Xbox boss says hardware analysis between consoles is “meaningless”

Of course, they know they have weaker specs, but I'm also on the side that really it's all about the games and what they can bring in that regard. Just let me see the awesome software. 1.2Tf GPU vs 1.8TF etc etc I don't care about. Let me see what games you guys can bring.

You should really care because it's not 1.2 vs 1.8 tf, it is 900gflops vs 1.8tf. The Xbox one has lots of gpu resources held back for the os along with 3gb of slow ram. The system is without these issues was already handicapped. It causes potential problems when developing multiplatform games because the ideas have to be scaled down.

The games will be what determines my purchases as well. Power is all well and good, but I want games. Good games.

Sure, but it's also hypocritical to say nobody cares about specs, they only care about games, then go on to infer that your system is better because of magic and the cloud. Isn't that kind of talking about things from your spec sheet that you feel your competition doesn't have?

Did he specifically talk about magic and the cloud? What magic anyway? All I am saying is the majority of game buyers who had a system last gen realized how similar most games looked and will look at this gen as being very similar. 360 was weaker and a lot of multi plat titles looked better on 360; it is all about the games, multi plat DLC,exclusives to the masses. The talk about the specs is for the hardcore crowd and never will go mainstream.

"It's not the size of your cock that matters, but how you use it. " - Some guy with a small cock.

Seriously though, the average consumer doesn't care and will probably decide which one is more powerful based on how the first batch of games look and what other cool features they get with it.

Well yeah, the games do count.

And Sony has some of the most amazing software engineers in the industry. Who have experience with the most complicated coding environments around.

When 90% of the games I buy are on both platforms, having a substantial power difference matters. (Not to mention the fact that the $100 cheaper console is the more powerful one)

Wait, what is Xbox losing?
GAF? The hearts and minds of gamers? Wimbledon? Dude talks up his product, downplays deficiencies and all was the same.

It is interesting just how much favor MS has lost in the last few years. I can't wait to see how this plays out because although I'll be getting a PS4 first I do love a good underdog story. More expensive, less powerful and a bitter taste from the DRM fiasco. Add in a Sony that isn't missing a beat and the story gets so good it should be a movie.

Even if it is meaningless the PS4 is still $100 cheaper. This tech specs are meaningless statements is something you hear from the cheaper weaker alternative. Not the most expensive, weakest hardware. Its a good thing they changed their drm because then the would have been the most restrictive, expensive, and the weakest.

Haven't paid attention to "performance specs" of console hardware since the whole 44million polygon hoopla they spewed for PS2. Truly meaningless to talk about before real world performance analysis is possible.

Anyway, everyone should know by now that Major Nelson is a hypocritical PR tool and nothing he says should be taken seriously.

"Here's what you care about," he said. "You bought a system to play great games and have great experiences. I feel like our games and experiences are going to be every bit as good, if not better, technically - on top of all the magic we're going to add with the instant switching, and the power of the cloud.

I'm immediately reminded of Major Nelson saying:

"It's awesoooome!"

with respect to the family sharing plan during te Reddit interview.

...yeah, "it's awesome" is not gonna cut it, guy.

Kinect. You are paying for Kinect. It isn't cheaper because MS is trying to milk you for money.

And therein will remain a simple hardware analysis that matters: "Similar" for $399 vs $499.

One has an additional peripheral while the other doesn't therein lies the reason for the extra $100. Trying to spin it without mentioning that is just wrong.

Oh look. People criticizing a company for saying their focus is on game development. Shortly after complaining that the same company didn't focus on their games, but focused too much on tech/features.

Must be Friday.

So why did they, last gen, have Major Nelson put out "facts" as they called it where they prove that the 360 is in fact stronger?

Of course he is right, but to pull this stance now is pretty funny.

That was a rumor that wasn't confirmed in any way. In fact, I think I read somewhere in GAF today that a MSFT spokesperson said the clock speeds in XBO were the same as originally planned, and the same as PS4 (1.6Ghz CPU and 800 Mhz GPU)

I'm still getting a 180, hopefully early next year. Had an O.G. Xbox and a 360 and loved them both. Also had all the other platforms in those generations too. I just buy everything and play as much as I can. During DRMgate was the only time I wasn't going to get a 180. After the turn around I was right back in. I flip-flop my main console so many times throughout a Gen that I can't even tell you my favorite console from any generation except 8 and 16bit (NES and SNES).
