Lightning Returns Final Fantasy 13 E3 2013 Gameplay Demo

Looks decent enough for me. Since I enjoyed the gameplay of the first two episodes, I am gonna go for this one (with Lightning alone I hope they increase the amount of gameplay). Music seems to be as nice as the other two episodes too. Story is probably gonna be a clusterfuck meh as usual but I won't mind.

So i little late for my driving lessons just to be sure u saw this

http://www.novacrystallis.com/2013/06/tetsuya-nomura-to-attend-e3-this-year/

sorry bout topic but ff stuff

While Nomura will be attending for Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 ReMIX promotion, he explains there is “certain information to be announced at E3″ which he can’t talk about at this moment. He goes on to say “however, I feel like everyone knows what this information will be anyway.”

I always say i'm gonna go back and finish 13... but the game keeps on pushing me away. Such a pretty pretty thing with words that makes no sense and are hard to remember, with characters that I just despise.

combat was aight. Having only control of one guy and stances feels weird and pointless, like how I could never get into Persona 3.

After a LONG break from the game, I powered through XIII before XIII-2 came out, and was oddly happy with doing so. For me, XIII-2 felt much more like the kind of game I wanted to play (with a much more enjoyable battle system), but I was happy to have the knowledge of the characters, and their fates, from XIII to make playing it even more effective.

Thanks! That makes a lot of sense. Not really interested in the MMORPG's, so other that that, do any of the others have similar game play mechanics to VII? What I enjoyed the most was the hunting for those little balls and upgrading my stuffs.
VI, VIII, IX, X-2, and XII have similarly "collectible" based progression systems to different extents. IX is probably the most similar but still pretty different; you learn abilities from equipment but the characters have set roles and abilities to learn. VI, VIII, and X-2 upgrades come in bigger, often times story related chunks; VI and VIII's are more customizable and abusable while X-2's is more simple and streamlined. XII has a sort of different battle system and the character progression is kind of convoluted-ly tied to found and bought upgrades that have to be matched by spending level up points in a menu.

They're all pretty solid games, though, IV (pretty simple but fun baseline for the battle system used for most of the series after it), V (wonderful class based progression), and X (more turn-based with some neat customization later on) included.
Don't care much for the game, but that music is pretty hyping!
Love me some Mizuta. Probably the best thing that happened to FFXIII.

Love the music.

I kinda already want them to re-release this trilogy for the next gen consoles. The framerate looked better than what I saw in an earlier video, but this still looks worse than FFXIII from what I've seen so far.

I absolutely loved FFXIII-2 except that it really needed a lot more content and challenge. Looking forward to this, I think. The combat system in XIII / XIII-2 is probably my favorite to date in a JRPG so I'm a little concerned about how this will play.

showing footage of random jumping and running around with quick cuts of battle where you can't really see how it plays poorly edited together, it's not even trying. Videos like this are advertisements like it or not and this one I don't think it's doing a good job of conveying anything to be excited about. You can find exciting looking footage of some bad games out there even, this one doesn't even try. Like it was said the focus of the game is open world, time changing and etc right? the game is out in 5 months, why show these bad platforming instead of those things?

I see what you are saying but again, this is just a quick video of a demo we won't be able to play. It's not meant to sell the game but rather give players an idea of what the game involves.

The game runs better in this video in comparison to the one we got before it, framerate doesn't look as terrible. Hopefully they'll polish the game up further. Despite feeling disappointed about certain aspects (framerate, empty and fairly bad looking environments, story looks more silly), I'm still very excited for the battle system, atmosphere and experiencing new content. Definitely day 1.

No shadows? What year is it? 1999?

Yea its so weird.

Its like when you run a PC game and the GPU cant take it at first I lower shadows or turn char shadows off.
Its like they went "OMG FIX THE FRAMERATE!" "Just turn off character shadows!"
I hope they can add it in. I mean 2-3 chars on screen cant have shadows, even low mapped ones??

Nothing in the FFXIII universe makes sense anymore, even within the context of itself.

Lightning Returns and all the shit i've seen of it as of yet only makes the problem 10 times worse.

What's the masterpiece of LR? Trailer was meh.

Bring on Versus and KH3.

EDIT: @Jarmel - yeah that, or let it stay in the oven.

Yeah that's what I was wondering actually. I am sure some of the Lightning fanbase is excited if that's true. Maybe you can pick what she calls you, like 'master'.

