Ah yeah, that makes sense. Wouldn't explain its sudden disappearing though. Or it really is supposed to represent tears and it was just symbolic/not real.Eye paint to keep the sun out of her eyes, like the kind that (American) football or baseball players use. Cuts down glare.
Could also be a double meaning to convey pain. (running makeup from tears)
I think the bottom line for the Phantom Pain theme is Big Boss and others will remember when they had a soul, or rather a part of themselves that didn't justify and participate in horrible shit. The deepest phantom pain will be the feeling of having a soul when you don't actually have one anymore.

I like how basically everyone in the game seems to get tortured, with a black bag on their heads.
That bikini woman, that Otacon dude, etc..
from that trailer u r big boss and this is sequel to mgs3?
and I'm guessing this could lead to Metal Gear for NES
A sequel to Peace Walker.
PROJECT GOREHoly shit that extended beginning
gory as hell
I want to see how shitty the PS3 version looks lol
It may not matter much but I just have to get this out there. I'm sorry Kojima and I'm sorry Kiefer. I was wrong to get all butthurt over the voice thing. I couldn't see Hayter's voice in this, the tone is definitely much much different than in the past.
Now on to trailer stuff. Has anyone else noticed that at around 5:24 when he's smoking the cigar at night it looks odd? Like the cigar isn't a cigar at all, and almost electronic? With their eye for detail this can't just be a mistake. Also I can't imagine this hasn't been brought up already but the way they go out of their way to show the shrapnel, where it hit, and how far it hit seems to be pointing towards a frontal lobe injury being partially an explanation for Snake's shift in character.

Great trailer, awful voice acting (by today's standards).
How long until we get a release window? Not talking an exact date, but at least a year and preferably a quarter. I'm thinking some time in 2014.
Is Kaz missing his left eye or both eyes? Even when the sunglasses are put on him his left eye stays completely closed. It also appears that Kaz wasn't sleeping, Big Boss immediately grabs his face and converses with him. If Kaz isn't sleeping, why didn't he call out to Big Boss when he entered the room?
Holy shit that was Paz?! Goddamn. You mean into Paz's gut. She's a girl. It's kind of why the shirt was still buttoned up over the chest.

Troy Baker 4 Snake.
Might have kept him in a dark place for a long time
Snake isn't the problem. The rest of the cast sounds like they are still stuck in MGS1.
Games like Mass Effect and Uncharted have raised the bar, Konami needs to step up.
That CQC double kill....How I am supposed to play stealth if the guns do that and sound like that?
And the animation on Snake's scramble from prone to crouch is amazing. That and the sideways dive are the best parts of this trailer.
.So good...
Troy Baker 4 Snake.
True, but his left eye looks really hollow. Also Big Boss gets to him at night, and puts sunglasses on him, light sensitivity could still effect him but there's a lot of darkness when he's being rescued.

The sunglasses are more for "Hey, you're Kaz, get up", seeing as they are his signature look. When Kaz puts on the glasses he re-assumes he calm demeanor.
It's the most mature and serious MGS yet.
mature and serious MGS
mature
serious

I know that, Big boss was trying to make him feel comfortable. It's also a way for him to show that he really is Big Boss, that he knows Kaz has a pair of sunglasses he really likes. A way of identification.
I do think Kaz is missing an eye or both eyes.
I expect taking over bases or areas will be easier than before, I mean you can get in and command a tank/APC. Saving Kaz by taking a tank and driving it across the desert destroying anything in your way will be amazing. Controlling a Metal Gear and speeding across a desert or any landscape would be mindblowing.
I also expect weapon customization for your own arsenal. I'd probably rock a silenced AK and Colt 1911.

I can't imagine Kaz being entirely blind.
Kaz losing his left eye, and becoming a mirror of Big Boss (he loses the opposite arm Big Boss does) seems quite likely, however. A 'Dark Boss'.
I swore off this series after the horrendous, wretched MGS4......but this looks so goddamn fucking insanely wacky that I don't think I can resist it
