Without the infamous 7.5 maybe is a 97.
All part of Major Nelson's plan.

Guyths, which is the least spoilerific video review? If it's just random gameplay tidbits, I'm not bothered.
Cheers.
Sorry if this is a little OT but does anyone know when the cutoff for pre-orders at gamestop are? Contemplating getting the Survival edition there (dat midnight release too) over my $45 newegg order.
Metacritic 96
Gee whizz, I'm sick of being right all the time.
Survival editions are sold out at gamestop already, but you can order a post-pandemic edition from them online though, I think
Is there a specific reason this is coming out on a Friday? I'm glad it is, just surprised since almost all games I buy at launch are on Tuesday.
Huh, well they're available on their online store. Would suck if I couldn't pre-order in store
Probably has a lot to do with E3. IGN speculated that Sony may announce a PS3 + TLOU bundle at E3, which would be made available on Friday.
I tried ordering one, but it removes the item from the cart at checkout. Post pandemic seems to work though
I tried going to a store today and preordering it but they told me there were no more copies available and that it was company-wide. Called another store and asked them about it too. At this point i'm just hoping amazon gets some more copies or something. I really just wanted the steelbook and the artbook though, and you can buy the artbook by itself - http://www.amazon.com/dp/161655164X/?tag=neogaf0e-20
This is without a doubt a quality game, but what I dont get is how another shooter in this gen that is overpopulated with them doesnt get knocked by ANY reviewers for being more of the same, even though it is better. Compare that to the treatment of other genres like jrpgs, action-games or plattformers, and the hyperbole seems really obvious to me. But ofcourse, I have not played the game, and probably never will (doesnt look at all interesting to me despite the glowing reviews), but glad it turned out well.
Naughty Dog gets lost in the dark
- The last of us shows that the makers of Uncharted should stick to more lightweight entertainment
A kick in the chest. A blow to the jaw. The man is on the ground, his panicked look meets the shotgun. The shot goes off. His face disappears. Jack Tretton laughs.
The Sony E3 2012 pressconference is over, they just showed their flagship game The last of us and when the Sonyboss Tretton has finished laughing he chooses the words that finishes the show These titles shows the creativity that PS3 stands for!
That was a year ago, and now The last of us is here. But one thing happened during this year. The walking dead happened and one cannot avoid comparing these titles. They want to tell the exact same story. The story of a middle-aged man and a young girl on a journey through an America that has perished in a zombie apocalypse, a story of compassion in a brutal world.
Less terror, less adrenaline
The one fundamental difference between both these titles is how they tell this story. Naughty Dog (who made The last of us) chose the traditional gaming way, 90% of the game is killing/third person shooting monsters and bandits and they then placed the story in cutscenes, short pauses in the action. Telltale (who made The walking dead) chose to build the story first and foremost and built up scenes that the player is acting in. It is amazing how much better the last method works.
The walking dead is not just better than The last of us at making the characters relatable and making a good gamingworld. The walking dead is also better at making the game more exciting, more adrenaline pumping, more frightening. Things that usually work better for action games. And I am just as surprised as you are.
Heavier, tougher and worse
On Naughty Dogs CV we find the Uncharted games, amazing matinée adventures about a treasure hunter who swings around from one fantastic place to another, while everything explodes around him. The games are perfect blockbusters, games you run through, games where everything feels easy. With The last of us Naughty Dog wants to be though. Challenges are set up, heavy moments lived through. And when everything doesnt go perfect its obvious that the sneaking and shooting is not more interesting than the ones we have done in hundreds of other games. When Naught Dog tries to get the characters to show sorrow and yearning instead of lets go find a treasure! it becomes obvious that they cant do it.
Dont listen to them
Now there are some touching scenes, a minute or two here and there in the 16h long action sequence, and I assume that will be enough for the world gaming press to become ecstatic from all the mind-blowing action(this quote is used in English in the text) and moved to tears over the characters father and daughter relationship. But seriously, this is a game that builds on a monotonous gaming concept that years ago was done and done again. And seriously, the relationship is mostly the father using his compassion for the daughter figure as an excuse to torture, execute and set fire to people.
So I say, do not listen to these reviewers. They speak some Orwellian reverse language, the same as Jack Tretton spoke during last E3, and same as he will speak during this E3, same as him and his peers in the industry is always going to speak, until the day we say no more.
Sure, you can call monotony exciting, you can call violence love, and you can call the gaming industry stagnation for epoch-breaking quality. But that doesnt mean its true.

