The MGS universe is confusing to me. I never finished 4, but was so lost. And how many Snakes are there supposed to be?

Two Snakes that look the same. Solid Snake and young Naked Snake (who is also known as Big Boss).

Solid Snake is the clone of Big Boss. Big Boss also has two other clones (Liquid and Solidus), and these are Solid Snake's "brothers."

Liquid Snake doesn't look anything really like the others. There are resemblances, but it's not like he looks like a copy.

Solidus Snake doesn't look the others, but does look like Big Boss as he gets older. Solidus Snake is also known as the 43rd President of the United States of America, George Sears.

(Potential story context synopsis)
Big Boss is sent out to rescue Chico, and Paz. He gets to Camp Omega, infiltrates the base, gets to Chico. Chico reveals that he gave Skull Face details about Mother Base (earning the cassette player, playing the traitor) , and Big Boss loses his shit, and begins to choke him. Boss recognizes that decorated war hero's don't CQC children to death, and relents. He rescues Chico and further infiltrates, rescuing Paz. Boss brings her and Chico back to Mother Base, where Paz begins to convulse. They try to operate and find the 'Peace' package, which is followed by an attack on Mother Base by Skull Face. Mother Base's occupants are killed, and Mother Base falls into the ocean. Kaz and Big Boss escape in a helicopter, with Big Boss distraught at the carnage. Perhaps the helicopter is shot down, but events occur that leave Big Boss in a coma. He wakes up after 9 years, and 'Ishmael' (a projection of his mind) leads him outside of the complex. Ocelot helps Big Boss escape when he crashes an ambulance, and after a period of time takes him to Afghanistan where Kaz is held captive. Kaz has, perhaps, been interrogated for the entirety of those 9 years, loosing limbs in the process. Big Boss rescues Kaz, and along with Ocelot they exact revenge of Cipher.

Yup. I'll be very surprised if this isn't very close to the series of events. Good guess work.

this show is not Breaking Bad why is it not Breaking Bad? it should be Breaking Bad dammit Breaking Bad
You'll realize that these children are being captured to be child soldiers, mercenaries, secret agents, and Boss

will revolt against that, and will go against Foxhound, which will spin it on Solid so he fights him.

I don't think he can "handle it" in a serious way either, but it's not the first taboo he faces, since MGS has always been about war, you had genocide and other shit all throughout the series, i think this time it'll just be more graphical and crude, and that's what he was worried about.

yeah i hear you. that scene when they were diving into the dude's guts was pretty nasty.

dat music though. kojima still knows how to cut a hot trailer.

I don't think it's destroyed when he's gone, looks like the Paz thing will be a prelude to the attack.

They're a bit quiet on dates atm.

In the GDC trailer, we can see Snake arriving at the base in a chopper while it's getting blown up. So it's safe to say that it's in the middle of getting destroyed while he's still wherever Chico and Paz are, when Kaz or whoever calls him to let him know that shit is going down.

Maybe it's just me but Ocelot sounds a whole lot like Sutherland doing a raspy voice

Anyway, looks like I better play through Peace Walker before I get this one

This looks amazing. Wow the beginning of this trailer. Disturbing to say the least. Interested to see narratively where the story takes it.

Yeah, short hair might fool people. Her design has changed completely. Don't know if they facial scanned someone or what.

Same with Huey, completely different designs. But in Huey's case, I'm liking the change. His PW design was hilariously lazy, they just took Otacon and gave him longer hair and different glasses.

I think the reason reason that Quiet is semi-nude is because her skin can act as camouflage. There is a camouflage like pattern on her face that suddenly disappears as she looks into the camera at 6:35 into the new trailer.

Trailer looks amazing!

Is there any news on the differences between the current gen versions and next gen versions? It was originally made for current gen, right?

Why are the next-gen versions still using that hideous pseudo-transparency? Fix this shit Guerrilla.

Looks great otherwise, and I'm eager to see just how it actually looks on PS360, for the lulz.

I absolutely love all the metaphors that Kojima works into his games and trailers, adds so much flavor. I'm probably not the only who noticed this, but "Punished Snake" is clearly a reference to the Adam and Eve story, where God punished the snake for tempting Adam and Eve by taking away his limbs.

Snake has lost his arm, Miller also loses arm and leg. Also, Ocelote's code name in MGS3 was Adam and Eva's was Eve. THE CONNECTIONS!

Wait, that's Paz who has the bomb in her stomach? Her relationship with Big Boss sure has developed, use to amount to really weird fan service dates on the beach.

How the fuck does this game look so damn good?? I'm watching it in 1080p and with full screen on youtube.

Seriously dithering don't even bothers me when i see the game in motion. Everything looks so clean and crisp. Also the seamless transition from cutscene to gameplay. Fuck.

KojiPro are damn wizards!

From what I remember also, Solid Snake was made from all the recessive genes of BB. Liquid was all the dominant genes, and Solidus was a perfect clone gene wise of BB. However Liquid was told he was from the recessive genes, and told Solid Snake he was created from the dominant ones.

On the subject of MGS5, this looks far darker than anything to date. Kojima wasn't exaggerating when he said he could cover taboo themes!
The only thing that bothers me is 'tech creep'. I.e. what happens in this seems barely different from MGS1, which is set 20 years later than the main portion of MGS5.

I think the bottom line for the Phantom Pain theme is Big Boss and others will remember when they had a soul, or rather a part of themselves that didn't justify and participate in horrible shit. The deepest phantom pain will be the feeling of having a soul when you don't actually have one anymore.

That looks fantastic. Trailer of the show! Seems to be expanding on the parts of 4 I liked best (first two levels, and being open world, hopefully eliminating the infinite spawn points), the stealth on the battlefield stuff.

Eh when i read some comments on youtube i see a few people who really think the fast forward stuff is in the game :lol

*facepalm*

Any idea what that black stuff on her face could be?

btw. I can already hear Anita getting upset because of Quiet's outfit.

Eye paint to keep the sun out of her eyes, like the kind that (American) football or baseball players use. Cuts down glare.

Could also be a double meaning to convey pain. (running makeup from tears)

It may not matter much but I just have to get this out there. I'm sorry Kojima and I'm sorry Kiefer. I was wrong to get all butthurt over the voice thing. I couldn't see Hayter's voice in this, the tone is definitely much much different than in the past.
Now on to trailer stuff. Has anyone else noticed that at around 5:24 when he's smoking the cigar at night it looks odd? Like the cigar isn't a cigar at all, and almost electronic? With their eye for detail this can't just be a mistake. Also I can't imagine this hasn't been brought up already but the way they go out of their way to show the shrapnel, where it hit, and how far it hit seems to be pointing towards a frontal lobe injury being partially an explanation for Snake's shift in character.

According to the podcast, it is a bomb indeed.

Maybe skull face put the bomb inside her and wanted to kill Snake.

I mean in the GZ trailer Big Boss was on a mission to save Chico and Paz. Who knows what this bastard has done to them poor kids.