You want Lightning to call you Master? You can buy Shin Megami Tensei IV if you want that.

Obvious cheap cash in.
Wouldn't waste my time even if I were a XIII fan.

Wow the graphics are so good, nothing close to that shitty sequel of XIII-2. I'm surprised this game being so close to XIII while also showcasing new tech applied to the crystal tools. Plus the art design of that location is really cool...
the game sounds, looks and plays like a modern final fantasy should be. HYPED.

Yeah, keep telling yourself that.

While I like this new girl's look, she has the WORST voice ever, soooo grating and I just can't stand it. Otherwise...the trailer wasn't really impressive, it didn't show me much, just gameplay I could mistake for XIII and drab looking areas...errr yea...still not buying until it's used and dirt cheap

This stuff isn't even subjective. Are you looking at the same game?

IGN said:
The strategy and energy contained within the battle system is undeniable. Lightning Returns features some of the most refreshing and entertaining RPG combat I’ve experienced in years, and though it might turn off some Final Fantasy purists, I’m convinced that Square has tapped into something very interesting here.

[...] Somehow, in shaving down the number of party members to one, Square has managed to measurably expand the depth of their combat system.

Gameplay impressions from IGN.

I'm pretty sure haters are going to hate anything LR will be. I'm looking at the same game and I can only see positive things. You can hate the storytelling and style, but gameplay wise and graphics wise they're trying their best in the trilogy. The game is not at all an easy grab cash in. There's much dedication from the developers and you can see. Especially with Versus being pushed to next-gen this is going to be the grand finale for the final fantasy series in this current gen. They're not going to waste their chance.

Finally some new little stuff on the time-mechanics:

The game contains a ticking clock that counts down whenever the player is not in a menu or in battle. There are ways to add time to the countdown, such as completing certain side-quests and performing expertly in battle. It’s that second one that really has my interest.

This is why I don't trust the FFXV footage.

This looks like absolute shit, and 15 looks incredible.

A game for next-gen that looks incredible, call me surprised again!
But... I beg to differ, I'm probably the only one in the world that for now is still more interested in finding more about LR than Versus. The gameplay video of Nomura's creation turned me off (probably too early in dev. to start judging), while LR looks almost complete and I already know what to expect from this time: I like it.

Speaking of which, my guess on the doomsdayclock:

it will be impossible in a first walthrough to complete the game. That means that you can hurry as much as you want but the XIII days will always end before you complete your final mission. The story/game will be in a infinite loop until Lightning by starting new game plus can approach more and more the ending. Let's say her mission is to kill her friends for something to happen. In 1st playthrough she manages to travel tu luxeion and the new city and kill their bosses. 13 days passes by. The world ends. Then time goes back. She starts again but this time the game keeps track of her previous progress, and she heads to wild lands and dead dunes. Achieving again part of her mission. Third playthrough, the final stage is set. In the third and final loop she'll confront the evil menace.

This will be the ideal way for players to not rush the game, enjoy the world and progressing with it. No hurry.

The DEMO really looks impressive, hopefully S-E has plans to release this to the public. Graphics are very good, the game plays smooth, the battle system seems really an upgraded version (compared to XIII-2) of the first's game ideas. The new interface is finally bearable.

Very, very positive feelings.

We also got to see the ingame HUD, HP ect. showing even outside battles and doomsdayclock upthere.

Maybe a dumb question but does Lightning fight alone in this game? No party to help.

This is an action RPG so the focus is on her. And seems a wise decision looking at the battles, tactictal and fun without the unnecessary chaotic mess seen in versus' battles.

Eh, I miss the XIII/XIII-2 "steel and blue bubbles" interface.
This seem really really...square. Not liek Square the company, but square the shape.

Guys just think. When this game releases we will never have to see Lightning ever again except in spin offs like Dissidia. I'm pretty excited for this game to come out so we can put FF13 behind us.

Or you can just ignore it right now and put it behind you. No one is forcing you to play anything with Lightning in it.

We're going to see her in Dissidia and KH definitely, but in main games probably not. Anyway we all know three games are now enough for her. After this time to look forward to something new. With some concern, I'll approach Versus with a new spirit. But I'll definitely miss Lightning's trilogy, and hopefully (I'm serious), Toriyama's journey doesn't end just here. FFXVI should be his game.
