Ah yeah.

Srsly. Get CBOAT in here and then we might know something. Or famousmortimer

Mortimer mentioned something on twitter that I saw that he received a message from some MS dev about something being "wiped clean" or something along those lines.

I'm sure he'll pop in and say something.

Well before E3 GB were saying they expected Sony to follow the exact same policies as MS and their sources were telling them that it was the big publishers pushing for DRM etc...

Not saying that they are wrong here, but just something to keep in mind.

There's a big difference between them saying generally what they've been hearing on the podcast and actually posting a big scoop like this.

There's no way Microsoft has fully thought through this move yet. It's a knee-jerk reaction spurred by investors who threatened to abandon ship at the risk of the next XBox flopping.

Right now, there's at least one developer screaming "FUCK", and thinking about how the hell this game is now going to work.

Investors wouldn't leave MS over this. The entertainment division which xbox is a part of is so small compared to the rest of MS operations it's laughable how much attention they get for something so little.

Investors would demand a change in policy because the value proposition was poor but they wouldn't sell their stocks over another possible failure in long history of failures from the entertainment division.

It's funny how many are ready to jump back into bed with the company that was trying to bend you over. Sony came in like Bruce Willis with a samurai sword and sliced MS open while they were behind you ready to insert.
People will go where the games and value are, for the most part.

Every company wants to bend you over.

If this true, does this mean that MS will have to delay the Xbone's release date in order to retool the OS?

IF true...
Then at least people will be making their choice based on games, not corporate policy.
That's indisputably a good thing.

So how do people think Microsoft will spin this announcement? They're going to somehow have to keep all the benefits of the previous strategy alongside the new one. That's gonna be tough.

Hi. I know this i a first post, and you'll all likely brush this off - but it's pretty damned late here where I am, and I just got a frantic phonecall from my Microsoft Pr guy saying he's just been in a meeting and confirmed all of this.

Expect a blogpost/video from Don Mattrick himself in about 50 minutes confirming it all.

All this means is that every fanboy and journalists and asshole who tried to argue in favor of these policies looks doubly foolish because they wasted that time defending something now everyone admits was a mistake including Microsoft and for what? Did they get paid for those days of pathetic defense? I hope they did.

I agree with you entirely. The fact that MS was thinking in this direction is a huge negative against them to me, it says they have no problem fucking us. So I will never have them as my first console like I did last gen, they did lose that privilege. But a price drop or two later and after I see there's no chance they'll put the DRM back on? Sure.

Be pretty surprsised if they did this, but it's still £80 more in the UK and I still think the average person cares more about the price than the DRM.

All the people who were defending this DRM crap are now cheering up to the possibility that Microsoft is going to remove said restrictions. Those double standards.

It's the right call. I'd love to know how many people cancelled Live memberships recently and if that was a driving factor.

Also: Did GAF save console gaming?

Still don't care for the way they talked to their potential customers at E3. Sony now has the culture that it didn't have with the PS3 launch, and that shows throughout their approach. From DRM, to indies, to social media. While MS is reactionary, Sony has been listening to the fans and developers the entire time.

lol.... all of the sites reporting this now.... if MS doesn't do it... man does that sort of put them in an awkward position... though maybe no more awkward than if they do do it.

Exactly and who knows maybe it's a made up rumor by the games media to pressure Microsoft to change. That would be so wrong but so awesome all at the same time.

Mortimer has already posted in here.

Wow can't wait to see how Major Nelson spins this.

"Due to the overwhelming response from our core fanbase, we decided to throw everyone a bone and make the console as accessible as it should have been to begin with. Please be excited and stop cruising our name on the internet."

or it could go...

" Ya'll know we was just kidding, right?"

Ya I mean. If they are going to do it. Do it now. They froze the gamestop preorders. It makes sense just do it now and move forward.
But I bet they had to speak with devs a SHITTON about it to make sure it fits with what is possible. I mean since all non MP games had to be playable for at least 23 hours. I expect things to say "better played online" on the box.

I don't know if you noticed but that seems to be the trend regardless of platform (The Division, Watchdogs, Need For Speed, Drive Club, etc.). It seems like large third party games are all going to be online to some extent, even in single player.

If true, how will games be developed for Xbone now that a cloud-connected consumer is no longer a guarantee?

A cloud-connected consumer was NEVER a guarantee. That's why their console was 24 hour check-in instead of constant check-in. The cloud was never going to become this magical boost to games that they marketted.

I don't believe this at all. They've spent the past week tooting their horn (while being absolute fucking dicks about it) and suddenly they are going to drop it? They've done so much PR damage it's just crazy.

They have five month to fix it. In November only the hardcore gamers will still remember it.

Looks like some one at microsoft got some common sense.

Anyway, my wallet is still telling me to go Sony this gen but if the this rumor turns out to be true I might consider and X1 purchase down the line.

Ultimately, very few will care come launch.

Even if this happened, I'd still remain skeptical about the Xbone. Microsoft was trying their hardest to stick with those draconian policies. It's clear that is where they want to eventually head.
