The Wonderful 101 |OT| Diplomacy has failed

Game is way too fucking hard. Maybe I've gone shit because I used to destroy games like Bayonetta and Devil may cry. Way to much shit going on screen. Still love the game but damn the scoring is brutal. One hit and your fucked.

Oh dear lord... I just spent FOUR HOURS doing ONE secret mission in 003-B. The one with the three (minor enemy spoiler)
dragons
on Hard difficulty. Haven't had this hard a challenge in quite a while, sheesh. I was getting really frustrated at the game and almost thought I started disliking it (and the boss stages are completely ridiculous if you're trying not to use continues on Hard) but I think it's just down to practice in order to have fun with it again.

Still, getting demolished by enemies in this game is also some of the least fun I've had in a video game recently. Just way too much shit going on to the point where I can't even tell where my character is, let alone dodge certain attacks because the audio cues are just too vague at times and relying on visuals is completely impossible. Maybe I just need more time with the game, even though you'd think 20 hours would be enough to at least dodge basic attacks by basic enemies - but nope!

this is a very good advice for the NA crowd still waiting.

You'll be amazed at the pressentation.

The game is worthy of a WE marathon / calling sick/ taking two days off.

It's the first PG* game that feels like story/gameplay are meshed so well, that you can't/shouldn't think of it as a simple masterfull technical achievement where you get a kick out of "getting" the controls right after several playthroughs.

No, you get that insane SP/story mode that just keeps on giving.

this is a AAA game in the broader sense, and not a simple AAA action game.

and yes, I luuuuvvv everything in this game.

I'm the guy that gave the game a 9.5 on IGN Italia and i'm a proud member of NeoGAF since 2006. :p

Trust me, you will LOVE this game.

Wonder Fantasia totally is NiGHTS into Dreams.

I hate NOA sooooooo much :(
and region locks

Try abusing unite bomb as your secondary morph. I killed 3 bigger enemies at once without being even touched.

Yep, pretty good tactic. I tend to mark them first with unite gun or the group attack and then throw a timebomb at them with x. Once the time freezes hell breaks loose. :D
(Unite Attack/Unite mixes/multiple morphs and mines) Oh and buy the hero time for some extra freezes while evading.

Right! :D RT @krokounleashed: @LanzAlentzia Isn't the game meant to be played from the perspective of a kid playing with his toys?

Did we know this?

I do that all the time, but it takes quite a while to draw and has a pretty high failure-rate for me. I guess I need to refine my input technique. Also, against the fast enemies I just primary that shit and spam out the fast attack to stun them. Having it secondary is way too risky against them considering how easily they get away.

Edit: Hahaha, holy shit. Holding my Dual Shock 3 after having used the Wii U Gamepad exclusively for a couple of days feels like holding a controller designed for midgets. Pretty sure the Wii U pad is more stressful on my hands though, so I don't want to get too used to it :(

Holy shit, just went through the first act of Operation 2... the game really ups itself here. First operation was really a cakewalk next to the beginning of operation 2.

Wonder Pink is sexy!

The Wonderful 101 is the game many Wii U owners have been waiting for. It showcases things that are only possible on Wii U. More than that though, it manages to be a good game in its own right. These are the games we used to thrive on; it conjures up feelings of Billy Hatcher, Beyond Good and Evil or Stranger’s Wrath.

This is a game that’ll jump start the generation for some, but will go entirely ignore by others. Some will even actively run it down, because it doesn’t tick the most obvious boxes. Those people are missing out – The Wonderful 101 is a gem. It needs a little polish, but you can definitely see something special shining through.

Just played the same section and actually switched to easy difficulty...

It's madness!

I think I will stick to easy for the first playthrough, though. At least until I have unlocked better stuff.

How about having bomb as your primary and sword as secondary assist morphs, since the lines are easier to draw. The multiplier really starts going up, and then you got a bunch of electric swords going in. Top that off with some Hero Time dodging when opportune, baby, you got a stew going!

I have the same feeling but I'm just enjoying the ride. Just do that the first time and when its over start it again with more experience. I'd rather have the feeling Im not getting the full experience, than being burned out on it before I even finish it.

I'll keep hanging in there because the game is so damn awesome. But I get my ass whooped all of the time. Still a big smile on my face though.

My strategie with 100 members on unshelled enemies :
unite bomb and then wonderful forever

Works good enough on hard.

I just realized someone quoted my twitter question on this page lol.

Hey!

I've just bought a WiiU PRO コントローラー and got a code from JPN NinClub that I can't use!

So, I'll give this code to the first one to post a picture of your copy of W101 or a Miiverse post on the W101 community and link it here. ;-)

Tip for americans: After seeing some videos on youtube my loading times seem to be far better than most of what i saw. I guess having the digital version really makes a difference here.

Damn, another
punch out
fight? And in some kind of
megazord
style thing?

I fucking love this game, shame there's only one more operation to go.

