Major League Baseball will seek to suspend about 20 players connected to the Miami-area clinic at the heart of an ongoing performance-enhancing drug scandal, including Alex Rodriguez and Ryan Braun, possibly within the next few weeks, "Outside the Lines" has learned. If the suspensions are upheld, the performance-enhancing drug scandal would be the largest in American sports history.

Tony Bosch, founder of the now-shuttered Biogenesis of America, reached an agreement this week to cooperate with MLB's investigation, two sources told "Outside the Lines," giving MLB the ammunition officials believe they need to suspend the players.

One source familiar with the case said the commissioner's office might seek 100-game suspensions for Rodriguez, Braun and other players, the penalty for a second doping offense. The argument, the source said, is the players' connection to Bosch constitutes one offense, and previous statements to MLB officials denying any such connection or the use of PEDs constitute another.

The players who might ultimately face discipline from MLB include: Rodriguez, Braun, Cabrera, Colon, Grandal, Nelson Cruz, Francisco Cervelli, Jesus Montero, Jhonny Peralta, Cesar Puello, Fernando Martinez, Everth Cabrera, Fautino de los Santos, Jordan Norberto and a number of other players who either are identified by code names or whose names appear in other documents not obtained by "Outside the Lines."

Update

Boom goes the dynamite

Ryan Braun suspended for the rest of 2013 by MLB

admitted it
“As I have acknowledged in the past, I am not perfect. I realize now that I have made some mistakes. I am willing to accept the consequences of those actions. This situation has taken a toll on me and my entire family, and it is has been a distraction to my teammates and the Brewers organization. I am very grateful for the support I have received from players, ownership and the fans in Milwaukee and around the country. Finally, I wish to apologize to anyone I may have disappointed – all of the baseball fans especially those in Milwaukee, the great Brewers organization, and my teammates. I am glad to have this matter behind me once and for all, and I cannot wait to get back to the game I love.”

Yankees 2B Robinson Cano is also on the chopping block for using an alleged Pseudonym related to the name of his charity.

I have to believe the majority of professional athletes are using drugs, when are they just going to let it be out in the open?

Something of this magnitude is a double edged sword for the sport no?

If you suspend a crap ton of players, average people are going to hear on the news that baseball is dirty yet again.

But if you come down really hard, the incentive is there for players to not participate in this and should eventually lead to a cleaner game.

i just hope, perhaps foolishly, that for once Congress does not grandstand and call these people to Washington to testify. For once. Because really, outside of the scope of baseball, it's not all that important.

so what? the object is to win. doesn't matter how strong you are, if you can't hit the ball you aren't going to succeed.

this will never fly and the Playerr's association would destroy Bud if he attempted this.

Not anymore at least from their performance the past few seasons! ;)

They were clean all the way through. That's just father time taking it's course. They could have had more years if only they took PEDs.

Chase Utley will be remembered as one of the top two players of the 2000s. A-Rod and Cano may have both been cheating.

I feel like most posters who are fans of teams of potentially suspended players are willing to look the other way in order for their team to win. Something similar to Jon Voight in Varsity Blues when it comes to Billy Bob...

I can see these guys being on PED's. Especially Cabrera, he is a monster at the plate. If Cruz was to be suspended it would help the Rangers situation of who to drop to AA. Allowing Ian and Profar to stay on the line up. But Cruz would be a huge loss at the plate. Everyone else idk about. Go Rangers

After it's revealed that he's really 41 years old.

That's a given. Have you ever seen the documentary Ballplayer: Pelotero.

It's a pretty good look into the way prospects are groomed and signed away from the Dominican Republic. Families take their kids out of school to go to these baseball boarding schools to help support their families. Families that live on scraps bank on their sons getting 6-7 figure signing bonuses from Major League teams.

It shows the incentive for players to lie about their age and take performance enhancing drugs. Sometimes the difference between extreme poverty and enough wealth to support generations to come is one forged birth certificate or some drugs. Once you are over 16 years old you are worth much, much less to Major League teams.

Melky not Miguel.

I don't care if professional athletes are on roids, and A-Rod's ordeal proved to me that the general public doesn't either.

A-Rod - "You caught me. I was on roids for a couple of years, but then I stopped"

General populace - "Oh, Okay".

Are you thinking of Miguel Cabrera? Because he's not on the list.

People still care about steroids?

Let them all use it, who cares. I enjoyed watching roided up hitters demolish the ball growing up, and MLB sure didnt mind during the McGwire Sosa chase.