It's going to be hilarious if the same happens with Wii U... though the implications of that may be troubling since that'd probably require both the X1 and PS4 really screwing things up. Depending on HOW they screw up it'd probably be for the best.Man who knew back in 2007-2008, when we all joked PS3 has no game, that this would be the consoles legacy, ending with a thunderous bang with Last of Us, GTA5 and GT6 amongst others, while the competitors have long since teetered off
Cheat Code Central said:The Last of Us is one of the best games I have had the pleasure to play in my life. The graphics are gorgeous and believable; the soundtrack is pure audible gold for the ears; the story and actors deliver in a way that it should become industry standard. However, there is one thing The Last of Us does better than many games out there--it treats you like an adult. It doesnt hold punches; it doesnt try to hide away from hard issues; it is just what it is. You are not a stupid gamer, and Naughty Dog realizes this and therefore doesnt treat you like one.
Pretty much my feelings here, cover-shooter with stealth segments, zombies and tacked-on crafting sounds kinda tired at this point, but ND has a track record of quality games (I fucking loved crash as a kid) and if they make a fun game that reviews and sells well, good for them.

See comments like this make me confused...
Cover shooter? You only have a handful of bullets to spare....
Stealth segments?-Again you can choose to be stealthy, and you can choose not to. You can easily go guns ablazin' but will probably die...and you can even avoid some encounters entirely.
Tacked on crafting?-The whole game mechanic is created around scavenging for scarce items....
Honestly, I feel like there are many people popping in this thread going "oooooooh nice review scores, might want to pick it up." without knowing a single iota of it's mechanics are, nor what this game is ultimately about.

Alright GAF, here is the review you should read. I translated as best I could another Swede could evaluate me.
2 out of 5! One could give any score they want as a reviewer, but they need the review to back that up.

I'm not sure if you've been following this game or not, but this is more than your standard 3rd person shooter.
It's not some Resident Evil 4 reskined with Uncharted.
It's a game about survival. A game that forces you to be patient with every move you make. It's a game that also will punish you if all you want to do is PEW PEW PEW (the infected are 1 bite kill regardless of your difficulty).
It's a game that asks the player, do they want to use there last few remaining bullets (since ammo is very scarce), or do they want to use there last shiv they just crafted.
Also, many of it's mechanics are quite old school in nature (at least for this generation of games). There are health packs (no regenerating health), very difficult (similar to demon souls in some ways), you have to scavange and craft, and plus it has light rpg elements like upgrading your characters various skills, as well as upgrading your weapons.
So again, this isn't a game about PEW PEW PEW...If anything it's a game about being methodical and smart with every enemy encounter you come across.
But this is not a shooter. It is a survival action game. You are never forced to take one approach, like shooters do.
Because ND created a game that was heavy in the shooting mechanics previously it should not be the basis of what this game is to be judged. It's a new game and a new IP, so by the very least you should have the courtesy to check out the latest review impressions before stating your points as it detriments the whole discussion into trying to correct any false pretense before even a proper discussion could be formulated.
None of those features found in TLOU is even classified as a shooter. Not ONE review ever stated that. This is why it is best that one does learn at least the details of the game before sending out remarks that can easily be passed on as hyperbolic or stealth trolling.

Doesnt sound the LEAST bit exciting to me. But I see that this is a particularly negative review and probably should be taken with a grain of salf. I am glad for all the clarifications, but honestly, it does still sound like a boring shooter to me. Guess its just not for me, and as I said, I AM glad that you guys get what you want from it.
Is this a review or a angry blog post? And if either, is this about TLOU or Jack Tretton?

Look guys, you are all right that I have not followed this game close at all, but my impression comes from footage and the review just posted on this page:

Where the hell are you guys popping out from? This is just embarrassing. Over 130+ pages and you people still don't know what the game is all about? SMH. PLEASE READ THE DAMN REVIEWS!
I know right? It's like they applied applied occams razor the moment they saw "Naughty Dog, guns, cover = THE SHOOTEZS". Come on people, please try not to pass false information as if it's legit.
FUCK I JUST READ IT! NOOOOOOOOOO!
review sites should disable comments until the game is released!

Really don't read that Aftonbladet review, he seem to misunderstand what the game is all about.Look guys, you are all right that I have not followed this game close at all, but my impression comes from footage and the review just posted on this page:

It's NOT a "shooter 90% of the tim" game at all. In fact, you probably won't survive if you are up against a wave and decide to use your guns.
That said, I literally have a gun with 16 bullets and another gun with 8 bullets, so I'm not lacking ammunition currently - but I guess it depends where in the game you are. If you run out of bullets, you won't just find a magazine here or there in the area you're in.
Okay, I see some have been spoiled by comment on other sites - I'm out of here until I have completed the game.
