guess I'll take it back to the store this afternoon and hope for a 32GB :

Drop it recently? Mine slipped from my nightstand onto carpet and loosened the battery connection. After similar problems I opened it up and resecured the connection, works just fine now.

Dislike the build quality, the battery has some space to be moved around.

Is there anyway I could transfer music from my Nexus 7 to my Nokia X3? Both devices have a micro-USB connection so I figure there is a program that will allow such a transfer.

Anyone else buy the N7 dock?

I don't know if it's something they can fix through software or what, but the results from docking it are incredibly random. Sometimes it starts charging and puts a clock screensaver up...sometimes it doesn't charge at all...and then it'll put the clock screensaver up in portrait so it looks ridiculous. The functionality is kind of a mess.

Hmm, this is unfortunate news. I'm kind of wanting one, although unwilling to pay more than $30 and google play hasn't been in stock for who knows how long.

Google's retail efforts are such a mess.

Have you tried un-syncing apps that you're not using? (ie. Currents or Google+) That decreased some of the lag for me.

So I'm going into personal training as a job in college and could really use a tablet to help keep me organized, as well as for other productivity/entertainment apps. How cheap do you guys think the 16GB model will be after the new Nexus 7 is released, and how much of an upgrade do you think the new Nexus 7 will be?

The currents/G+ trick did work but only temporarly.

The TRIM app did help. I also installed franco.kernel which also did improve performance.

But pure stock 4.2 is a mess for me.

Just got my Nexus 7 back from the repair outlet. Turn it on, still 100% broken. I can't even type in my wifi password during the initial setup (the screen registers phantom touches and doesn't register some real touches).

Fuck Asus, fuck them up their stupid asses. I bought this thing to learn Android development. Fat fucking chance of that now. I should have bought an iPad mini like the voice in the back of my head was telling me.

Oh well, I suppose I gave Android I chance.

Edit: Also, they shipped it to my home address, which I specifically asked them not to do. I even talked to a rep after my initial call to double check that they were sending it to my office. Fucking useless.

Huh, guess it may've been for the best I just decided to deal with the one issue I had (can't turn on from a cold shutoff unless I plug it in for charging immediately.)

I also have poor experience dealing with ASUS support. I had a TF with the keyboard dock and sent it in due to the reported battery problems. They sent it back dented on one side so it wouldn't rest steady on top of any surface. I tried to contact them again to get them to fix, but every time I reached a support rep they kept stating that someone would contact me to resolve the issue. Never did and I ended up just selling the tablet off.

It's certainly still usable and after a few apps/adjustments, is much smoother. There are a few hiccups here and there, but it's rather smooth as a whole.

I believe the bootloader is locked, so you'd have to wipe and unlock your tablet first before you can root. I used Helium to backup app data before wiping.

That was the only negative to me.

Had to send mine back after it started to only charge intermittently and the bottom back half was coming undone. Mine was from Sept '12 so I made sure I got it sent back before the problems became worse and the warranty expired.

Still satisfied with the device, but the low price point was definitely only possible because of cutting corners with build quality/parts. That being said, it's probably a price I'm willing to pay as I'm a cheap ass student.

So... I just RMAed mine. The screen has burn in, a dead pixel and the 16GB hard drive bug.

I hope they send a new one. I still love the device immensely.

My girlfriend's N7 couldn't (she has a pattern unlock), when you swipe the pattern the last few dots don't connect so you basically can't unlock it.

She was able to pick up my Skype call since I guess it works sometimes.

After a while the touchscreen worked a little.

Any ideas what the problem is, or just hardware failure?

Skype also has a problem where it rings non-stop even after she picked up the call already, but I think that's a Skype issue.

I have not noticed any of those things, but the newer models have a bad standby battery life due to the version of the operating system. it should be fixed eventually.


In a comparison to the mini IPad it beats it in ram and almost every other factor especially price. Only thing it does not have that the mini ipad does is a good camera.

Currently not experiencing any of those problems. Experienced the second one before though.

Hmm, I also haven't experienced any of these problems. Well, I do get laggy ui when it's updating, eventually I turned off auto-update apps because it was updating so frequently it got really annoying. Now I just tell it to update all before plugging it in for the night.

It does shock me how many build quality issues people are having, I guess I count myself lucky I dodged them.

I do kind of regret getting this instead of an ipad mini (especially at $300) but it's a great tablet none the less.

My cased for protection Nexus gently fell out of my hands and a small, near invisible crack on the screen appeared. It could be worse, right? Well it is- for whatever reason, the touch screen no longer works.. FML.

Guys, I have enough to buy a 32GB model in EBGames credit. Is this tablet still worth getting? I am looking for my first tablet! Don't want to buy something that will not last.

I wouldn't buy it considering a new one is probably going to be announced in a month or two around a similar price point.

Used my N7 as my main internet machine (wi-fi only) on my recent 3-week vacation and can definitely relate to these (except the feel, which I do like). Both the UI was slow and within apps (Chrome and Dolphin, for example) too.

A couple of other annoyances I found:

* I usually hold the tablet in landscape for general use and browsing, but when I go to type something the on-screen keyboard takes up so much room along with the Back/Home/Apps bar at the bottom, that I can barely see the text box I am writing into.
* Another thing is the screen cursor when trying to select/insert text; I just could not get the cursor to stop where I wanted it to unless I zoomed in.
* Whilst the aspect ratio of the screen initially is good, when you take up a permanent amount of space with the Back/Home/Apps bar, you don't get a whole lot of reading room on-screen.
* Ads in both Chrome and Dophin seemed to kill loading times for web pages. Even worse, when I scrolled, the ads reloaded.

Now I am back, I am going to root it and see if that makes any difference.

For the last complaint, try getting Firefox and getting AdBlockPlus.
