Hey, how come Sony didn't invest in any big 3rd party exclusives?

Xbox One is getting DR3, RYSE, Titanfall and that Insomniac game exclusively. Sony has a lot of good games too, but nothing exclusive from 3rd parties. Seems like Sony invested a lot of money into smaller indie games but most people don't care about those.

Why couldn't they just get 1 or 2 exclusive 3rd parties? They are good with Ubisoft maybe they should have paid them more to get Watch Dogs to release early on the PS4.

Well...They are getting third party exclusives.

I rather want Sony to put money in their own 1st party exclusives instead of moneyhating other publishers/developers to prevent a game coming to more platforms.

Sony knows they can't outspend Microsoft to buy up 3rd party exclusives, so they're focusing on their own studios.

I couldn't give a crap about hardly any of the indie games because I'm not one of you gaming hipsters. The PS4 still has better hardware, better online and games I want (bar Titanfall).

Because they have the best and biggest lineup of first-party studios on the planet?

Why spend money on exclusivity for another person's intellectual property when they can use their own IPs or have their creators make new ones.

they are banking on multiplat releases and want to differentiate themselves with first party games.

How do you know it has better online?

They don't need to release the big guns. They probably have deals but are not going to announce anything until the game release within 12-18 months. They got burned announcing things that never came out.

Lol ok

Btw lesson learned as yop said was as install base grows, you can't rely on 3rd parties for exclusives as it becomes to expensive. Hence they spend money on expanding and development of first party

yea probably money issues. Sony' couldn't even money hat Final Fantasy XV or Kingdom Hearts 3....

the company has been struggling for years

Sony has never been one to invest heavily in exclusive 3rd party content. They've always been more about "you want to give us this content/game because it's Playstation"

They devote those funds to their internal teams instead. Which is good!

Because they've got plenty of big first-party titles on the way. While both are guilty of the exclusive content bullshit which I hate, Sony it seems would rather invest the tens of millions MS have paid in timed and third party exclusives into their own in-house developers and projects.

They don't really have to. They have japan on lock and they rely on a healthy supply of 1st and 2nd party titles and studios.

MS does it the opposite way because that's how they've always done it since they entered the industry. They would much rather buy other people's games even for a limited time than create a strong stable of internal studios. They're like the Yankees, buying high caliber free agents instead of keeping a strong farm system. The problem with this way is you're gambling that the studio/player you buy is going to live up to its name and put out a smash hit to justify your tens or hundreds of millions of dollars.

They are getting Watch_Dogs 1 week earlier in US

99% of its online features aren't behind a paywall.

I'd say Multiplayer is a pretty bigger percentage in a gaming console.

Also 3rd party titles jump ship. All the non Sony owned indies and TitanFall, Sunset Overdrive, Dead Rising 3 and Titan Fall could appear on rival platforms.

They don;t have too, they have the best studios in the industry!!!

name one developer that can outdue gorilla games or naughtydog?

They are third party games because they were made by third party developers. Publishing has nothing to do with it, remember Mass Effect?

They don't have the warchest that MS has. Sony proper has been struggling for years, man.

You mean MS with first party offerings..? Yeah they've been struggling for years on that end. MS is foolish if they think throwing money at a problem and coming up with a random developer like Black Tusk is going to give them their own "Naughty Dog." A studio like Naught Dog can't just be bought. Pretty sure MS would love to buy Naughty Dog though.

Because they actually have good first party studios. MS is tracking behind Sony even with all these moneyhats, I can't imagine without.

All but Titanfall are Microsoft published, not third party.

If they count, then Sony published games from external developers also count - and there are several such PS4 games announced to date.
