Maybe I'm getting greedy but I wish that some of these sites covering this would actually talk to some of us. The articles are so same-y without much of the meat of our argument.

Maybe you (someone) should take the initiative ?!, I would recommend Dave of Astora @davescook who works for VG247, he is a down to earth kinda of guy and easy to contact through twitter, I am sure there are others as well.

Bingo - contact these guys and ask if they want to run a story talking to the people behind the movement. "Exclusive" interviews in front of a huge wave of free clicks? Easy

Question for Mortimer. I know you said in the other thread that started this that Sony was planning on doing this but changed their minds after the backlash from the MS conference. So is this just to keep the pressure on and let Sony them know we don't want this stuff, or is it because they still haven't fully decided?

Yeah, I'll contact some people. I was actually talking to a reporter friend last night about how to get on more mainstream sites as well. We'll see how that goes...

Both the person who started it and the sentiment of this thread really make it the epitome of the Internet.

All I will say is, is you think publishers are going to be happy with only having 1 platform holder have some form of DRM that allows them to recoup money from used games sales, you are all astoundingly naive.

#therealworld #growup #gamesareexpensive
All I will say is, you're wrong.

Publishers will go where the money is. If it turns out that a non-DRM system sells a lot more than a DRMed system, hence bigger user base, then if you think the better selling system won't get games just because it doesn't have DRM, then I'm afraid you're the naive one.

Look at it this way, if they changed their minds not long ago (as Mortimer mentioned) then it means they could still change their minds again and put in a DRM solution for used games.

We don't want that and that is what this campaign is about. Sony are listening and that is the best we can hope for, for the moment.

That would be too wonderful of course if they didn't intend this in the first place. :D
But this is unclear, and that's why we're doing what we're doing.

they need to seriously consider their frasing anyway. They cannot promise that the PS4 will be completely free from DRM because they have the policy that it is up to the publisher.
What they can promise is that they do not have any support for that in their infrastructure and that all DRM must be on the publishers side. Though code activation through PSN must still be available as well so in part they have support for DRM, just not the servers and backbone.

I second this, Dave used to write for NowGamer and was always happy to discuss articles and news on Twitter.

Both.

To be clear, I don't know anyone that are in the rooms where these things are discussed. So the people ive talked to are discussing what they are hearing is the overall strategy. Could be bad information. Could be sony intentionally leaking out misinformation to their employees (knowing they have a leaky company...). I don't really know.

My belief is their mind isn't made up. I know for a fact from three different people that no one in the company outside of the people at the february reveal knew that the machine had 8gbs of ram. That decision was made in the week leading up to that announcement, if the people i've talked to are to be believed. They were all as shocked as we were.

Ok thanks. Well we just need to keep it up then.

The ICE team (the guys actually writing a lot of the graphics drivers for the PS4!) didn't know about the 8GB ram update based on their tweets. It sounds like just a handful at Sony + suppliers knew about it.

And if they can change their mind about something as big as that in such a short space of time, they sure as hell can change their mind about this.

Interesting.

All signs are pointing to no DRM right now from my sources. Maybe certain other publishers are getting more info, but I've heard other things that would leave me to believe they'd know about this.

By the way - did anyone tweet Rory Cellan-Jones? BBC's technology correspondent. @BBCRoryCJ is his professional account, @ruskin147 is his personal account. Don't spam the guy, just ask him.

What sources? Publishers? Sony? Or? (nothing too specific of course, just curious :) )

Pity someone else grabbed the PS4NoDRM twitter account - having that would have been a good resource. Could have linked the Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr, and website campaigns together.

Contact the account and see if you can't get them on board? Or even to give you the account

Let me show you through these halls, my friend, where treasures of indie gaming await...

Cant you just tweet him and ask him to do that?

It's going to suck when Activision and EA move away from making games for them then. That's the kind of stuff imo will happen. They'll move to where the money is.

Neither of them can afford to do that. Sony's always done extremely well and Europe, and the majority of FIFA and CoD sales in that territory comes from Sony's platforms. They're in it to make money and Sony's platforms make them a lot of money. MS might get exclusives and exclusive content (we're already see that on EA's end), but I can't see them dropping the PS4 altogether. They'd be losing far more money by doing that than they will through used game sales.

Yeah, if the PS4 sells well, there's no possible way they'd eliminate a large source of revenue.

You think they'll drop a whole user base to get a tiny slice of the used games sales? lol

But if the PS4 sells very good without DRM, why would they abandon such a big market?

They probably do need Sony as much as, if not more than, Sony needs them.

Do certain third parties think they need Sony as much as they think Sony needs them? Not necessarily.

EDIT: To be clear, I don't think there's any chance of any of the big publishers completely abandoning PS4. Just that they'd be more favorably inclined to MS for certain moneyhat arrangements (timed exclusive DLC, flat-out exclusive DLC/features, possible timed exclusivity period).
