Well it's not his fault the graphical showpiece of the xb1 is a converted 360 kinect game.

How they use Vertices is irrelevant to our discussion.
Some people are just wrong in their limitied knowledge because we can't just apply math term here.

Polygon is triangle in computer graphics, because GPU renders objects in multiple three side faces.

Although you are correct in that a GPU renders objects in triangle, it does not change the fact that Many design tools such as Maya and 3DS Max use Quads for modelling as polygons then there is a clear differential in the design stage and most certainly it is not equivalency between Polys and Triangles, it can be, but to assume it is would just be incorrect.

At E3, it was all smoke and mirrors, from both sides to some degree.

In the intervening period, builds more in tune to what we'll actually see have been shown, each new build for PS4 exclusives has delivered improved IQ, effects, framerates etc. Not inconsequential developments, only noticeable with side-by-side comparison, but notable improvements.

Even if Ryse does spend such a large portion of it's budget on the main character, so what? In the end that just means that they decided to do so. It's not like it proves and equivalency or deficiency between the systems.

and again character model fetishism: The Order has what seem to be higher detail models than Ryse. By a noticeable margin.

So again even if we take the triangles = polygons at face value... ok?

Good to hear they used actual games to determine what direction to take their upgrades to the hardware. Pretty much the only thing of interest in the article. Games will look great on both consoles and the rest is just for pointless arguments.
 
unflattering? I actually went out of my way to find the most flattering gifs of Ryse I could find.

If I wanted to find unflattering Ryse GIFS I could have used a lot better material. Most of the footage for KZ:SF is multiplayer too, by the way. If I wanted to be particularly harsh I would have posted Ryse MP compared to KZ MP.

Why go crazy about character models anyway? choosing that hill to die on is weird considering the Sorcerer tech demo for PS4, or the characters models for The Order clearly trumping Ryse (and are confirmed as the same models in cutscene and gameplay by Ready at Dawn).

There's no secret sauce, whatever Crytek is doing on Xbox One (regardless of if Ryse ends up even being a good game or not) is perfectly able to be replicated and improved on the PS4.

If cutscenes running in real time in-engine count now then we might as well post Quantum Break in here too.

Just so you know, InFamous Second Son is currently running at around 50+fps average. Whilst they are said to be targeting 30fps, it is currently running at roughly double that. Which at the very least implies that they have a massive amount of leeway for further polish.

Well Crytek is the one citing their highest LOD/cutscene model for Marcus, take it up with them.

EDIT: And we just saw a post showing the highest LOD/cutscene models for Ryse yet again, so why not for the Order?

Furthermore, it doesn't change the end situation, that being that the Xbox One is a healthy margin weaker than the PS4. Don't doubt either consoles ability to deliver something that looks good, but it is what it is.

At best those look on par with what I posted. I tried to keep the GIFS a similar size for comparison.

The larger gifs just magnify Ryse's flaws. The grass pics in particular don't do it any favors.

On a side note, based on those GIF's it almost comes off as a beat em up style game, very close quarters and funnelled. Honestly hope they open up levels a bit more and push out more on screen similar to the original reveal demo only even more.

Which could be needed. Infamous looks very good but it is more effects than massive polycount. I think technically it's not that massive but it definitely looks nice.

And, zen, of course we know that the PS4 can likely replicate or even better anything the Xbox One is doing, but that kinda wasn't the point, though. It was to showcase that the Xbox One is a pretty damn capable machine in it's own right. Because we do that PS4 can run it better thing, we'll be doing it all gen, because it will most likely always be true in some way. Hell, how's the PS4 version of Halo 5 coming along? Maybe a bit better than the Xbox One version? I don't know :p

There is of course a difference that RAD have said those are the in game character models.

It's quite a distinctive difference and remember as soon as Quantum Break get's involved you open the door to the dark sorcerer, which is a half ported PS3 engine...
 
Does it have information, sure. Is it ultimately still something of a puff piece, most assuredly. It really doesn't help that in the prior article, Leadbetter, essentially parroted the same line about the XB1 being balanced and wrote something to the effect of the PS4 being unbalanced.

