Major Nelson: "We Are Listening!"

if they back out of online only .... I buy , used games don't bother me as much

It bothers me for the rentals though more then used games,I tend to keep my games because of the collector in me...we shall see,I thought they would of waited at E3 to settle this but it looks like they really want for E3 to be about the games...

Microsoft is never listening, they just say they are. This is because they are smart and know how to make money. They know that all the gamers will still buy a console that costs money to play online, requires online DRM and kinect to work and blocks used games. They know their audience. People may shout loudly at first but then give it a few months and everyone will defend Microsoft's decisions. Statements like this just help them keep the loud core gamers complaining to a minimum before they hit the acceptance phase. I may be wrong and people would actually not buy Xbone, but I honestly highly doubt it. I expect this system to be very successful even as a PS4 fan and even if PS4 sells more the Xbone would make more money.

Yeah, I am cynical.

Honestly, what can they do?

If the system does require every game to be installed on the HDD in order to do that fast switching between The Price is Right and your game; not using some kind of CD-Key authentication will lead to rampant cases of people just lending a game to someone else or buying and then returning the disc while keeping it on their HDD.

They could make it so that you must install the game, but it requires the disc to boot (like PC games did before Steam).

Glue your game discs to the walls and let Kinnect scan them.

Oh I can't wait to hear their PR responses that are so inconclusive and open to interpretation that it makes the baby Jesus cry.

And with Kinect, they'll always be listening.

Why is everyone just saying "we are listening" and "we love your passion". It's like some Fox News style memos went out. I'm starting to think they're all in cahoots.

"Our PR department would like everyone to know that we are currently scrambling to fix the negative impression we made from our reveal and will spend as much money as we can to calm people's tempers so we can continue with our stubborn money making schemes"

Slacktivism, eh?

EDIT: But seriously, i don't know how drastically they can change their politics at this point, not much, i'd guess.

That's good to hear. I figured people would reply with cynicism and bitterness though.

Eh, "We are listening" is pretty much a meaningless statement anyways. Doesn't denote any change or usage of the feedback, just that they've seen it.

Let's say they back pedal on some of the issues we have.
What's to stop them from flip-flopping a year later with a firmware update?

So there is no policy, statement or action that Microsoft could take which would let you accept their product? You don't realistically sound like part of their potential audience.

This little tune comes to mind with anything MS says.

*You spin me right round, baby
right round like a record, baby
Right round round round
You spin me right round, baby
Right round like a record, baby
Right round round round

All they are listening to is the confusion, don't think that we are going to get any significant changes to what they've said.

I think it behooves Microsoft to just announce their plans for DRM, having a teaser tweet is probably not the best idea right now.

It'll be interesting to see how deeply sewn the MS plans are.

It sounds like they have some pretty concrete infrastructure in place, and potentially some partnerships lined up with publishers as a result.

I'm not entirely sold on their ability to change the course (at least very dramatically) at this juncture in the game...

If its anything other than "we decided to not have DRM or used game codes, so we are dropping it", I don't care what you could possibly say.

Once again it would have been better to say nothing. Say something when you have something substantial to announce.

It's not the listening that's been their issue really.

Getting answers off relevant people? It's not a brain twister. Don't know if it will actually happen....

It shouldn't take rounding. Answers? Relevant people? That was the whole problem in the first place. 20 different people giving 20 different answers. There should be one person, one answer. It shouldn't be that difficult. VIDEOGAMES.

You had fucking months to "get answers". MS dropped the ball majorly.

Both them and Sony have. Sony has been the good guy in this whole firestorm but they haven't announced shit since February. I want them both to come out with their plans before I get hyped over their games. Fuck dancing around the topic like both have in their twitter posts.

"Our PR department would like everyone to know that we are currently scrambling to fix the negative impression we made from our reveal and will spend as much money as we can to calm people's tempers so we can continue with our stubborn money making schemes"

So a company adjusting its policies and content to what consumers want so they can operate profitably is...bad?

So only now he is looking for answers? This to me is delay the inevitable tactics, try and drum up some master PR spin knowing they are going through with this shit. The whole Xbox One PR so far has been absolute rubbish.

I'm amazed (and very entertained) by the fact that anything Microsoft says is being mocked at this point.

They can say something like "$40 dollars games and not DRM" and they will be mocked.

Not a major criticism or anything, but given that this tweet is a reply, the OP should probably link to it or at least provide the full context.
