24 million Kinects purchased.I wonder what the other 8+m people who bought Kinect are using it for.
Plus all the Wii/PS Eye motion gamers.

Somebody wake this person up...
You're right, it can be turned off, but you lose functionality. According to MS, some games or apps that require it won't function without it.
So my point was that if you don't want to play games or other apps that are unique to the Xbox One experience, why buy one? PS4 will meet all of your needs and then some.
If the issue is price, as I mentioned before MS has many other options like subsidizing the console or bundling it with other services like Cable and Internet.
Microsoft can shove Kinect up their ass. Not one thing proved Kinect was anything but a novelty. The best it could muster was Dance Central, and that will be another Dance Dance Revolution/Guitar Hero and fizzle out. Not many people want 10 versions of the same dance game.
Microsoft has yet to prove this new Kinect is even worth the mandating in the first place.
I think that you should invest some money into good sarcasm detector
When the "rest of us" is 98% of gamers. I think he can speak for everyone.

Drop Kinect 2, MS. Do it and I'll buy your system.
At the very least they are attempting to correct their mistakes, unlike certain other company that said their fans would pay 600, because you know.. fans.
Funny how many of these posts have come from juniors who have registered between June 1-3 of this year. Was this site always PS fanboys or did it become this way just after the next gen reveals?
Throw out Kinect. Lower to $399. Put in 12 GB RAM and dual GPU. Make Titanfall a full exclusive pack-in. Switch the analog stick position. Buy Naughty Dog's independence from SCE. Done.
Very true. And that's the problem. They attempted to show us with the stick figure, block man and muscle man demos, but until we see some actual games that implement what the new Kinect can do, it's just waggle 2.0. Microsoft has utterly failed in this area and the burden is on their first and second parties to make it happen. The same can be said about their cloud. No one cares. pretty much this.drm woops just kidding
shitting on indies woops just kidding
$499 woops just kidding
at least they're fixing mistakes, but they haven't given me any reason to trust them for a while.

If this trend continues, we'll have two identical consoles in November. How utterly boring.
I've been yearning for the day that the Japanese oldschool video game giants forge an alliance to destroy the white devil.Oh yeah? Well, what if Sony drops the price and forges a new publishing partnership with Nintendo, which sees Metroid and a new Mario title coming to PS4?

Mine is unplugged in a drawer somewhere because while it was plugged in it kept giving me popup warnings in Ghost Recon Future Soldier, even though I never used Kinect for it.I wonder what the other 8+m people who bought Kinect are using it for.
The WiiU clicked with neither, and is on life support.
Since 2002, at least. 2005-2006 was bad, but this year is a completely different ballgame. How long has NEOGAF been monitoring this junior member poser problem?
Realistically though, even if they do this, I don't think it'll be next month. September/October, maybe, but not Gamescom.
Lowering the price is pretty much the 'final' checklist that can be ticked off, and there's still a lot of stuff with lower loss impact that hasn't been ticked.
- Details on indie policy
- XBL Gold 'services'& paywall
- Cheaper Gold
- Potential Windows 'apps' on XB
- Content partnership
- More exclusives, money-hats or internal studios.
If they're going to pull 180s, they'd be doing a lot of the above first before pulling the biggest, most self-damaging decision for the console launch.
Hell, headsets of all things are 'being looked into.' That doesn't inspire confidence, and it sounds like even what is probably a $5 cost item is being scrutinised.
A $399 XBone would still be less value to a person like myself who is interested in raw graphics capabilities. As MS tries to resolve every single issue with the Xbox One in relation to the PS4, this happens to be one they can't change through policy.
I dumped the PS2 for the OG Xbox because of power difference, so my precedent has always been set.
Was this site always PS fanboys or did it become this way just after the next gen reveals?
The problem with this is Microsoft's answers so far have been to get on PAR with what the PS4 did months ago.
They're not doing anything to be competitive. They think if they can just equal out then people will pick them over the competition.

Just in time for them to drop it!The rumors are Gamescom is to focus on Kinect.

It became "that way" after Microsoft showed its ridiculously anti-consumer colors. Many people who post here that were even Xbox 360 loyalists have been turned against Microsoft due to the policies they intended to implement with their new console. It's not just blind fanboyism, more like looking at what each side offers realizing that the PS4 is a no brainer. I know it can be hard for the hyper-partisan types to see, but many of us GAFers looked at the two consoles objectively.
The reaction of the hardcore gamer is integral (see what I did there?) to gaining positive word of mouth, generating momentum and more importantly, convincing casual friends that a new console is worth buying.
The Wii was an outlier that clicked immediately with casuals. The same folks who tossed it in the closet when they got bored. The WiiU clicked with neither, and is on life support. Do you really believe that the casual market that Kinect is aimed at will spend $500 on a new system? Hardcore gamers spend that money, and Kinect is anathema to that group.
Isn't the Xbox One sold out of preorders, like, everywhere? Seems to be doing pretty well outside of the echo chamber of GAF.
I don't believe there are distinct lines between Hardcore and Casual gamers.
Anecdotally, when I'm alone I'm a "Hardcore" gamer. I sit down on the couch and play all my narrative-driven single player games or boot up a match of Halo. But, when I'm with friends or with my girlfriend we LOVE to play those silly minigame games, or Dance Central or other social games. If I'm going to be spending hundreds of dollars on a games box, I want the box that gives me both of these experiences.
We had two identical consoles last generation. And three identical consoles before that.
In the end I don't see why it matters what was intended. I try to evaluate the product that ends up on store shelves and everything beyond that is irrevelant.
All of the big three console manufacturers have anti-consumer elements.
