Sony E3 2013 Conference

As much as I want Dead Rising 3 and whatever games for the XBone, that console ain't gonna take a fucking step into my house so they might as well be dead. Not to mention it's an exercise in how many rights it can rob from the consumer. In that context, the games don't really mean much to me.

To be honest, I don't really think there is any stand out game on the Xbone that I want. I'll still purchase a PS4. It has a good set of titles. Though Quantum Break and Insomniac's new shooter looks pretty cool I guess. What exactly are the exclusive Xbone games Microsoft actually announced?

Off the top of my head.

-Ryse
-Dead Rising 3
-Forza
-Sunset Overdrive, w/e that is
-D4
-Crimson Dragon
-Some other indie stuff
-Halo 5

I'm not into console shooters or driving games so there aren't a lot of reasons to get an XBone for me.

Their no-DRM and price announcement saved the otherwise bad show. Reminds me in a way of that MS conference where FF13 happened.

Yes, it sucked. It was a complete and utter borefest. Ubisoft, EA and Microsoft all had better conferences. Sony's just dragged with on with talking drones.

Also, there were barely any exclusive games. I had AT LEAST hoped for The Last Guardian.

There's kinda *no* exclusive games, not really. Even Titanfall is going PC. Witcher and MGS5 sure as hell aren't staying on the minority system for Europe and Japan.

The only real metric we got the vs these guys are on the hardware, at least until the first parties start checking in (TGS probably)

And man, on hardware Sony sure does kill it up and down. I can see why people are saying this generation is almost over before it starts.

I'm buying a PS4, and I have no interest in buying an XBO, but the conference was straight up horrible. So much boring stuff, and outside of SE's five minutes, they had nothing that looked interesting to me. The Division alone blew everything they had away. I'm glad it's a good price, I'm glad they didn't do the DRM stuff, but man, what a shit show.

How are they able to position a console with those specs a a hundred cheaper than Xbone?

This is probably the trade off for charging for online play.

Anyways, I thought they had a great conference. They showed off a lot of games on all tiers of development, showed support and appreciation for their current and past successes with the PS3 & PSV, showed what the PS4 could do (personally, I loved Destiny, Second Son, XV & the Quantic Dream tech demo), dropped some megatons (Square redeemed) and kept it consumer friendly. They proved (to me, at least) that they are a great company for this industry.

Also, EA had a solid conference. I don't know what the fuck Ubisoft was doing but luck was not on their side today (shitty presser, glitchy ACIVBF demo). Microsoft was solid up until that price. BTW, enjoy making sure you don't get outsold 3-1, Mr. Ballmer.

Also, I realized that GAF can be annoyingly cynical sometimes. Seems like nobody is happy unless they see a nostalgic JRPG title fresh outta development hell...

In retrospect, the launch lineup of the system looks rather weak and there was a baffling lack of output from some of Sony's bigger studios...

Additionally, the sleight of hand they pulled with the paywell mention was a little sleazy...

But I will say that Sony did well with making Microsoft live down their terrible policies and even undercut them on price (with a better-spec'd system to boot).

So, all in all, it was a good show, but not necessarily an amazing one.
You think so?

I think the launch line-up is really good. Knack, Killzone, Drive Club at launch, then Infamous within the first few months. There are plenty of third parties too. Personally, Knack and Infamous are two games I really want to play.

Sony held a lot back today in terms of titles because they didn't need to show off everything and anything possible to try and shake-off a negative impression. Their first year line-up is pretty killer. Bear in mind, you only know what's coming in the first few months from them, not what's coming in the second half of the year.

Conference sucked and that's coming from someone who is most likely to buy a PS4 this Fall.

+ Square Enix stuff, although I don't personaly care about KH and it doesn't seem it's a lock that 15 and KH are exclusives.
+ Great pricepoint.
+ No DRM.

= The Order did not look exciting and I really don't care about one hour exclusive content from various games.

- Plus needed for multiplayer. This is terrible.
- No new games aside from The Order. Nothing from SSM, ND, no new GG IP and no Demon's Souls 2 some have teased. Basically, no new 1st party IPs aside from The Order which doesn't look interesting to me.

5/10 due to pricing and used game policies. But where are the games, Sony?

After making this, I realize it's probably going to get a lot of use.

So wait till gamescon to get the Q1 and Q2 titles and VGAs to start teasing the big holiday 2014 title?

Was rather disappointed in Sony's show. The presentation had no coherent or overarching vision for the platform. We didn't see the OS or online network in action. Why didnt they show us how great the new Share button will be for games ? We caught an awkward glimpse at the hardware, we got new looks at already demoed/announced titles (Watch Dogs did look great) and an inordinate amount of time was spent on current generation hardware. If you are going to spend time on Vita integration why not show us a demo of the great benefits this would offer potential buyers? Microsoft's conference (both of them actually) demonstrates an actual vision for the platform and also provided a live demo of the OS in action, and how Kinect integration can improve the experience. And ending the conference with a very sleazy announcement about PS+ being required for online gaming? I hope Sony has their shit together re: online because Microsoft smokes then right now in terms of integration XBL with the platform

I did think Destiny looked wonderful but again it is not exclusive to the platform. Sony looked unprepared for this reveal. It was odd.

