Microsoft clarifies: FIFA 14 only free for pre-orders in "Tier 1" countries

Microsoft continuing to shit on "tier2" and below countries, why the fuck would anyone from those countries reward them for that?

Seriously? Microsoft needs to come out and offer or comment on US/Canada. I feel fuckin cheated since I don't live in EU. Is my money just not as important to them?

What the fuck.

You should visit a European Marketplace that is not UK one of these days.

You know.

Don't forget it's also only 'while stock lasts'.

MS sure made the future launch of their console more confusing that it needs to be.

I checked on most hardware websites here in France and there's no mention of free game included with the console so far. Tell me I get Fifa 2014 + another game and I'd order in a heartbeat.

Seems like NA preorder numbers are good. Oh and $499 = 373 € but instead we pay 499 €. The free game just reduces the premium price we have to pay in Europe. Even with taxes included X1 should not cost more than 450 € compared to the US.

Based on what exactly? Why shouldn't it cost more than 450€? This is something that will come up more and more in a global world. You can't really compare the US/Canada with say Germany or the UK. The population, number of consumers is way different. They need to maintain profit margins which is why they probably priced the way they did. Incorporating all things like retail costs, distribution, manufacturing, advertising costs etc.

Sure some things are cheaper in NA than in the EU, but then other things are cheaper there than they are here.

They are doing it in EU because they wre getting slain in pre-orders (if the ratio figures were true). NA seems more "safe" and would be even more expensive for them to pay for all the unsold copies of games there too.

Makes more sense now. I was wondering why they would give people 2 (3?) games in tier 2 countries.... and quite a while after fifa's launch at that.

omg @ 20%.. fuck dat lol
Just to educate you a bit, friend. When I'd like to import some electronics from the US, I have to pay:
- the price of the thing (let's say X1)
- 23% of VAT tax (rate in my country, one of the highest in EU)
- the shipping cost (around $100 I think), Amazon calls it "shipping fee" and it includes paperwork at the duty office, etc. this is to prevent people who have obviously thought about this a long time before you (no offence) from mass importing.
- duty tax - from US to EU it's 0% but not the same for every country.

Then I'd have to cope not only with a different power plug but probably also a transformer from 115 to 230V (they're big, ugly and they buzz a lot). I don't know if X1 PSU is universal or not. Some things are, some aren't.

That's why you won't see mass import of electronics from the US, even though some people do it when they travel overseas. A lot of people buy Apple devices on their way back and they say it can refund them plane tickets, so it's quite a big deal. But then they obviously don't pay any taxes as they claim those devices to be for personal use.

On top of all that, you could say goodbye to any warranty, which is not a wise thing in case of a launch batch of consoles.

It is, which makes even less sense. I guess this means that it's possible that some who preorder won't get FIFA.

This is like the tenth time I've seen someone bring up the "but..it's a digital copy" thing. You have to pre-order a console in order to get that copy. The stock of that console won't last forever. It makes a lot of sense and it really isn't that hard to understand unless you don't want to.

So that makes it okay? I'm not asking why, the point is customer perception. As a customer I feel slighted, and anyone not receiving similar treatment should as well.

I'm guessing they mean 'while HARDWARE stocks last" aka only until the preorder quotas are met. It's not the best or the smartest use of the phrase as it can confuse readers due to how it's used regularly, since usually it's about the additional content/bonus you get and not the product itself

FIFA included was the big news for MS at gamecon. Did any of you Europe see it had any effect antidote within your circle since the announcement ?

Most of my friends don't care enough about FIFA for it to make a difference and those who do still realise that a PS4+FIFA is cheaper.

Anecdotal only.

Isn't a PS4 with a bought copy of FIFA still cheaper, or am miscalculating the value add?

Some people (few?) will consider this offer better than PS4 because of Kinect.

I'm in the USA. All I want to know is if I'm getting that free Fifa 14. Yes or no? I seriously want that game for free.

Not gonna happen (at least not with FIFA). MS isn't charity, and FIFA is not popular in US so no point in wasting money.

Thought Emoji Movie was good. Take that as you will.
Well, they could you know.. include nothing?

If I was over there, free Fifa would push me to pre-order instead of wait and see if there's stock.

Don't really care about Fifa, but great new's for European countries. Still wished the U.S includes a free game, MS has to step their game up some more to entice more people to buy their system.

Aren't they pretty much sold out on pre-orders in the US for this year, anyways? Why would MS waste money on people who already decided to buy their console with out a free game? If all you care about is money, then its obvious why they aren't giving FIFA away in the US. If you care about your customers then you will fear alienating them, and avoid that as much as possible.

Its like when an inexperienced parent buys candy Jonny and then wonders why Timmy is throwing a fit.

As much as I'd like us to get a free game here in the US, there's zero chance I'd ever touch FIFA. I could see them striking a deal for Madden over here, but I'd never touch that either. I could go for a racing game though (Forza). I probably wouldn't pay $60 for one, but for free I'd play it.

If anything, shouldn't they be trying to compensate for their delay by giving FIFA to the 2014 launch countries?

My strategy for owning an Xbox one
1) wait for console to bomba, if not bomba then go to 2
2) play ps4 till bone rrp dips below 249.99

Where it launches in 2014 they get 2 free games. But I don't expect any actual fact checking to go on in this thread.
If they had it pre-ordered before GAMESCOM, while in tier 1 countries you can pre-order it right now and get FIFA14 for free, that is rather big difference. Am I missing something?