Well hello there, Wonder Pink! *drools*

I died a lot in OP 2a.. this game is kicking my ass on normal. well, at least I got enough cash to buy speed liner skill now! :D

Boss spoiler question:
Tip on how to tackle the unite prince? are certain unites particularly good against his unites, or do i just have to not get hit?

how do you unite build? I'm midway through the hydra boss fight ( you've all seen him in trailers - no spoiler tag necessary) no idea how to do it.

just til your right analogue against the highlighted spot, and fill her up

About to start the last operation. Pretty hyped after some of the teases in this thread. What a fantastic game it's been so far, can't wait to start all over again on hard.

Some pics I made at miiverse... all early in the game so no real spoilers.

I just beat the game on normal. PROTECT THE EARTH.

Now I need to get my ranks up on that difficulty, so much left to do!

Been playing on Normal. Have been getting my butt kicked a lot, though no longer actually dying, so that's something. Just about to finish Operation 006...taking my time.

I am loving this game. It's everything we've needed from Nintendo
-New IP
-Story focused game
-DIFFICULT
-Gorgeous
-Hilarious

It's a shame so few people will actually play it.

I'm liking the sound of this game more and more.

Sadly, it looks like the game's first week sales in Japan weren't so wonderful according to Japan's Tsutaya major retailer. We'll find out on Wednesday from Media Create, but reports from Tsutaya show it placed 16th on the chart, and sold worse than Killer is Dead (which placed higher on the chart during its first week, but only had 17k copies sold). I hear the game only has 30k copies available for its first shipment in Japan.

goddamnit japan... I hope Europe and the US is smarter than this but I'm afraid.

Well at least they can't take away this game from us. But still. This deserves a big audience. This game is everything that gaming should be!

Slowly but surely I can feel myself getting better and better. Playing on normal, but it's very doable so far. I'm absolutely in love with the game, I'd say the only downside (I said offscreen hits last time, but I've learned to counter them by the sound they make) is that the framerate isn't too stable. Good enough for sure, but not quite 60 frames. Considering what goes on at all times, I'm not surprised though.

Even if this sells like shit, this is destined to become a classic. I think people will be talking about this one for a long time and it'll become a great showcase for why reviews suck.

Has the OST been uploaded anywhere yet? I want to listen to that choir style music that gets played every now and then, it always fits fucking perfectly and I'd like to hear the full version.

Yeah, we're fortunate Nintendo didn't pull a "Not being localized" stunt on us for Wonderful 101. I do think it will bomb here in North America, and I have low expectations for Pikmin 3's sales performance as well. New releases like Disney Infinity, Saint's Row 4, Madden NFL, and Splinter Cell are going to fill up the top 10 for August along with some older titles too.

I'm in NA, so I'm still just playing the demo, which is awesome and all.
Anyways, I see people talking about using their index finger to draw on the pad, but I have always just used my right thumb for that, with my fingers still supporting the right side of the gamepad.
Just wondering if other people do it that way, because I don't think I'd like letting go of the pad with the right hand and drawing with my finger.
In the middle of battle. 'ef that.

I draw on the screen for some things and use the stick for some things, and so far I feel like the limits on what I can do are down to my skill with it.

Thanks to everyone for posting impressions and lots of (no doubt) fascinating info in spoiler tags which I am willing myself to not read. I'm currently looking into the possibility of entering a hypersleep or cryogenic stasis of some kind until the freaking fifteenth!

I still draw with my right index finger. I don't know. It just works for me. I'm very fast with it (heh). I mean, the game slows down anyway when you draw something and for me its enough time. I almost never make a mistake when I draw a sword, fist, whip, gun or whatever. So I don't see the problem.

Now would your score get even more perfect if you master the joystiq drawing, thus never having to let go of the controller with your right hand and always being able to watch the screen? Probably. But its good enough for me to just draw with my finger.

Just my two cents.

So I finally managed to get the game (physcial copy hell yeah). And I just finished operation 002... I think I'm starting to get why people are saying this is a better game than Bayonetta, though I wouldn't go that far just yet. It is pretty wonderful though. This and Pikmin 3 easily justify the Wii U in my eyes. And honestly this is the first game that wowed me with its use of the gamepad.

Can't wait to play more!

Haha that part was doing my head in as well, I tried throwing the bomb at it to slow it down and then quickly get the whip out and grab it but the whip just wouldn't attach to the hook.

After around 30 mins trying that bomb/whip method I was just flipped and forced my way up to that platform using the wonderful rising attack twice with Blue, then changed to Red to attack so i'd get at the right level, and then finally changed to Yellow because you'll notice there's a circle blob at the top and a command to hit will appear, when Yellow smashed his hammer down the platform bent towards me and I was able to get onto that platform. Sounds so bizarre but I ran out of ideas on how to grab that hook, still haven't got a clue whether my method is the legit way or not.

If you've got the rocket ability try shooting up then quickly change to Yellow to smash the platform towards you, then quickly press ZR to get on the platform.

Actually you just have to go away from it as if you get close it'll just disappear. If you stay far, the whip will just grab on to the hook.
