If this thing hovers over 2,000+, every item will skyrocket in price no matter what
The first item will set precedence for the rest

Would be interesting if this was testing the waters for a trophy based market place. (Like a Club Nintendo type thing but based on playing the game rather than just buying it.) Might convince people to hang onto games longer too as a side effect.

Does SCEA have no idea how cheated and manipulaed the PS3 trophy system has become? Only Vita trophies should be eligible.

Microsoft see Achievements as an investment, they try govern their system, to keep things fair and balanced
If a hacker gets a ridiculous GS within a 1 month time frame and reach #1, they get banhammered with the quickness
Sony created their system to just combat MS
They didn't think it fully through, it was an add-on, which they though would be just a bullet point
Luckily for them, it caught on and created a sub-community that spends good hard earned cash and keep putting money into Sony's pocket
The ineptness of PS3 + PSN Network is the cause of this
For Sony Trophies are the Wild West for them, not enough sheriffs or bylaws to wrangle them in
Hopefully PS4 and their future outlook, can maybe fix the system a little, but the damage is already done for the foreseeable future
CFW has made a mockery of the system
You can purchase Platinums by Second Account Trick
Most top guys are teams of players working together and racking up the trophies
You then have Save Hacks abuse on certain titles, just copy/paste and Insta-Ping till Platinum
Then you have Game Genie (hex editor), that changes values in games and makes earning trophies way easier and still lets you earn trophies
I mean if you give yourself 100 million gil in FFXIII, you really don't have to grind that much for the weapons, you can just buy them outright
If Sony was smart they would have
1 Gold Trophy = 1 Raffle Ticket
Use all your raffle tickets on 1 item to increase your odds or spread them out to multiple bids
I mean right now, you have to be @ the top of the leaderboards like < 50 and even then you have to compete with accounts that most just cheated to get their trophies
So yes if Sony was smart, they would have leveled the playing field and balanced it to that even 1 Gold trophy gave you a fucking chance

If SCEA was smart, PS3 trophies wouldn't even count. You said it yourself it's an unfair playing field to a huge extent. Even with that raffle system, it'd be unfair. Only Vita trophies should be counted.

The more this prolongs and the higher gold trophy guys see this, the more they will bet
Right now promotion started, so not everyone is in on it
I wouldn't be surprised by tomorrow morning the bid is up to 1,500+
They already showed us the 15 items that will be bid on for the 15 days the event is running
So yeah, the top guys already have bookmarked and are waiting for the item they want and will bid their amount and take the item

Yeah, that sounds like a significantly better idea. It would also be cool if they just did this with smaller items. It could operate sort of like Club Nintendo. Every year, you could use the trophies you've acquired to get a couple of small items.

Yeah, it's the combination of these two things that makes it meaningless for most. If bidding was permanent, and all the future items were secret, then it wouldn't matter if a handful of folks have thousands of gold trophies. Most of them would use up their golds fighting each other in early rounds, or else they'd skip some entirely and hope to see something better later. That'd increase the chances that people with a lower total could snipe a couple of the auctions.
