I am still in shock at how big of a clusterfuck this is.

● The worst most, mis-communicated reveal in game industry history other than maybe Saturn.
● Once every 24 hour internet check just to be able to continue to play your games
● A horrendous proprietary used game system that gives pubs and Microsoft a 10% of the profits, thus ensuring the deals one can get on Used games are reduced and having less options for every gamer
● Complete inability to rent, lend or borrow games without paying a "fee", since every game must be installed. And the fee is the price of a brand new game, which Phil Harrison tells us to "think of it like a new game", because he is an abominable retard.
● Complete fucking tall tales and fabrications regarding the "Infinite Power of Cloud" which they did because...
● ...their system is a woefully underpowered trojan horse arbitrarily increased in price because of...
● ...a piece of shit dead-end gaming technology called "Kinect 2.0" which on top of being complete garbage for most genres, also is packed in with every system and...
● ...is also a horrendous invasion of privacy since it cannot be shut off without unplugging the system.
● A console which is also, after all this time, having massive eSRAM yield issues because Microsoft is caught rushing the One to the market.
● And they wasted their reveal talking about TV, TV, TV, TV, TV to do a function that nobody in their right mind would do if they had a DVR, to talk about sports and Kinect and have only two real games at their reveal.
● And is now liberally peppering all their attacks with a unhealthy dose of aggressive arrogance.
● On top of that gigantic shit sandwich, they have now also canceled their post-E3 media roundtable, presumably because they're tired of being eviscerated and embarrassed non-stop since January 2013. Once again, because of shit they did and no one else.
● Plus their presentation of their OS at the media reveal was confirmed to be completely fake, which wouldn't have been terrible except the entire time of the reveal they were trying to convince people it was real. "See how fast this thing moves!?"


DID I MISS ANYTHING GUYZ? Because holy goddamn shit at this point. This has been without exception the most biblical epic failure of console reveals, even topping the PS3's $599.99 just for its sheer confounding, aimless nonsense since the beginning of 2013. Not a single day has passed by without some relentless bit of tortuously negative Xbox One news.


The kicker? This is ALL Microsoft's fault and they should have seen the reaction coming a mile away since the problems they introduced of their own free will has been eviscerated among gamers and the press for years now, to say nothing of things like the Sim City or Diablo III debacle.

The proof is in the pudding. Holy goddamn fuck

No backward compatibilty whatsoever is a big failure: no headset, no x360 controller, no retail game, no digital game, and no plan to change this as "backward compatibilty is backwards"... In regards to all these faults you pointed, having an incentive to stick to the brand people invested in could have mitigated things. But there's actually no hook to not switch to a better proposal, which PS4 seems to be. At least PS4 will reuse move and Sony seems to be working on a way to port PS3 games to the cloud/find a way to satisfy their customers.

Sony's reveal was Meh. It only looks good because Microsoft's reveal was repulsive.

How is Sony mimicking the PS3? Cell? Now if your talking about a wide range of exclusive titles that go beyond FPS and Racing games, then you have a point. It can't be courting indies... I don't get it.

Some parts if the reveal may have been a bit on the 'meh' side, but overall it accomplished things that Sony needed to do and showed off a bit of what the console could potentially do in the hands of some very good developers.

The primary thing they did was build hype by officially letting the world know that the PS4 existed and letting the developers talk about it. Vision was discussed and future plans shown without the wool being pulled over your eyes in terms of availability of some of their products and services. Example, it would be awesome if Gaikai could do all the stuff we've dreamed of, but they grounded the announcement by letting us know some of it just won't be ready at launch. Some bad news, but it's honest.

Also, not sure on the PS3 bit either, but I think Sony is showing they've learned from past transgressions.

I mean, even if the games are native 720p, so? Are those games good? Then who cares? I've said myself on many occasions I'd be happy with current gen visuals at 60 frames, 1080p with full AA.

Next gen visuals at 720/60 still sounds good to me. But then, when you own all the consoles I guess there's less need to justify a purchase. I mean, my WiiU is by no means a powerful console, but it doesn't transform into a robot at night punch me in the face as a result of what GAF thinks of it.

So as long as Microsoft doesn't reveal plans to have the One transform into a robot and punch me in the face, I should be good.

The conversation has been done to death so many frigging times, but the moral of the story is that there's more to hardware power than just "visuals".

So...From what I've learned on GAF consensus is that whatever the majority of the forum agrees on, the opposite will actually happen.
I.E.: The Vita. Everyone thought the Vita was the best thing since sliced bread and looked what kind of sales its getting.

They will sell out sure. But how many systems are they going to be able to make if they are running into so many fab problems? That is the question.

I don't know how Gaikai will be, but I can't imagine that'll feasibly be a good replacement for BC considering the lag/quality issues that will be introduced due to latency issues. So I think Sony deserves a hit on that level too, but on the same time acknowledging the PS3 architecture was so out there that it's obviously not feasible to make an affordable platform and include PS3 BC. I hold that same standard for Xbox One and its lack of BC. THey should, however, provide a slashed price incentive for people to show they own a PS3 game (or 360 game), so they might be able to digitally download.

Xbox One has really been undercooked so far, and according to CBOAT, that's because it IS undercooked: Microsoft has, for whatever reason, been caught with their knees about their ankles, some busted broad desperately chugging at its withered cock as it tries to feel young again. And there is absolutely no reason why this should be the case. It's not like everyone on the planet didn't realize the system generations needed to switch ages ago.

All that said, it's without any doubt the PS4 to date has been massively more appealing than Xbox One, and I'm not even sure how anyone would begin to dispute that lol

Just learn the mighty rules: NeoGAF is not a hive mind, it is not a den of Sony fanboys or Microsoft fanboys or Nintendo fanboys, and that the vast majority is genuinely expressing their opinion on this (and most other) issues. The overwhelming negativity about Xbox One is because what has been revealed about the system has been, for the most part, overwhelmingly negative. Since this is a gaming enthusiast website, it makes sense a lot of the outrage is inflated compared to other places - hobbyists are by definition more passionate about their love of choice and thus more prone to defend/attack something they like/don't like - and it has nothing to do with "always being wrong" or whatever. neoGAF has been right (when polls have been taken and we consider the choice chosen by the most neoGAFers in the community) almost as often as it has been wrong.

I'm not surprised. To me, the words that stood out when they made that announcement, were, "15 exclusives within one year of launch."

They didn't say, at launch, or the launch window, or even within the first six months, the said they'd be out by the end of the first year. Ignoring the fact that delays are common in this industry, the fact that they cited the first year, means they're including several games which are likely very early in development.

This past generation, developers and publishers have been very reluctant to reveal games while they were still very early in development. Therefore, it really isn't surprising that some of these titles wouldn't be revealed during the E3.

Right, dominance one generation means nothing to future generations. I get sort of amused when folks insist sales in the us for the 360 mean the demand for the xbone is high.

It means absolutely nothing in the end, because the consoles are starting with more or less a blank slate.

Delayed game development, down clocking the CPU, lower GFLOPS, DRM, over heating, supply restriction, bad reveal, more expensive then PS4, TV TV TV etc. Well, all projects can have problems but this look like a meltdown on all fronts. Worst case senario in every risk analysis case of the project. So the question is what is true in all this problems. And on the other hand Sony doing everything right and have no problems with anything, hmm...! Well I think something is not right about all this negative posts about Xbox one. But only time can tell and bigger projects than this have derailed in the history so we will see.
