It's like the third album curse. When you have two following successes, chances are you're going to fumble on the third attempt.

Nine Inch Nails, Tupac, Michael Jackson, Janet Jackson, Madonna, Judas Priest, Duran Duran, Metallica, Megadeth, Iron Maiden, The Doors, The Beatles, and The Temptations never went through that :).

Actually, it's a bad idea for MS (since they probably aren't going to see a return on their investment) and a good idea for gamers as a game that would never have been made will be made thanks to the investment that MS put into it. It's the same thing as the whole Bayonetta 2 thing. If Sony wants a piece of that Platinum pie then they'd be chucking money at them to fund exclusive games.

This. The whole "it's a bad idea for gamers" is a load of shit that certain folk like to spew when a game they want isn't coming to their console of choice.

If you read the translation than you're good. Its been all banter about how screwed Microsoft is and how much people hate that they are pulling a Platinum exclusive.

Thank you very much sir. I wish I was hear when the news broke but figured a frieldy gaffer could sum it all up. Appreciated!

I'm sorry, was that a failed attempt at sarcasm? You can stick your fingers in your ears all you want, or you can look at facts.

Top 100 Video Game Best Sellers of 2013:

#3. Launch Edition PS4
#7. Launch Edition Xbox One
#29. Standard Edition PS4
#68. Launch Edition PS4 Watch Dogs Bundle
#69. Launch Edition PS4 Battlefield 4 Bundle

That's one of, if not the, biggest retailer in the states. But hey, let's keep believing in miracles.

Amazon is a terrible barometer. Since you don't have to pay to preorder there, a lot of people will just do it. When it starts getting closer people will back out for various reasons. I have both systems preordered from there and will be backing out of one in the next few weeks once I decide what I want.

I'm sorta proud that I'm getting so good at reading these and understanding everything without a translation.

And I guess Nintendo's not buying Platinum!

It's gonna be crazy if the PS4 is on the market for a solid month before the XB1.

It's like having free exclusivity for next gen versions of all those mulitplats. It would seriously be hard for me to wait for the XB1 version of Ghosts, BF4, Need for Speed, etc.

Have a funny feeling I'm gonna have a PS4 on launch day. lol

Why would you want to wait for third party multiplats that are destined to run worse?

No shit? People didn't get mad when third parties were making exclusives for Sony throughout the PS1 and 2 years. Hell it was pretty much why those consoles were as popular as they were, sure as hell wasn't for their first party efforts. If MS is footing the bill and Platinum can do what they do with minimal risk, i really don't see the problem with it.

Ugh...Let me guess, you're an expert on Japanese culture.

The difference there is-and especially w/ PS2-Sony didn't really so much as have to lift a finger for their content. Sorry but it's true. Consumers purchased those systems by the truckloads, and devs didn't care about missing out on a few potential 20/40 mil when they had a console going well past 100 mil (and many of those 20/40 mil crossing over owning the 100+mil systems).

Plus given the major architecture differences, devs were well too eager to stick to the popular consoles. Sony just happened to be there and be the wunderkid.

It's not like what MS is doing, outright purchasing (timed) exclusives to try and add value to their console. Which is a smart thing to do business-wise (especially when your other options are slim), but could lead to heavy dependency. They depend on 3rd parties too much as it is.

Amazons a great Barometer, especially if you consider the percentage of people who cancel their pre orders are more than likely going to be the same % on each platform.

So if the PS4 is selling 10 units and XB1 is selling 2 units, then at a 50% cancel rate it will be PS4 5 units and XB1 1 unit.

Pre order cancelling, statistically is likely to be roughly the same in %. so the ratio of sales should remain unchanged.

If we were to look at information as well as a pure statistical analysis the pre orders cancelled would more than likely be a higher % on XB based on higher price, ongoing PS3 support giving more sony mindshare and gamescom announcements (which as we know 15 vs. 20 exclusive in year1 it's likely PS4 will have a better showing at gamescom, considering MS have no conference)

I will state the obvious right now but if MS do drop the kinect from the box early 2014, early adopters would be seriously screwed.

