in Famitsu at least) so it's doing good.

Don't think anyone posted yet, but from Sony's corporate strategy presentation:

“PlayStation 3” continues to deliver stable hardware and software sales, and Sony will continue to reinforce the business’ position as a stable source of profit. In particular, the Company will seek to grow sales of content and services through PlayStation Store and contribute to profit. For “PlayStation Vita” (“PS Vita”), the Company will aim to secure further sales and profit through various hardware sales initiatives and the introduction of compelling software titles. The next generation platform, “PlayStation 4” (“PS4”) will launch this year-end holiday season. PS4 will deliver a quality gaming experience only possible through a dedicated gaming system, and will also enable smartphone and tablet users to share in the enjoyment of PS4, even without owning one themselves. Furthermore, customers who own both PS4 and PS Vita will be able to experience new services and game entertainment.

On the face of it, this seems at odds with Sony only projecting 3-3.5 million Vita units shipped this FY, but saying this and actually putting SCE's weight behind it are two different things. Well, we'll probably have at least a somewhat better idea of what this means in less than three weeks.

I'd be kind of surprised if they notably focused on Vita at E3, at least in the presentation itself, given they have the PS4 and have to at least show some things (like GT6) on PS3.

That said there isn't really a better time anytime soon, so I guess they could just send out information outside of the conference or talk about the Vita via a montage.

My guess would be a smaller-scale press event next week or the week after, or just trickling out stuff via the PS Blog.

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free
Saw the One Piece: Unlimited World Red 3DS scan - it looks ambitious for an OP 3DS title and it seems to have a MH-type multiplayer mode ? Could be a great combination for Bamco if it works....

It seems damn clever...

What's big on PS3? Musou? One Piece + Musou!
What's big on 3DS? Monster Hunter? One Piece + Monster Hunter!

EDIT: Yes, the scan talks about Romance Dawn for 3DS too, 8/8.

Query: If Sony does end up restricting used trade in some way - what impact would it have on the Japanese market for them?

That's my biggest concern about PS4. I hope they stay with what stated back in February: blocking being up to developers / publishers. In that way, while probably the situation wouldn't be that different from Xbox One here (._. Godawful, unless there's no bullshit like the giant paywall equal to game's price), in Japan there shouldn't be anything concerning: Japanese developers can release their PS4 titles without having to block used market. Used market is just too big in Japan, blocking it at systemic levels would bring to zero possibilities of PS4 of selling even just decently and getting most of Japanese support, except for the big WW titles.

What better way to show they are serious about platform than commiting part of main presentation to it ?

Maybe not show long trailers but at least show how ps4 streams to Vita and then follow with a bunch of games for PSV.

That's what I thought. Someone brought it up as a reason that Sony likely wouldn't be blocking used at a systemic level - and it seemed to ring true - so I thought I'd get Media Create thread's read. Assuming they want to at least try and be viable in Japan it bolsters confidence that they won't be blocking used.

Given how they handled Vita in a year when they didn't have a new console launching, if they devote more than a few minutes to Vita outside the context of PS4 connectivity, I'll be surprised. Not shocked or flabbergasted, just kinda surprised.

Why so defensive? When the Vita was around 6k people were giving it shit every single time.

How am I being defensive? Why so defensive about hating the wii u? :p

I was just saying many people will take the opportunity to criticize the wii u (and rightly so) while failing to notice all the numbers are varying degrees of terrible, not just the wii u.

Two OP games on the 3DS?

Well, Unlimited Cruise SP released back in May 2011, it's time for other OP titles on 3DS, no?
Now I'm wondering if we'll see Naruto games on 3DS too. I mean, not Rock Lee spin-off titles, but main Naruto titles.

if they did that it would be a disaster magnitudes bigger then the PS3 launch was .
it would be on a level of incompentence that could not be described.
(sorry for the hyperbole there but it would be true )

anyway .this week we can straight up say that XBONE will sell worse then 360 did in japan . (would that even be possible ? lol)

one other thing.
while this was teased by someone on gaf and i take every rumor or insiders words with a grain of salt.
http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=58658473&postcount=3074

the point of interest :

Last bit of info then. I know you're being sarcastic, but Demon's Souls 2 is in development.

Lets assume that he is right . how would this effect the PS4 in japan IF the FFversus and TLG rumor is true also ?

PS4 will leave used game blocking up to developers. They won't outright won't allow since even MS is bending their backs for western third parties and they can keep Japanese devs happily too.

I think the whole origin deal and used game blocking is the reason why EA is so sour towards Nintendo, and since the sales are so bad, they went all out public about it since they think there's nothing for them to lose anyway.

If we are using conspiracy theory of EA vs Wii U then public attacks doing damage to Wii U would benefit EA as they mean more consumers choosing ps4/xbone

edit: why are we discussing small title like DS2 when that post mentions Kingdom Hearts 3 is in development for PS4 ?

Kingdom Hearts 3 will be on PS4. It's no secret at this stage that the game exists. The question I think Sony fans want answered is whether it's exclusive, timed exclusive or on multiple platforms. Regardless of when that question is answered, Kingdom Hearts fans will be happy because they'll be playing a next generation Kingdom Hearts after years of waiting.

There is a Kingdom Hearts PS4 game due to be released in 2014. I guess obvious enough which one? Not KH3 btw.

Did Vita get a CC2 Naruto yet? Maybe they'll continue the PSP ones on 3DS.

It's mind-blowing how much Namco Bandai are RAKING on 3DS.

Now we need a Digimon Adventure port and an original Digimon and we're good on that. But where's our DBZ Shin Budokai 3D huh? :(

Because the implication is it won't be before KH 2.5 remake HD plus alpha zth in 2014

About One Piece: Unlimited World R, actually the scan is probably reporting that the game supports 4 players. So, it's probably One Piece x Monster Hunter too.

Sony has to do something NOW and not just betting that being a remote play device for the PS4 will rescue the Vita (in fact, people will expect to user their phones for that not some additional device). By that time the Vita will be dead and forgotten.

Sony has accepted Vita is dead you know.

Sony has accepted Vita is dead you know.

Well, as I said above, their forecast certainly suggests that. Their corporate strategy release doesn't, though the wording is admittedly vague and could easily just turn out to be PR bullshit.

Out of curiosity, do you have any industry connections? Your posts sometimes come off that way.

It'd be dead in the water.

As much as I wish that was the case I'm not really seeing it. PS4 will share games with XBONE and PC, both systems which will block used games, so there's not really an alternative for people that want to play those games. Used game market is big in Japan because it can be, but new game market is also large, and the new game sales are what we generally actually discuss week in week out. Of course there would still be alternatives (3DS,PS3,PSV,WiiU) which don't block used games, and that could slow down rate of adoption for new systems if they are all anti-used games, but it's like saying PS1 and PS2 were only popular because they allowed pirated games. Of course that made them popular in Asia because of that, but past generation when neither PS3 or X360 were easily "piratable" (for online play at least) we've actually started to see some half decent sales for PS3 software (from the limited data we get).

Obviously people prefer to pay cheaper for stuff, but if they don't have that option many will still pay full price for what they want.
