GB/WH Rumor: Microsoft dropping basically all Xbox One DRM, announcement today

If true the only things holding me back will be the mandatory Kinect, the overpriced box and the less powerful boxness of it. Still it makes it a bit more appealing.

Didn't the audience cheer when Sony talked about used games with Jimmy Fallon? That may have influenced their perspective as this issue being wider than just blockheaded gamers.

So not only did Cerny bore the crowd with Knack, a day after Fallon played Forza 5, but he also got Fallon to say something that would convince MS to do the one thing that Sony probably dreaded.

Well done Cerny.

Holy SHIT this thread is fast. I would be shocked if this happens...at best I expected a longer check in time, full removal this far before launch?

This is good for the industry.

What would be the funniest thing ever would be EA letting us have seen a working version of Titanfall PS4 soon after this would-be announcement.

Jimmy Fallon said sony was the only console that supports used games, and don't require online yesterday, the crowd cheered. Xbox one will be on JF again but it will be EA, Microsoft can't clear things up on JF, Jimmy forced them to change their minds because of national TV.

And the audience went wild over it for sure. Maby..maby some who is smart at microsoft started thinking why there is so mutch bad PR from the press and consumers..maby.

This would be huge. This would be a big step in the right direction. I would go from never getting one, to getting one down the line when the price drops for exclusives.

If they do this, it is a huge pill for them to swallow. To go back on their "vision" as much as this would be an unbelievable backtrack

They are not the only instance learning about this today.

Apparently, word has gotten out few hours ago from various sources.

Sure, but they are the source being quoted as its gained traction. GB has a huge following here, I just dont want anything they post to turn into the first 25 posts saying "lol giant bomb" like some other sites here.

Well before E3 GB were saying they expected Sony to follow the exact same policies as MS and their sources were telling them that it was the big publishers pushing for DRM etc...

Not saying that they are wrong here, but just something to keep in mind.

yea, Giant Bomb has been wrong about a lot of stuff this past month in regards to the DRM

DRM wasn't even the main problem for me. It's the high price.

And if this happens, say goodbye to the family plan.

Look for me on the local news, I'll be the guy arrested for trying to burn down a Nintendo exec's house.
We are your masters, Microsoft.

Don't you ever forget that again.

So sad how many of you are going to fall for this PR stunt. If M$ was willing to do this and was arrogant enough to follow through with it, says a lot about the company. They aren't listening to our voices, they are back tracking because their competitors i.e. Sony have made them the laughing stock of the Gaming World.

I will say this though. If M$ announces they'll have two SKU's one with Kinect and the other with out, and price it competitively, we'll have an all out generation war.

This is pretty hilarious, hell, even if it's not true. Console wars are the greatest thing about the internet. That and porn. Ok mostly porn.

This is good for consumers. Time will tell if it is enough for Microsoft to stop the bleeding or if preorders start to even out at all. Doesn't help with the lower specs or higher price, but keeping consumer friendly practices is a plus.

I can see how this would be crucial if MS wants to change the narrative around the XB1 before its release.

Plus if pubs really let Sony get away with it, I don't see how they could force MS to keep enforcing it.

There is some hope for the industry if this turns out to be true afterall. Also, could this be related to the gamestop rumour about them discontinuing Xbone preorders?

Are people so spineless that they would actually buy an Xbone if they backtrack the DRM? Way to go GAF.

If they backtrack, then consumers won. They heard our complaints and changed.

In other words, they become a viable platform again.

How are you spinning this as a bad thing ("spineless")?

I don't believe this at all. They've spent the past week tooting their horn (while being absolute fucking dicks about it) and suddenly they are going to drop it? They've done so much PR damage it's just crazy.
