So you think spending 2+ years and millions of dollars to develop Wii U Fit is a smart strategy?
Nintendo's whole approach to casual gaming is archaic. You do not take the standard software development lifecycle approach for how traditional games are made and apply them to casual games. It's slow and expensive with even bigger risk.
When you compare Nintendo's model for casual games to the app store and google play, it's a shining example of incompetence.
I didn't say that. I said the wii sold to people with no interest in PLAYING games.
stay with me here.
buying wii sports or wii fit to enjoy the novelty of motion controls and waggle isn't really an audience who likes playing games. this is an audience attracted to the novelty of motion control. there's a big difference. People who fire up a tablet to fool around with songpop or candy crush for 15 minutes and nothing else aren't really an audience who like playing games either. it's simply the most convenient way to waste time for 15 minutes.
people who enjoy playing games *gasp* keep buying them! This didn't happen with the wii.
The Wii's attach rate is only respectable because nearly all of it's software was sold up until 2010...then sales collapsed and their audience got tired of playing games. This has never happened to any other console in gaming history, and didn't happen to their two closest competitors.
Utterly calamitous.
Nintendo better unleash some fuckin MAGIC this holiday.
Cut the damn price already!
Just pointing out that you meant Q3 2012, Q4 2012 and Q1 2013 or am I missing something?
More accurate would be Five Months from November on. I'm pretty flabbergasted they didn't revise forecasts. I guess Iwata and co are just in this for as many paychecks as possible before being angrily removed at this point if they're to lie to investors faces at that degree.
Sony's Q1 FY2013 investor meeting is tomorrow, haha.
Hoooly shit. Is this beyond Vita bad?
Is this worse than Gamecube? Vita?
Out of 160k shipped units, how many have they sold?
SmokyDave wants to see those stats from which you are basing your opinions.
I think they are too stubborn to give it up.Honestly I think this will be last Nintendo console in living room.Probably they will go full portable from next console.
Can it be saved?

They could have easily sold more than the number shipped this past quarter, but that sold number is coming from their original launch shipment meaning they have only just begun t sell through their launch shipment from 9 months ago.
This is probably why ASDA in the UK jumped ship for now.
This is bad. Nintendo has to do something big.
I'll happily bet that the Vita will outsell the WiiU in Europe this quarter. The WiiU is ded in Europe, no question about it.
Holy shit. iirc Nintendo handhelds usually sell way better in North America. NoA is fucking up really bad.
Portable with wired/wireless TV-out I would assume (hope). Only one platform to develop for, Nintendo teams don't have to be split across resources like they are now.
Wouldn't surprise me if it got mentioned at E3 2014.
Q1 2014 is shorthand for "Q1 2013/2014" or "Q1 of the fiscal year ending March 31st, 2014."
There are no color or bundle options for a 3DS in North America. They don't even try to sell the damn thing.

Ahhhh. 3DS doom and gloom all over again. I'll enjoy Pikmin 3 and those other Nintendo releases while the numbers continue to drop. Won't stop me from enjoying what is available.
How about a bundle with Nintendoland, NSMBU, ZombieU and Pikmin 3 for $300? Obviously that won't save the system by itself, but it's something at least.
Nintendo still "expecting" to have 9 million LTD sold by the end of the year?
I know Mario is coming but only in December, at this rate 6 million LTD would be amazing for them unless they plan on making a huge price cut then I don't see how they expect 9 million LTD they are just lying to themselves.
Wii U is a flop, just abandon it in 4 years please Nintendo.
With no games up until now, who'd have thunk it...

Big ?
To late for that now.
Enjoy it while it lasts.Ahhhh. 3DS doom and gloom all over again. I'll enjoy Pikmin 3 and those other Nintendo releases while the numbers continue to drop. Won't stop me from enjoying what is available.
Though to be fair, Western 3rd parties have never supported handhelds very much to begin with. But Nintendo's inability to create new franchises for a wide audience like they did with Brain Training and Nintendogs isn't helping. So the 3DS underperforms everyplace that isn't Japan - where it gets all the big name portable titles by default. There's also virtually no 3rd party support for the handheld in the West.
And outside of a couple titles, lots of the 3rd party support from Japan never makes it over to the US.
It's not surprising :/
How much money would they be losing on that? :lololol
Tomorrow? What a glorious week it has been.
There isn't just one problem that if solved will fix all...
Name, box design, unnappealling main hook, unattractive price for what yout get, retro level online infrastructure, weak software lineup, shit marketing.....
Nintendo will need to spend big and heavy.
Nintendo is "expecting" to have 12.45 million shipped LTD by next March.
Honestly I think this will be last Nintendo console in living room.Probably they will go full portable from next console.
