Gran Turismo 6 could evolve into Gran Turismo 7 when it hits PS4, says Yamauchi

dont worry, those will be in fm6 which will still launch before any GT does on ps4.

Not bashing Forza or anything, but what if it doesn't have dynamic TOD and weather in FM6? I would love them to be in FM6 as much as the next guy but from what I can see Dan Greenawalt's interest/priorities are elsewhere. I'd love to see FM6 and GT7 launch in the same time frame, that would be brilliant. :)

Good. Fuck the cross gen BS and fully use all resources on the new hardware for a proper GT7

They will. Here are some comparisons between the crossgen GT2000 and GT3

Look at Turn 10, they could have released Forza 5 on 360 and gone after the mass userbase, but they had balls to make a next gen game.

yea 2015 release day confirmed

Turn 10 is a puppet on a string developer. Microsoft have made a mistake forcing them to put their flagship racer out half baked to get crushed by NFS at launch, it should have been a late 2014 title at the earliest.

Is Europe Forza's biggest market?

I'm so torn, I want Forza 5 but I don't want an Xbone and GT6 is only on PS3. Drive Club doesn't sound like its going to be too hot either,

GT6 Spec 2.0 on PS4 sometime in 2014, why can't it be? I don't even want updated graphics, just the immediacy that comes with PS4(faster boot up, load times, ingame xmb, not having to use 2 consoles for the next 3-4 years) is more than enough.

Imagine the shitstorm if GT6 would be released for PS4 with no graphics update.

This is what happened with GT3. GT2000 was originally just intended to be a remaster of GT2 for the PS2, but it ended up changing so much that they renamed it GT3.

And they cut the content about 80%, because most of the assets were not ready in 2001. The proper PS2 game came in 2004 with GT4.

God dammit. I really had hopes that Sony demanded they port GT6 to PS4 by the fall of 2014, but nope. It looks like Sony is still giving Polyphony a free reign, and it's gonna be years before we see a true GT on PS4.

Not smart. Sony need to do a better job of maximizing their IP.

I agree, but we´re the minority. I was about ready to accept GT6 because well "they gotta have some logic and the game will come out in september or october". Instead they are releasing it AFTER the PS4, and this is just nuts.

Please, i´ve heard all the God of War II talk and it´s nothing like it. PS3 was backwards compatible back them and GOW is an action game, where you beat and move on.

Also, blah blah blah GT2 and GT4 also came in late. Not this late, and online was non existent back then.

Of course it´s gonna sell more on PS3, but at what cost? Is it enough to justify possible franchise fatigue and sell 5-6 million this time to end up hurting the brand in the future?

Look at God of War, all these PSP releases did nothing but weakened the franchise, because now people are all "oh god, i can´t take Kratos anymore, series needs to go".

But again, we are the minority and most fans look alright at the possibility of a proper next gen GT game only in 2016 or so.

Why are they so late? Sony should have worked with them when designing the PS4, and GT6 should have had PS4 in mind from the start.

It just doesn't make any sense to me.

I agree. Imagine how far ahead they would be if they started on their next gen project in 2011? GT games are always about long legs, and i still believe a next gen GT game releasing it in 2014 has more potential in the long run than a PS3 game coming out in december of 2013, which by default will have the smaller legs of the seires, and thus smaller sales.

They wouldn't need to do that now as they're building everything with the PS4 in mind. Just look at the car model quality that they're working with, and these are still limited by PS3 specs, so they aren't even the highest end that they have

Basically, it's being targeted as GT7 internally. All things well, we'll see it by 2015. They've been working on whilst doing GT6. If they become too ambitious, it'll be GT7 Prologue essentially. We're not getting GT6 PS4; too much of a marketing and perspective mess. Next 6-8 months will be pretty crucial in terms of determing release.

That makes a lot of sense.

Hopefully no more standard cars then. Speaking of which, what is the car count for GT6 (standard and premium)?

No one knows. It's 1200 cars though. Which is the same amount that is in GT5. We KNOW it has new cars, so possibly some redundant cars dropped and many changed to premium.

Releasing in 2018.

If we are lucky!!!!

I stopped believing anything Polyphony says about their games till I see it with my own eyes and I have purchased it with my own hands.

They burnt me so bad when they promised online play many years ago then yanked it weeks prior to launch. That's the day I put my Pre order on Forza 1.

what an awful developer... they are just chasing $$$ by releasing GT6 on PS3. Look at Turn 10, they could have released Forza 5 on 360 and gone after the mass userbase, but they had balls to make a next gen game.