I've heard it mentioned on a few podcasts now, and I've seen other evidence, such as Ledbetter comments as you mentioned, that Microsoft has regular contact with members of the press. I've heard people on podcasts routinely mention having been visited by Mark Whitten, given closed door demos of the OS, etc.

It really gives you the impression Microsoft's outreach goes a long way. I really think Sony lags behind them in that stuff. When you develop personal relationships with the editors at various sites, you're bound to get more favorable coverage and parroting of the lines you've fed them time and time again.

The Xbox One GPU has 14 CUs with 2 disabled
Bonair in a 7790 has 14 CUs fully enabled

So the numbers are actually more favorable to the Xbox One than they should be.

That would be cool if you could fly that helicopter to any of those buildings in the distance, hop out and start blasting enemies from the rooftops, all with the same fidelity shown in that video. If so then that truly is next gen and not just smoke and mirrors.

So it's either an open world game, or it's smoke and mirrors? What matters is that what you see looks good.

Actually, it isn't "pointless".

Maybe not if you're far too invested in one console or company. If you're in a position that you have to choose one for monetary reasons or otherwise you're waiting to see what finished games look like side by side, or you're waiting for exclusives or services to make the choice for you. People arguing are doing it because they enjoy debating technical intricacies or they have some sort of agenda. I wouldn't say either motivation will produce a meaningful point to people who want to play games.
 
shadow fall is pushing for more characters. 60 ai characters in the demo. real-time reflections, every light is volumetric, every particle renders shadows.

not to mention the demo is months old. one character model alone does not make ryse look better.

Don't worry, I know how ridiculous that was. It was just to make a very basic point of how little sense I think certain kinds of comparisons make.

For now!! But there will be blood next time. I took a crash course on how to make my own gifs. Have you ever seen a 900p gif!? Joking lol. I was on the verge of posting a gladiator picture and passing it off as Ryse. :p

Generally, I think we can all have a lot more fun with this than we normally do. I know the arguing has to be exhausting lol.

So this has become a Microsoft vs Sony thread now?

Well, the reason why I _personally_ go for a PlayStation 4 are:
- Sony has been doing very well in the last few years, with great exclusives
- Sony's support has always been much better in Europe than Microsoft's - I'm talking multimedia here. But also online: Xbox Live is of absolutely o added value in Europe except for being able to go online, while PlayStation Plus offers real value.
- PS4 is €100 cheaper
- PS4 launches this year, Xbox One doesn't (where I live, Western-Europe, Holland).

That said, I perfectly understand why someone would buy an Xbox One. It is his/her personal decision and who am I to say: "What's wrong with you?! PS4 all the way!"?
Some people simply prefer Xbox exclusives above PlayStation exclusives, some people prefer the Xbox controller above the PlayStation controller, etc.

As I mentioned: the Xbox One is not for me, I'll get a PlayStation 4 - but I don't get mad at someone who is going to buy an Xbox One. Long live free choice.

Trumps in exactly what way? You think that they have more than 150k polys? Because i doubt it. Show me full model of The Order character, not just head next time, then we will be able to compare.

And of course PS4 could run Ryse better than Xbone, its stronger hardware. But thats the thing, its not about hardware power here, but engine. CryEngine 3 has much more optimized features that compensate for Xbone hardware weaknesses.

No, there is no footage of KZ:SF running in 60fps. We have footage of KZ:SF running in unlocked framerate that is hitting 60fps when player is looking at sky and hitting 30-40 when its in combat. Thats not double the framerate, double the frame is stable 60fps. Show me footage with stable 60fps.

Rest of post is just hilarious and stupid. There is exactly explained what i meant in terms of geometry. And say hey to LoD, but You know, there is difference between having LoD from 150k to probably 60-70, to 5-10k than from 1m to 500k and than to 200k, then to 70k etc. Overhead is much, much bigger.

Also where i said that Ryse has LoD0 characters in every distance? No game can do that.

Ps. Ryse being more linear doesnt matter. For CryEngine 3 there is no difference if game is linear or open world, it would just change LOD transitions on geometry - thats the only thing that would be noticeable. And if You dont believe just download free SDK.

I was *really* surprised to read they used 150k tris for the guy in Ryse ...

...and I'm amazed how much people are "defending" Ryse (in the graphical compartment) !