No, they'll be furious unless they have some sort of ambassador program to at least try to make up for the fact they are paying $100+ for a camera no one will ever develop for.

All the listed launch SKUs are sold out. If we're going by the assumption that both consoles will sell out at launch, as most modern consoles do, PS4 has a larger stockpile of consoles, no other way to slice it. My original point was that PS4 will most definitely outsell XB1 at launch in the states. Whether that's due to MS's yield issues, the Kinect drama, or what have you, is none of my concern. In addition, your logic applies to both consoles. There will be flux, but it certainly won't tip the scale in such a lopsided scenario.

Company A's Value Statement: Continually produce AAA games from within and instill a culture of high quality fidelity.

Company B's Value Statement: Continually produce contractual agreements with publishers to prevent games from appearing on other platforms.

Also something else I noticed lately (not directed to you):

Fan A: Hopes for the best for their console of choice.

Fan B: Hopes for the worst for a console they don't plan to own.

Yeah company A has that "value statement" because all of their third party exclusives went multiplatinum and started to appear on Company B's console.

Whole lotta that going on here. I plan on owning both eventually. ( and WIIU when Bayo2 drops)

Sony really has this in the palm of their hands. Possible Kinect Less SKU also feels my heart with joy. I didn't plan on picking up a PS4 at launch, but I want this show to start as soon as possible, I'll observe from the sidelines.

Fixed.

It doesn't matter if you're Fan A or B. If you think like that you're a fanboy, and there's people like that on both "sides".

Thank fuck for that. Honestly, the fact MS even consider Platinum important enough to Moneyhat an exclusive is something to be celebrated IMO.

It will piss me off that It will be a long while before ai play this Platinum game, but hell, I still havent played Madworld *shrugs*

Without a doubt. Microsoft would have to pay stores to not stock the PS4 in order to keep it even remotely close. In no way is this going to be a death blow for the Xbox brand but they're going to stumble hard this holiday and have to start thinking about how they'll market the system through 2014.

However, I don't expect the PS4 to be anywhere near the PS3 and 360 in sales. With inevitable final price drops, and a marketing push on both sides for the current systems (since they both will have awesome profit margins at this point), both systems will have a stellar holiday sales year.

I think that most people here take for granted that Xbox One will fail and sell considerabily less than PlayStation 4.

In reality, Xbox One is starting this generation in a much better position than Xbox 360 did.

At the time Sony held LOTS of important third-party games as exclusives or timed exclusives.

Final Fantasy was basically a Sony exclusive (no, Crystal Chronicles does not count, sorry)
Metal Gear Solid too.
Kingdom Hearts too.
Namco was literally in love with Sony (Tekken as an historic exclusive of the Sony consoles)
Grand Theft Auto was a Sony timed exclusive.
Capcom was publishing lots of Sony-exclusive games.

Right now the situation is DEEPLY changed, Xbox 360 is the best selling console in the US, it managed to build its own library of games, has a very active (and loyal?) online base and, on the other hand, "PlayStation" is no longer the synonym for "videogame" in Europe.

So... why is Xbox One already deemed as a failure? Are you guys REALLY sure that the large mass of buyers care about 180° turnarounds, behind-the-curtain stories and funny animated gifs?

90% of buyers will simply buy the console if they are interested in it, regardless of whatever happened (or was about to happen) BEFORE the console arrived on the shop shelves. And this people will decide if the Xbox One will be a success or a failure. Just them, not a bunch of informated/passionate people writing on NeoGaf.

I really can't wait to see how the console will perform. I think it will be very, very interesting.

Good post. Honestly I see both consoles selling out at launch, the following months will be telling of how informed we all are. Until we get to physically handle the systems nobody will know. Great products sell themselves, and we all know after all the PR nonsense dissipates the true limitations of each system will come to light. The only issue I have with X1 is its higher price point, which will eventually drop alongside the hardware revision.

Oct launch sounds fantastic for Sony.

They were the blessed children, shielded from The Curse. As mentioned in the book of Proverbs, 12:18; "And thereunto the veil of purity shall fall, on these thirteen gifted souls of harmonics superior yet."