I have some catching up to do but The Verge is reporting that PS Plus is now $9.99 a month.

Why are they saying this and made screencaps that show the standard price (= <5$ / month if you buy the 12 month PS+ option)

A85mL6dl.jpg

edit: yeah, must mean if you pay for a single month / 3 months.

but I'm hoping now for a another 12+3 extra months offer, then I will stack up for 1-2 more years or so :p

Bestbuy has a year for $40 right now, if you sign up for their free reward zone card.

So, was The Order: 1886 Santa Monica's big game, or can we expect another new reveal? I assumed that SM & Ready At Dawn were each working on a new IP, and I'll be disappointed if it's not the case.

I was just going to ask this. GameTrailers said they were world premiering SCE Santa Monica's new IP today.. I hope it just isn't their production of Ready At Dawn's game.

Which also... I hope The Order is NOT an FPS.

knack and killzone look like cookie cutter stuff. sony didn't do a good job showing exclusives in this conference and the online paywall thing is a bit annoying (but almost expected at this point)

but it still managed to impress me. infamous second son looks great. the rest of their exclusives.....uhhh yeah the next conferences this year better show some shit.

5/10.

They did everything they had to do (focusing on games) but very few games stood out. Would have loved to see something from Naughty Dog, Media Molecule or Sony Japan (The Last Guardian or something new). Also, too few real gameplay fragments for their own titles. Would have loved a bit of The Witness instead of another Quantic Dream technical showpiece. Knack, Killzone, inFamous and Driveclub didn't make a big impression with the trailers they had.

Also, i guess i'm the only one on this, but i would have wished if they had announced the non-DRM in another way. It came over to me as a bit arrogant for some strange reason. But then again, that's doing business i guess :)

The most interesting thing for me was the indie part.

I get the feeling it's going to be a TPS. Hopefully it's broader than just a straight shooter though, and has exploration, tactical options and a wider environment than typical shooters this gen.

Yeah. Stig's team (GOW III) hasn't shown their game yet. Santa Monica helps a lot of studios.

Awesome stuff. If it's a really big SM new game, you would wonder why they didn't give it the first showing at the main conference?

The only thing I am disappointed by is the PS4 design. The Xbox One will probably have a MUCH larger fan, meaning a much quieter fan.

The fact that The Xbone has a much lrger fan means that they weren't able to solve the power problem as well as the heat problem.

Something that is not an issue on WiiU or PS4.

Also large fan doesn't mean quieter in all cases.

Lol. Golden, DemonNite, golden.

Btw, I read that Sony said TLG is still a thing, but do you know why it wasn't shown at their conference then?

either gamescom or tgs I guess.

my wild guess is on gamescom they'll focus on more 1st party title, ps eye camera and casual games as well as some vita games.

on tgs will be all the japanese ps4 games as well as vita games, as well as launch detail for japan region.

The PS4 and X1 both use relatively well known parts with pretty much the same architecture, I can't imagine the RAM being a big source of heating issue. Considering that the PS4 gpu is stronger as well, I can't imagine having the ps4 having lower power/heat. It could be the X1 is doing some overclocking.

The conference did suck up until the end which they masterfully saved for last, great trolling by Sony. Up until the DRM and price points, it was shaping up to be the worst conference of the day. Vita, indie, and non stop multiplatform games. Maybe it's because I don't care for FFXVIIXVIIIione!, but it was really a boring conference until the end. As a PC gamer though, if they can start to show more exclusive IPs Sony could definitely get me to buy a PS4, perhaps even day 1.

And as a big Bungie fan, Destiny was so meh =/ I even found Titanfall more intriguing than Destiny...

Sony delivered the best message of the conferences, with regard to the policy discussion and price point - this portion of the show was outstanding. Other then that 10minute portion the conference was ok.

The unfortunate consequence of going last is that some of the 3rd party games that were shown at there show, were already shown just a few hours earlier. I think Sony spent way to much time showing titles that have already been shown multiple times.

It was nice to see continued support for PS3 and Vita, but that was not where my interests laid, I wanted PS4 games. In this case, it took 45-50 to get our first glimpse of a PS4 game. Then is was Sony's turn to talk about TV, Sports, and media - I was actually surprised by this hot off the heels of the xbox one reveal.

It was great to finally see Destiny gameplay, and it was neat to see all the indies on stage. The Order, Final Fantasy, and Kingdom Hearts are exciting announcements, but not games I am interested.

Overall though, people will forget about the mundane portion of the show, and focus on the knock-out message Sony delivered, which I'm sure is fine with Sony.

I started watching late and had to leave early, but from what I did see last night, they did a great job. The games shown looked awesome for the most part, though Watch Dogs did underwhelm a bit.

I'm mostly disappointed that I had to miss the Destiny demo since I had to leave right before they talked about their DRM plans. Love how they were taking jabs at MS about the DRM and it was clear the reaction to both the price and DRM news was hugely positive.

A more powerful console, that I can play offline, for $100 cheaper? Sign me up!

Overall they put on a great show I think. Oh and also that trailer for Beyond really had me pumped!

watched the conference live last night. preordered PS4 this morning.

sony had more or less won me over, but this conference put the nail in the coffin.
