Turns Out Women Have Really, Really Strong Sex Drives: Can Men Handle It?

I wish we had more links to the actual studies in these sorts of threads.

Same. According to the quote of the author by Mumei "some" of the studies are based on evidence that has alternative explanations. How much is "some"? Would this explanation greatly change the result of the analysis? Are their alternative explanations for the phenomena seen in the other studies?

Haha, if I had a dollar for every time I read "a sample of 30 psychology students aged 18-35 participating in exchange for course credit" during my Thesis lit review research...

If I had a dollar for every time I've been one of those psychology students...

I'd have $4.

*shrug* It was required.

That said, you can get good money for taking part in some of these experiments. I signed up for a joint econ-psych project that was testing our bidding preferences on goods bundles under competitive conditions, and walked away with £63 for two hours' work.

Currenly my methodology section reads "to control for potential gender effects, only female participants will be recruited".

What it would read if I was being completely honest is "I'll only get maybe 1 or 2 dudes max because Psychology students are 85% women on this campus and spider-fear is less than half as common amongst men as it is amongst women".

ur such a pro

btw give me advice how do i get women

You don't! That's the most ingenious part.

You test how scared people are of spiders?

dude, that's like full on evil scientist level. i am impressed and worried

It's even better than that actually. I'm building a program to evolve phobic stimnuli (read: pictures of spiders), making them progressively more distressing over time based on user input.

holy shit

You have this down to a science.

*Points to Bachelor of Science degree with pride*

This totally goes against what my church has taught me about women. But it also explains tumblr and the millions of self masturbating videos women take of themselves.

My degree now feels boring and mundane. ;_;

Phobias are strange things. I had a colleague throw a photo book of mine to the ground because one of the pictures had a squirrel in it (she was afraid of rodents, and had recently become afraid of squirrels when informed they were just rodents with bushy tails). I've witnessed another colleague (a field biologist no less) have a freak out because we saw a snake on the side of the road. We were in an SUV at the time.

Not surprising. Women hit on men all the time, they are just subtle about it. On dating sites, you can find women who want one night stands they just don't come out and say it. And I've had more than a few exes grab my hand and take me into the bedroom with a big ass grin. (Just my ancedotal experience anyway).

I'm not sure what people are expecting then. Seems an odd notion to me that some people would believe that women aren't that horny for sex. That would be a fun relationship wouldn't it?

On the subject of women being possibly hornier than men: it seems like it would be a hard thing to quantify. I'm sure there are number of variables to take into consideration. My understanding is that women tend to be more selective about who they have sex with rather than being a lot less horny for sex. Of course some women have one night stands with strangers. I don't know however if that is a universally innate thing that many women are really wanting or a developmental thing acquired through subjective experience. Human behaviour is extraordinarily complex,

I'm male, but I would say I am actually pretty selective when it comes to women. I wouldn't say it is an innate thing, it is more a conscious decision. I may not behave or think a certain way, yet I may still agree that men have a tendency to act a certain way. i don't really see it as a contradiction.

I will give an extreme example: Boris Becker (retired tennis player) once paid a woman a million dollars to have sex with him in a broom closet. It was just some woman he propositioned in a restaurant. It actually cost him more than that as well because he ended up getting the woman pregnant (lol), Now, it seems like the most ridiculously stupid thing to do, it doesn't seem worth it to me at all, yet I understand how the male libido could drive a man to do something as irrational as that. If he is lacking a little self control at least.

A couple of things to note: First of all, that is how horny a man can get! The second thing, despite me not doing it, I know if I allowed my sex drive to completely take over, I would fuck everything that moves as long they were at least reasonably sexually attractive. It wouldn't matter what their personality was like, it wouldn't even matter if they were death and dumb. I would treat them entirely like a sex object and nothing more. Just an object of my desire.

Of course I don't do that because there is far more to my personality and behaviour than simple primitive instinctual drives.

Don't feel bad. Even working on cool projects is mostly boring and mundane work.

My supervisor for this thesis runs a phobia-related project of some kind every year. One of the staff members who is required to attend all thesis and capstone project presentations every year is deathly-afraid of spiders, so he enjoys watching her squirm nearly every year when the inevitable spider pictures get thrown up onto the projector :p

Ah, I'm still undergrad so I don't even get to do the cool projects. I just do funky stuff with turnstile symbols, maths, and Austrians.

EDIT: I'm also wildly off-topic, so I should probably return to talking about the wimminz.

Can I ask you guys something? Is this an incorrect view:

I personally don't do one night stands or have casual sex, so I wouldn't want a partner who does either.

The slant of these articles....

"You think women are all sexless cold fish??... think again!"

No I don't think that, and I never did.

My impression has always been that most women only want sex with a relatively small percentage of highly attractive males. In contrast, most men wouldn't turn their nose up at any ordinary woman. Unless "turn their nose up" is a sex thing. I have no evidence whatsoever for this theory.

Not at all. You do what you want and you have your opinions and feelings about a matter.

I feel the same way, there is nothing safe about one night stands or sex between two people who know next to nothing about the other person but if that's what gets people happy then good for them.

I remember an OkCupid thing that showed women thought most men were ugly (the curve was heavily slanted towards the most attractive men) while men had a more balanced curve (more women were considered average, with few super hot/ugly ones).

It was pretty interesting.

As long as you are not insinuating that you are morally superior to those that do, I don't see the problem. It is important to find partners with similar values.

Duh. If you were able to orgasm 4 or 5 times in twenty minutes wouldn't your drive be higher?

women want sex as much as guys? That's not that revolutionary. Women have more sexual endurance and may want sex more than men? That's not that intimidating. I guess the amount of control over their sexual desire or even the stunting or repression of that desire is something men would have a hard time relating to. Or is that true at all?

It seems, generally speaking, that both sides repress desires, have trouble dealing with the expectations of their surrounding cultures pertaining to sex, have no idea what the other is thinking, has conflicting issues with their own thoughts, and both sides could do so much better if they would just open up. Spill.

We've got 800 years of men in collars and women in floppy hats to deal with.

That article almost reads like it's saying women aren't being allowed to express their desire in public. There's an inequality in the consequences of sex and even encounter attempts, yes. But if you have environments where you can minimize the actual physical dangers, how would that affect the dynamic? New dangers arise? Things would just blast off into the stratosphere? What?

vv: slaves to their passions and unable to control their libidos, sure. that's an oldie. but they would say the same for men too, but for violence and sex. Whereas women were believed to have a thing for deceit and sex. I guess some women developed fast talking in order to avoid all that free flowing male violence?

Isn't the idea of women having a lower sex drive then men a relatively new concept in "the West"? Wasn't the whole "women are slaves to their libido" thing a nasty stereotype for centuries?
