Kingdom Hearts III Announced for PS4

Leaving aside the fact that KH is an awful, awful series, i doubt it's anything but a placeholder trailer not indicative of anything (i'm surprised it wasn't all CG!) for a game that won't come out before 2020.

In what way is Kingdom Hearts awful? You do realize each Kingdom Hearts has at least offered up something new and compelling in terms of gameplay, visuals, and music right? Most of the games are critically acclaimed and sell well so it's pretty clear your opinion is factually wrong. Also, the footage that we saw was indicative of the art style, a returning world, possible gameplay mechanics, and how many enemies might be on screen at one time. You should maybe watch the trailer teaser again.

I wouldn't say it won't be exclusive yet, even with that wording. Like many said, they just doesn't want to lock an oportunit. Yeah, they could announce as an exclusive and change that latter, if it was the case, but why would day. That would just generate more "Square Enix just shoot them on the foot...".

The game looks amazing. I was always afraid how a brand new KH game would look on HD consoles, but that putted me at ease. Hopefully they can release it in 2015(JP)/2016(NA), 10 years after KH2 first release.

I really wanna see the reactions of people who skipped all the handheld titles when they play this one. Hopefully most of them will pick the remasters, but the ones who don't will be interesting to watch.

Wow, the opinion of who has no arguments. You should play games like Call of duty, Dragon Age and Skyrim, they sell so well and are critically acclaimed like KH!

Probably, since Sora's still using his clothes from KH2 and we know that Nomura will come up with an even crazier design. Sora will be older. He'll need more zippers and belts.

Excellent job of only looking at one point I made. Has BioWare hired you yet?

^Nomura designs, are you surprised?

KH isn't everyone's cup of tea but keep in mind many who played it were probably 12-18 when they first got into it, so it holds a special spot in their hearts. Not to mention the first game was pretty good in both story and gameplay. The story has progressively gotten worse (just an opinion) due to the spin offs, but the core games KHI, II, BbS have been very good all round.

The tease was just a tech demo. People expecting this so soon are going to be really upset. "Now in development" is a pretty good way of saying "Be patient".

was this trailer CG, actual gameplay they put together or what? need to know. hope they didn't spend 6 months to make it though lol.

This game has what, at least 2 years to come out? I doubt they have been working on it for very long. I guess after DDD ended?

"Now in development" instead of "Coming soon."

Knowing Square Enix, I bet all they've got in the pipe is that video we saw.

Yeah, i'm definitely a Bioware fan, you sure got me told!

Guess it's not the game for you, not as good as the shitty anime you watch.

To be fair, you don't know what shitty anime i watch, not to mention that they probably have a better constructed plot than anything Versus XIII writers have come up/will come up in their life.

I think KH and FFXV are the beginning of a second golden age for SE. At least on the console side of things. They did pretty well on handhelds.
Why? It's not like Nomura is going to be directing every SE game from now on. These two will come out, be amazing, then we'll wait for his next thing, and it'll take forever.

That one two punch of Versus (well, XV) and KHIII was dirty as FUCK.

Legit megaton moment. First time Square has excited me in YEARS.

Did SE run over your dog or something?

There needs to be NPCs. People in these worlds. The last couple of KH games have felt empty in that regards. I don't care if thet double the size, just have people that can be talked to
The thing is, KH's world are populated by the enemies that have devoured the people. It's more like a hack 'n slash like Diablo where you go out of a small village and all that's in the wild are monsters, not just people hanging around. There can perhaps be parts/towns that have some people, but otherwise is like a more whimsical, colourful Disney version of hack 'n slash games.

I see that this generation has left you pessimistic. That's fine, and understandable. But we have to believe in Nomurasus. He is going to lead us to the promise land.

If Versus turns out to be as great as it appeared to be, we might be in for sequels a la 13. Also, more surprised are supposed to be shown by SE today. Hopefully they are as good or at least as promising.

Well, Nomura still has to finish XV before he can fully focus on KH3. KH3 is probably 3-4 years away.

Does he though? I'm not saying he doesn't btw, just that KH3 could follow the newer development pipeline that KH games post-KH2 followed. With KH and KH2, there was no co-director doing the heavy lifting with him, so his attention was always focused 100% on directing a single game at a time. But that's not how the KH games work anymore. If the Osaka team is developing this, it could well be developed in parallel with whatever project(s) Nomura also handles in Tokyo, like with KH BbS and KH3D.

He has been involved with, what, 4 KH games while XV has been in development. He trusts Osaka team to know what they are doing. He's had the story down for a long time now, so he can mostly let the co-director do the job until he can help with it after XV is done. I'd say a schedule of KH1.5 HD in 2013, KH2.5 HD in 2014 and KHIII in 2015 isn't too far-fetched.

Osaka has pretty much adopted the series at this point. They might as well continue on. I'm guessing KH3 will be out in Japan by 2015.

The reveal looked rough you could tell it is very early in development, I take it they ain't going for the realistic cg graphics in this game and staying true to the cartoon look.

Mhm and it will sell millions. My heart cant take it

Let me tweet Hikaru to come back tbh

They HAVE to bring her back and PAY HA coins so she can write a new song for this series

Let's not be premature. They have plenty of time to screw up, and considering their new mobile push proposal, they probably will. Still hoping for the best though.

The only concern I have with regards to KH3 is the placeholder (?) UI shown in the teaser:

7FNhaiB.jpg

Now, this could just be a completely braindead mockup, and it might mean nothing, and hence there is no cause for any concern. That's possible. But since there are no details, and they chose to specifically show this "gameplay" sequence to us, I reckon at least some thought went into making it even if it's just a target render. This is the KH1/KH2 style menu. It has attack/magic/item as different menu options. There is no command charge bar above the menu, there is no command deck. Those who are familiar with the recent entries of KH will understand why I find this worrying. :)

I'm going to need her to deliver us another JPOP masterpiece for KH3. I refuse to hear Hikari or Passion in this game.

sis i think they literally just copy and pasted the KH1/2 hub on it lol. Just a concept obviously :p it'll probably be a hybrid of the new system from the other games

You're definitely right. If this is another co-director KH then it would be out much sooner than 3-4 years. I just figured that Nomura would want full control since this will be the first numbered KH since 05. Expectations will be sky high for it.

Who is developing this? The og KH team or the bbs team? I doubt theyll go back to the old combat system at this point.

It's not a copy though. It's an original menu design. If they were going to go to the trouble of mocking one up, it's curious that they based it on the old menu design.

Well, if we're to go by that ...tech demo... Goofy and Donald should have been on screen somewhere, too.

As awesome as BBS and 3D are, I also really enjoyed Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2's setup as well. If they balance the game closer to KH 2 Final Mix+ then I'm okay if Nomura goes back to it's systems.

I was thinking this, and am hoping it is just because it is a placeholder to get the point across.
... Really all I want is another system like Birth by Sleep, which the command deck system I certainly preferred over DDD (in regards to getting commands).
