There's Korean writing in Surgery Simulator...and has nothing to do with Half-Life.

Eh, Half-Life 2 was released six years after the first one. A seven year gap between Episode 2 and Half-Life 3 seems about right... If we can only be so lucky to see a sequel in that time frame...

What's interesting though is that Episode 3 was pretty much scrapped, and the total silence since then is just odd. That combined with Source 2 and Valve's recent service based projects implies that HL3 could be very different.

Yeah true. It will be interesting to see what they come up with.

it was, there are a couple of options

  1. Dota 2 related maybe? (korea is big in compeditive gaming)

That could be another one, Valve trying to get more exposure in South Korea.

It's weird to think that the Hunter Chopper chase + scrapyard battle is the only gameplay from Episode Three/Half-Life 3 that has seen daylight in seven years.

Could you link to the footage? I've never seen it before. Also the name for the image in your post is 00565086-photo-half-life-2-episode-two.jpg. Is the pic related?

I've never heard or seen it before either. To me it looks like it's from EP2.
The only thing I know that's come from EP3 is artwork.

I apologize if this has already been mentioned, but what's the deal with all those 13's people kept mentioning? The 13th floor in the PC gamer ad, valve employee steam profiles being level 13.

There were 13 games in the original Potato Sack ARG as well, weren't there? Valve seems to love that number.

This thread is friggin' amazing, btw. It's all I've done at work all day is read this, lol.

If you've played through Episode Two's "Riding Shotgun" chapter, you've played it. It was shipped in Two given it was ready far ahead of Episode Three expectations (per the commentary).

So content planned for Episode Three was moved into Episode Two? I'll have to look for this dev commentary.

That is unrelated to what is being discussed in this thread. Go away.

First of all, why so hostile?

Secondly, I was simply pointing out that that summary image (posted on this very page and therefore being discussed in this thread) is not all that 'sound' because something it claims as evidence has been called insignificant by a Valve employee.

Of course Valve could be trying to throw us off the trail, but I personally think those Steam_Support tweets were nothing to dwell on.

There's an apparent screenshot from Gabe confirming there's no ARG, there's another one from Marc Laidlaw, there's more stuff from the support twitter account, again no ARG.

I don't know how many of those are true and I don't want to badger the poor bastards.
Furthermore, I feel like outright asking them is absoloutely against the nature of it and pointless. It's insulting even.

These are related to the HL2 update and not the Surgeon Simulator stuff though.

edit: wait nevermind, it looks russian indeed. the helicopter DOES look like an mi-8 though, if google images is to be believed.

A valvetime user has discovered more links to korea in the old leaked half-life 2: episode 3 concept art:

Based on the concept art it looks like Hl2 Ep3 was originally going to lead Gordon and Alyx somewhere near Russia or North Korea.

City 17 is basically retro futurist soviet city. Russian helicopter so why not russian theme winter close too... (countries doesn't exist anymore in HL lore. Earth lost the 7 minutes wars against the combine and is now under Breen control (himself being a puppet to the combine)

Can someone explain to me how these are Korean? I thought that symbol was Russian.
Helicopter appears to be Korean, but really could be Russian as well. I think the more important link is location. Whether the original intent was to travel to Russia, it could have easily changed to Korea in those 7 years. And by all the Korean updates and the dlc...

Also I'm not entirely convinced the symbol on the guys head is Korean, to me it looks japanese, but the suit is what caught my attention. Definitely a snow suit.

Edit: aaaand there we go
