By Gonzo? I can't wait to see those amazing CGI effects of theirs!

Despite the animation studio, I am looking forward to this

Nope, they had Gankutsuou in 2004 which was fantastic.

Just glossed over this...but then I recalled "Gonzo, haven't I heard that name before?" And then it hit me right now...THE PEOPLE WHO MADE GANKUTSUOU ARE MAKING THIS?" and my interest skyrocketed.

edit: Wait, Gonzo is bad? Okay, now I'm wondering what happened between Gankutsuou and now. I didn't get Gankutsuou because I like anime, but because it was Japanese sci-fi Count of Monte Cristo :p So I'm not versed in anime, so oops.

Madhouse did the DMC series

Possibly the only worse choice

Madhouse has some awesome shit in their resume: Paprika, Paranoia Agent, Perfect Blue, Trigun, Black Lagoon, Claymore, Chihayafuru, Summer Wars, Highschool of the Dead (so bad but so good).

Same people don't work at the studio, Gonzo has always been generally bad throughout their history outside of a few key works.

No, I don't believe anyone involved in Gankutsuou are involved in this movie. Most anime studios are not monolithic entities where the same people work on all the productions; you have entirely different teams of people working on different productions at the same studio, especially as much of the anime industry is made up of freelancers, so quality can very widely as a result. There are studios which produce lower-quality work on average due to poor producers, poor connections, poor work methods, but there is no studio immune to producing bad works (which should be recognized by the people in here calling for Madhouse or Production I.G. - take a look at some of the licensed property work they've done such as Marvel and Mass Effect), nor is there any studio that is not theoretically capable of producing a good work assuming the right people and right production schedule.

Thankfully with Bayonetta we already have a cute little girl so they don't need to fabricate one.

I thought Patty was a cute addition to the series and I wished they added her into a future DMC game. Not like it went full moe on us with her. Anime was still very DMC in tone. Although the one thing I didn't like was how...subdued Dante was. He wasn't lame and creepy silent like his DMC2 incarnation but it was like he hardly gave a damn about anything throughout the entire series. But the main threats in the series weren't much of a threat. Maybe that's how he is when he's not fighting demon lords and evil popes.

Ah, thanks for the insight. Didn't know about freelancers and such, that would be an issue in retaining a certain level of quality all the time. But Gankutsuou was so nice, seems like they had the right people at the right time when making that one.

Not to mention they did some of the Hellsing Ultimate episodes, and DAMN they look great on Blu-Ray. There's simply no comparison between them and Gonzo.

The people in here that aren't massive anime fans shouldn't worry about Gonzo doing it. They can make stuff that casual anime fans love like Afro Samurai, even if this won't have the massive budget that had.

They're also doing Hunter x Hunter, the only consistently well-animated long-running shounen in existence.

"only" is unfair.

I'm sure others could be just as consistent if they weren't limited by the progression of the source material

The strangest thing I dont get is why is SEGA involved in this, they already told platinum to fuck off and now they're pimping Bayo's character out when it comes close to the Wii-U debut?

Seriously fuck SEGA.

Yeah maybe, though poor pacing and poor animation don't always go hand in hand.

well yeah but I mean when you're literally stalling for time while a manga arc concludes dips in quality are to be expected.
