Sonic Lost Worlds Debut Trailer [Up: Wii U + 3DS screenshots]

Not that it's a Galaxy clone as we haven't seen much but maybe this is telling that we will get a Mario in a totally different direction than the Galaxy series because too many games that share elements and vibes isn't a great thing.

Not that most think EAD Tokyo's game will be another Galaxy but it's possible and this makes me more likely to believe it will be something altogether different.

I'm up for the Mario no matter if it's another Galaxy or something totally fresh.

Holy shit dude...

D:

OP: Can't wait to see further 3DS vids. :D

One more reason to get a Wii U. The last sonic game I've played was the Dreamcast one, don't know why I've neglected Sonic for all these years...

I wish Bentley Jones and SEGA didn't have a falling out after the first SEGA All-Stars. he could take songs I hated and make them into something.

However, Hunnid-P said last year he was making music for the next Sonic game, so I am guessing the main theme of this game will be by then. It could of been a joke, maybe not. For people who don't know, he was the guy who did Knuckles rap songs in Sonic Adventure 2.

Diznang, that looks swell visually

but...i can't get hyped for a Sonic game. I won't allow myself to. Hope it turns out well though

The only difference between hope and hype is a letter, dude.

I don't need an entire Crush 40 soundtrack, but they gotta throw me at least one bone.

They did with that bitchin' music in the trailer.
Sega keeps inching closer and closer to what really makes a Sonic game worth playing, and the parkour-ish stuff sounds like a great natural extension of the core mechanics.

im glad it looks decent, but yeah we'll see

I remember when people said Sonic Colors was basically Sonic Galaxy.. uh yeah this is much more convincing

Someone on Sonic Retro made this:

While I prefer classic Sonic, I don't think he necessarily needs to be here, but this brings up a problem the games have had for a while: Sonic being shrunken/things being disproportionately too big.

Though when I think about Classic Sonic seems to fit the look they're going for better, too.

I know a lot of Sonic Xtreme comparisons are being made, but does anyone else think the Lost World itself is a reference to Xtreme? :O

Yeah, I made a comment about this earlier in the thread..

Probably not likely, but even if there is another justification for the title, they might have decided use this specific name as an intentional wink.

Sonic is not a fucking silent protagonist, never understood this sentiment. Even Classic Sonic in Generations should have had a voice. I'd have lost my shit if they got Jaleel White to voice him

the Sonic I care about is absolutely a silent protagonist, even if it was merely from tech limitations

im okay with him throwing a "woo!" or some shit like that every now and then, just dont give him fucking dialogue, the game doesnt need it

works for Mario

Well, the sheep and bells lead me to think the game may be a dream world. It's fragmented because dreams are fragmented. The world is made up of things from Sonic's world: levels, badniks, maybe explains why Wisps are here. The Deadly Six could be dream demons or something.

But that is legitimately the only reason he had no voice back then. I'm sorry man, he's gonna keep talking. I bet Felix the Cat fans and Micky Mouse fans complained back in the day too, after the silent era.

That video of Sonic Extreme was seriously awesome, still dont get why Sega didnt prioritize it harder. Its mindblowing that the Saturn never had a real Sonic-game imo.

absolutely, yet that doesnt hold anything to my argument

if tech limitations got in the way of their original vision and actually made for a better game than what it would have been had they had total liberty then that.. still makes for a better game

I think this same point has been proven many times with the new iterations

it's too bad what SEGA thinks Sonic is isnt what I (or a ton of other people) thought Sonic was

it's clearly clashing with them though so they make up with some interesting and more oldschool stuff in games like this. It's a shame that for some reason they still want to hold on to some of the really bad new stuff. That just isnt for me, personal taste and all

It was being made by an American team and when xenophobe Yuji Naka found out they were using his NiGHTS engine for it he flipped out and forced the game to die.

Was a typo the most important thing I said? I didn't typo back here: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=59817333&postcount=902

I grew up with silent Sonic, but he still always had a voice. Whether it was the voice in my head from reading comics, or the voice I heard in the cartoons. So I just can't comprehend where your coming from. Sonic does not have the persona of a silent character at all. It honestly irked me greatly in Generations.

Something I noticed with the trailer -- Sonic's "bop enemies" sound is back. Classic Sonic in Generations had it, but Modern Sonic didn't.

Strange they didn't also go with Sonic's "Wop" jump sound and the classic spring noise.

I dont see how your own experience with the character somehow limits you to not understand where I can be coming from.

My experience was clearly different. I enjoyed the comics and later enjoyed the cartoons. I just personally hate the voice and dialogue they gave him in the games. I dont think it benefits the games there at all. It actively hurts them.

as we all know less can be more. Conveluted stories are something a main Sonic game does not need at all.

You basically get the same exposition and story from a mainline Sonic game as you get from Mario Galaxy. Mario does it vissually and without the need of everyone having long needless dialogue. Sonic could absolutely do this, and is at it's best when it does.

Im not saying be silent for the sake of being silent, im saying not talk when there's absolutely no need to.

Sonic is a hedgehog, Eggman is evil, Sonic fights eggman, there's some other weird animals in the way.

None of this needs anyone extensively talking for it to be comprehensive. There's more story in a silent pixar short

Sega is the Pixar of the gaming world. This game is stunning given the hardware that it's running on.

The level design looks great too. I just hope they refine the running towards the screen sections as those usually don't work very well.

While this could be true, don't read too much into this. The Sonic trailers always are dubbed over. Such as when they used the being hit noise for the collect a ring noise in an old Sonic Unleashed trailer.

Roger is not bad at all.

I don't disagree, I love Roger.

My experience being different than your own is precisely why I can't relate to you opinion. I can neither empathize with it nor agree with it. So I guess we just need to agree to disagree.

Has anybody discussed the fact that the figure 8 animation is lame and tacked on? You can still see Sonic's feet, the figure 8 is just pasted on top. :(

Please be 60fps, please be 60fps, please be 60fps, please be 60fps, please be 60fps, please be 60fps, please be 60fps.

If this game can run on the 3DS, no excuses... Super Mario fricken Galaxy is at 60fps and that is a Wii title. Getting similar vibes here, don't fuck it up SEGA!

I like the cutscenes in Sonic games. They're silly. Eggman is a great character.

I dont really agree with that though, I think it works both ways.

anyway, yeah. What im basically saying is that I think the games and their storytelling would be fuckin a lot better if instead of having everyone open their mouths every two seconds to say some piece of cringeworthy extreme-like bad joke they would just strip it down to it's most functional basics and tried to get everything across through animations as a way to express and represent it

get rid of the unnecessary shit, Sonic is simple and still great at it's core. It's really easy and I just hate to keep seeing SEGA working towards what I personally consider the wrong direction.

they almost got it with Generations and I thought they were gonna keep going from that, I guess not?

The controls sound needlessly convoluted. And previews for Sonic Heroes promised "multiple paths" in the stages, too. I'm not convinced that this game isn't more of the same Colors/Generations mediocrity.

This will be the first Sonic game I buy day one since Sonic Adventure. I'm so damn hyped. Holy cow at those screens. This looks like Nintendo polish so far.

At this point I don't even care about the difference between old Sonic and new Sonic. I only want old Sonic back in the comics.

Even though I don't read them. But I would if they went back to fun little Archie style stories over these month long arcs.

Colors ran at 30fps on the Wii, so don't get your hopes up. I'm straight assuming this game is running at 30fps till I hear otherwise. It's better to be surprised than disappointed.
