360: New Dash Beta Sign-ups.

Nothing on my dash here in Canada and that's after a refresh.

Why the fuck do they always have to make things harder? Every other beta they've done before took me 2 mins and I was in.

You can use smartglass to delete stuff on the HDD? OMG, mind blown o_O

Not really, that's why it requires improvement. :p
You can use it as a remote control of your dashboard, so you just swipe around on your tablet but have to check your dashboard on your TV screen (I could do it with a regular gamepad, but the tablet is better for multitasking). That's why I use PIP on my TV to do something else while files are downloaded or moved from HDD to USB key etc, but it would be much better if I could see my dashboard screen on my tablet, instead of only the ABCD buttons, and I wouldn't need the PIP any more.

Thinking about participating for the first time ever. What kind of problem did you guys have with previous dashboard betas?

The only problem I remember with the Metro beta was the incompatibility with Wireless music game accessories. It was fixed after a little bit.

Really? Pretty easy and much better than the way it used to be.

This.

You didn't have to jump through a bunch of hoops like last time. They didn't even make you fill out anything on the website. Just download the app and you are in.

Do we get the download for this immediaely or is it coming later. I'll try this out when I get home in 1 hour.

Official FAQ is up, should probably be put in the OP: http://support.xbox.com/en-US/xbox-360/system-updates/xbox-360-beta-faq

I’ve signed up but haven’t received the update. Why?

It will take up to two business days (Monday-Friday) for the update to download to your console once you’ve completed the on-console registration application. You'll know you’ve gotten the update and you’re in the beta when you see the “beta” channel on your Dashboard.

So we probably won't start getting the update until Monday.

ESPECIALLY READ THIS SHIT:

Note You are required to agree to a non-disclosure agreement (NDA) for confidentiality reasons. Any participant who violates the NDA will be removed from the beta, be barred from future Xbox betas, and not have access to Xbox LIVE until the end of the beta program period. Your NDA does apply to posting in the public forums. Make sure not to post any feedback, comments, or suggestions about the beta there!

Screw that. I'm not going to help them phase out MSP which they're gonna make disappear from my account after a year.

I can't tell you if I'm in or not because I signed the NDA. :(

Just kidding, I haven't applied yet. It's probably too late anyway.

So... if I'm in the beta and I buy MS points (from Amazon or something) would they still work?
http://support.xbox.com/en-US/billi...ccount-management/microsoft-points-retire-faq

What will happen to Microsoft Points Cards?
Microsoft Points Cards will continue to be redeemable on your console and on Xbox.com throughout 2014 and for a limited time thereafter but will be discontinued after the launch of Xbox Gift Cards this fall. Please note that any funds we deposit into your account at the time of the transition will expire one year from the deposit date. Xbox Gift Cards, which will be denominated in your local currency, will be available for purchase in retail stores and through online retailers.

What if I have codes and/or Microsoft Points Cards that I haven’t redeemed?
Go ahead and redeem them! Even after your account transitions, we’ll still accept purchased Microsoft Points Cards and codes through 2014 and for a limited time thereafter, and we’ll credit you an amount of currency equal to or greater than the Marketplace value of those points as we phase out the Microsoft Points program.

Pretty much every single question about the points transition is answered on the linked page.

I got a bunch of 800 msp i need to add to my xbox...how long till these babies stop working?

Don't add them until after they switch over to cash. If you do it now, those points are going to have an expiration date on them (a year from the date points are converted to cash). If you do it after they switch to cash, they won't expire.

Yeah. It is really stupid to sign up for this beta. Let them sort their shit out first.

This isn't going to have any effect on that. They're switching over regardless of anybody signing up for this beta. Mind telling me what's "really stupid" about checking out something new?

Yeah, sorry, they are using forced translation of 60% dashboard since the last update. Sucks ass but that's the way it is.

EDIT: And in case anyone missed it:

HOW TO REFRESH YOUR DASHBOARD
Open guide
Hold RT and press Y
Dashboard will reload and you will see any new tiles etc

You just blew my mind, John. Whaaaaaa.

Oh, I see :(

They really need to improve storage management, if not on 360, at least for the xbone dashboard... Right now it's a pain in the ass, and 100 times slower than it should be XD

OK, I'm reading through the FAQs now, and I'm not sure if this is a good thing or not:

The purchased funds you deposit into your account after the transition will not expire. However, the funds we deposit into your account at the time of the transition will expire one year from the deposit date.

and

Even after your account transitions, we’ll still accept purchased Microsoft Points Cards and codes through 2014 and for a limited time thereafter, and we’ll credit you an amount of currency equal to or greater than the Marketplace value of those points as we phase out the Microsoft Points program.

Questions:

Does this mean I'll be able to redeem Xbox Points codes/add Allards to my account "after the transition" so that they won't expire? The second quote suggests I will be able to, but I'm not too sure.

By "transition" are they referring to this Fall Update? So when this update is rolled out worldwide, will the "transition" be completed, thus allowing users to redeem Xbox Points codes without fear of expiry?

I have a load of Xbox points codes I've gotten over the years during sales and what not. I was planning on selling them, but I'm hoping to capitalize on this and have the points be converted to currency so I can buy Xbox One stuff (I wasn't planning on getting one, but if this is possible, I might reconsider).

Finally, not a question, but a comment: forcing Space Bucks to expire is really shitty, Microsoft. Geez

Yeah. It is really stupid to sign up for this beta. Let them sort their shit out first.

Yeah, as soon as I saw that tidbit in the Beta Agreement about converting Microsoft Points, I nope'd out of there and entered the beta with a side account instead.

I'm safe from the NDA on GAF, right? Microsoft can't find me here!

I should stop using the same nick everywhere

can't really think of what they could add which will be a better experience without slowing down the console boot time any more then it is.

Zonic

Gives all the fucks
wonder if we will get any freebies, I still have my Halo Reach disc from way back that they gave us.
I've got that as well (plus the code to make up for the fact the disc was unplayable after an update. Been meaning to sell/trade that) and some of the avatar stuff, like that helmet. I'm gonna assume we'll get another avatar prop or shirt again.

I did this on both my 360s. I am always interested in seeing the new changes a bit early and possibly help out with bugs.

What are we considering ads here, the 1 ad square, the game recommendations, both?

I find the current dash very easy to navigate. Voice helps where it's useful but it doesn't work for everything on 360. I hope they can improve that.

I signed up. I'm a little nervous though.

On the one hand, I can't imagine them making an experience I like less than what's on there today.

On the other, I feel like every revision has been worse. :(
