Lets talk about what the trailer could be.
Do you guys think they will do it like Melee and make it the opening that is revealed as a trailer or do you think they'll do it like Brawl's trailer where it was more like a trailer showing off some gameplay, characters, and newcomers?

Since the game's only been in post-production for a year I doubt we'll get an announcement trailer like Melee's which shows off the entire opening and starting roster, especially since I think SSB4 will be next year's 'big' title.
Though since Brawl was only in development for about 5 months when it was revealed (whereas this as has roughly a year of post-production and was already in the planning stages back in early '11) I wouldn't be surprised if we saw more characters than Brawl's announcement had.
Maybe the original 8 with a couple more vets (Falcon, Ness, Pit, Wario?) with another 4/5 newcomers. Dojo kicks off next month and leads right up until the end of 2014.

Setting low expectations is good, but it's a lock that they'll show newcomers.
I'm guessing something similar to the Brawl trailer, maybe more since this title would probably have had more work done than Brawl did at the time of its reveal. For Melee, the game was released in the same year the trailer was shown. I'm hoping we get at least 5 newcomers. If the new smash does increase the count to 5 players, watch it be Luigi who walks in.

I am sort of now half-expecting Luigi to be in the SSB4 trailer simply due to it being the Year of Luigi. Either way by now the original cast

Ideally 3rd party's won't get 2nd reps ahead of any Nintendo franchises who need some, but I'd definitely prefer the good doctor over another hedgehog color if Sonic HAD to get another playable character.

Honestly, I don't understand why some of you expect so little. Even if everything happened as you "expected," if you mentally decide that the worst possible outcome were to happen, you'd still be disappointed if the worst actually happened. What I mean to say is that expecting the worst doesn't protect you from being disappointed by it.
Anyway, I'd like a mix of Melee and Brawl's reveals. I'd actually like a few CG scenes. The first twenty seconds of the Melee opening is amazing. Seeing Link's sword smash the ground as Mario comes to life was incredible, and then having Kirby and Pikachu rush in to fight was just icing on the cake. Having gameplay scenes mixed in would be ideal, and Melee's reveal essentially had this anyway.
I do like how Brawl's reveal almost told a "story," though. As in, MetaKnight drops in before being attacked by Pit, and the battle is interrupted by Zero Suit Samus.

2011 and 2012's E3 conferences have conditioned us to expect the worst when it comes to exciting reveals, it's not really our fault for being so pessimistic.

I really hope they don't drip feed us no-brainer veterans like Yoshi and shit like they did with Brawl.
And Captain Falcon really needs to go back to being a starting character, just so he can be on in every other Dojo screenshot.

In my dream, I would love to have Melee's E3 reveal where they would release SSB4's Intro and following by gameplay and characters. Intro would be so beautiful as melee and brawl combined and Sakurai would popped out of no where and announcing Dojo coming to us in couple of weeks. They would reveal only two newcomer and many returning characters.
Sakurai would bend over and explained that he would like to save a lot of newcomers for secret characters for surprise values, following by his mischievously grin.
Out of Nintendo Direct, He would proceed to explain connectivity between 3DS and Wii U and modes to Press Event. That's it.
I'd like to see Paper Mario as a character.
He could use his glorious hammer...

I really have no clue why Falcon was made a secret again in Brawl. Maybe just so he fitted in with Ness also being made a secret (which made more sense I guess due to Lucas?)
Also the drip-feeding of obvious information was probably due to just how early into Brawl's development the game was revealed. Even by the time Dojo launched Sakurai could probably tell delays into '08 were going to happen and wanted to slowly pad things out so they didn't want to blow their wad in terms of new characters nearly a year before it'd come out worldwide.
Weren't Sheik and Olimar only shown off something like a month before the Japanese release?
Yeah but the other SSB games lack enough villain. Sure we have Ganondorf, Bowser King Dedede but I want more. Eggman would fit the bill very easily and I hope that Sonic is in the game too
I see eggy more as a boss really. He fights in giant mechanical contraptions most of the time, a poketype.

Yeah, I didn't play Sticker Star but I heard it was nothing to write home about. Still, I guess they would try to give him some special moves taken from each of his game, so I came up with this sticker thing. But using partners would be awesome and, overall, better (we need to see more of Madame Flurrie). Maybe they could appear as assist trophies ?

I could see Paper Mario working as a great character, using his hammer and the different partners from the original & TTYD. Yarn Kirby would be neat to see (or at the least as a stage), though I don't know if they could make him unique enough. Maybe use the different transformations and such?