To sum up, PD are releasing a next-gen game on last-gen hardware, T10 are releasing a last-gen game on next-gen.

This maybe the crossover stage were PD is better positioned for future sim development, given their experience with weather, day/night etc. in GT5/6, while T10 have used the same formula for the last five iterations.

Given T10 still struggle to move away from the cartoon/plastic look, I'm not too sure they'll fare all that well with new environmental and dynamic lighting effects.

With PD's dev cycle I believe it.

It will launch on PS4 with 80% the cars simply ported over and it will be called GT7.

Why they don't just release a quick port is beyond me.

1080p 60fps, 16xAF, throw in some Bokeh and some improved lighting and boom. Launch window seller.

Not really.

I may not agree with T10's artistic direction, but you would be hard-pressed to find a game with the level of graphical fidelity that Forza 5 has running at 1080p/60fps on last gen hardware.

The great thing is the photomode models are future proof for the most part.

So going into GT7 will be an easier time for them, they'll have assets for 400 cars already.

Its absurd and laughable that PD hasn't even started working on a GT for PS4..
I mean, for starters, Polyphony will have to update ALL tracks for PS4 in some way. As they are now, only a few of them are up to next gen standards, (even more of you take into account night/day) and that my friends will take time. Lots of time.

Nope on both accounts.
It's frustrating Sony didn't push PD into PS4 development after GT5's completion, there's little doubt the fundamentals of (PS3) GT6 would make a fine PS4 title. Meanwhile, it's clear to see T10 are jumping through hoops to get a half baked Forza out for the Ones launch.

PD & T10 should have been going head to head in Q4 '14, they've both missed the boat to some degree........ the real battle is delayed a few years more.

Im going to guess it will be announced E3 2014, for a late 2014/early 2015 release.

Alot of the premium tracks just need some works done (textures, trees etc) but the modelling and position work dont need anything done. Lighting is already superb this gen (and already beats the crap out of FM5). I just cannot believe this reworked engine hasn't been engineered without the PS4 in mind.

They have stated there will be a steady stream of cars/tracks as DLC for GT6. By the end of it, my guess is they will have enough premium rated content ready for GT7.

One thing is certain. They are not going to give any hints like a release window for GT7, just in case people hold of buying GT6 and/or Driveclub.

What we know is that they've built their new engine with the PS4 in mind and several of their key programmers played a major role in the building of the console. Plus it was mentioned at gamescom that all of Sony's studios are working on something for the console. And Kaz mentioned at gamescom that it'll take a minimum of a year for GT7 to be released. So if he's already saying something like that then i'd think it was on track to hit in 2015 as many have speculated. We'll probably see it at E3 next year or TGS at the latest.

Yeah, but that is at least a few months out from launch.
True, but even a straight GT6 port to PS4 would take significant dev time given the very different architecture.

By the very nature of Gaikai, PS3 code can been streamed to PS4, meaning it should be possible the minute Gaikai goes live. Even if PD made it clear they were doing a straight GT6 port, the masses and gaming press would hammer them, they can't risk their reputation.

There is no battle really. Forza is a non-entity compared to GT. It always will be. GT is much more than a game, it's a brand.

As games, it's better if they're not releasing at the same time since developers have the chance to take things from the other game if it worked well.

The forza/gran turismo issue is basically the only reason I am a little bummed about getting a ps4 instead of XB1

Why?

GT is on a league of its own. Driveclub look better than Forza visually and seems like a good arcade racer just like Forza.

It was mentioned by Yoshida

4gamer: A driving game called “Driveclub” has been announced as [a coming up] PS4 software. However, in Japan there’s Polyphony Digital and I think many people are looking forward to an announcement regarding *that* racing game. What [can you tell us] about this?

Yoshida: Key members of Polyphony Digital are involved in the very development of the PS4 and the PS Vita.

They aren't straight sales rivals, but amongst the sim community, and those who follow real life motorsport, the Forza franchise has been taking significant support away from Gran Turismo. The GT5 vs FM4 face-off didn't put PD in the best light, they seemed to have misread what their audience wanted in terms of car selection, engine sound reproduction etc.

GT6 seems to have addressed much of that, even the sound dpt is getting a major overhaul (benefits may only be heard in GT7). In the other corner T10 seems to be finding it increasingly difficult to justify their stance on weather, dynamic lighting etc., their excellent car selection and sound reproduction is now taken as a given.
