Just a question, I noticed people saying their PC can run WD at 120fps @ 4k etc etc, have specs been announced or is this just a assumption?

Considering Assassins Creed III couldn't maintain 60 fps on even the best CPUs (my 4.8 ghz i5 2500k would drop to 35 fps at times lol) anybody who thinks a next-gen open world Ubisoft engine will run at 120 fps on their PC regardless of resolution is kidding themself. I'll be very surprised if I get a solid 60 fps at 1080p with my 7970.

I thought "why isn't this nickname greyed out yet?" because I'm a PS4 fan and I'm offended. I was called an asshole for no reason, even before I decided to add my five cents. I also have a PC, it runs games fine. But I chose to be a console gamer for my reasons and I refuse to be called names because of my choices. It'd be even worse if I couldn't afford my PC because then it's not only being a dick but also laughing at somebody being poor. And there are lots and lots of folks here who can't afford to "join the master race". Maybe they'd want to but can't. Does it make you feel better, PC community? Because for me it's disgusting.

People like that are doing a huge disservice to the PC community. Why would I want to play games with people like this guy? Add them on Steam? Exchange opinions? Yesterday I saw BF4 beta thread created and I went there to check because it's exactly my interests. What I saw was a total offtopic about PC specs, mouse DPIs and things like that. I come here and I see the same, PC controllers, WSAD discussions and PC people calling others names. If PC users want to show how classy they are, why not stay away from console wars? It won't bring you glory, just more dirt under your nails.

This is cute and all, but what about the guy I quoted who actually did call people "snobbish assholes"?

If Blacklist is any indication, working with Nvidia is improving their PC ports. They are doing similar thing with Watch Dogs, so hopefully we see similar results.

Assassins : http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0112401/
(the movie is not as good as this gif).

It's a Sylvester Stallone so that truly speaks volumes.

Are we really going to push for people to be banned now because it's possible to take offense to something they said despite there being some validity to it? That user did not say "all" or "every" PS4 fan, he spoke of what you very well know that there are fanboys waiting to gloat over the PS4's power despite the whole world knowing it's clearly more powerful than the Xbox One. He did not insult you and it's sad to want to someone who has made multiple valid points banned purely because it's possible to take offense.

Your post and many of the others complaining about PC gamers responses seem like massive overreactions. This is not some sacred thread that was shitted on by PC gamers, most of the reactions simply stated that the PC version will be the definitive version. There was little to no actually bragging, just people responding to a very ambiguous topic title and article in a very natural way given the way it's written.

Many of the worst posts in this topic are ones that generalize PC gamers. Am I going to call for bans because some of them might offend me? No because that's not the correct way to handle things. I would prefer to not have to be scared to point out negative behaviors of large parts of fanbases because offense might be taken despite the validity of a point leading to an unfair ban. That user does not deserve to be banned for that post, look at his history and see he's not some troll or just attacking people. Many shared a similar sentiment that there's a bit of hypocrisy coming from the fans who want to gloat but don't want anybody else to be able to.

Might as well get used to it. With the way things are going, the mud slinging is just going to ramp up leading to the launch and well after. And you can best believe there will continue to be causalities on all sides of the fence. Doubt that going to change anytime soon

This thread is unbelievable, in a bad sense. Unfortunately it's the same with a growing number of threads on GAF. We get a thread about (dis)parity of the two next gens and it takes a milisecond for the PC people to come in and start their song. It really, really needs to stop.

Every sane person knows that a maxed out PC will outperform consoles in any multiplatform game, even if it's a bad port. Nobody questions it, nobody says it's not going to happen. The problem is that a lot of people are now facing a decision to choose a console for the next generation. Specs seem to be very clear and anybody with just a bit of reasoning and understanding of numbers should be adamantly sure PS4 is significantly more powerful. However, there is a large group of people here, including some Microsoft officials, who deny that obvious fact. They even go further as to create FUD and confusion to the contrary of the statement. At the same time, developers can't officially confirm or negate anything because it's against simple rules of running businesses. That's why we need threads about (dis)parity and multiplatform game comparisons. They're not a pissing contest and it's not about who wins. It's about people who may sink a lot of money in a console which will then become a worse choice for them. You can't trust reviews and gaming journos these days because most of them have no integrity and will write anything which brings them more clicks, readers, viewers, likes or whatnot. If you can't trust your fellow GAFfers, we're really done.

Why does the "definite version" quote not include PC? Because the gaming industry is mostly about consoles. PC people should know that they're a minority. A growing, very vocal but still minority. And the way to expand your platform is not by waving your dicks around. This only offends people. When I came here and read:

When there are comparisons between the PS4 and Xbox One I would understand the complaints if PC gamers took over a topic but this article is very poorly written and tells us just about nothing. I don't even understand the drama in your post about wanting to find out which console is more powerful, we all know which one is because the specs are inarguable. None of the MS people ever claimed that the Xbox One was more powerful, just that it wasn't as big a difference as some are assuming based on the 50% more flops the PS4 GPU has.

So you're saying PC gamers are like a minority with offensively big dicks? That sounds kind of racist.

I don't know, man. I'm predominantly a console gamer, like you apparently, but after reading that thread title my first thought was "What? There's no PC version?" The thread title might as well have been "Pink is the reddest color". You can't blame people jumping in and asking "what about red?"

Fixed.

People that fight the system war in the name of PC are always speaking of "the PC" as a singular entity. They argue with super expensive hardware that most of them will never own and dealing with these people is just a pain in the ass. If you buy a PS4 then every version of this game will look the same. But if you buy a PC then the graphics will depend on a lot of different factors, mostly the money you can spend. Many PC gamers always try to obscure this fact. "Well, I have only a HD6870 and I'm playing in 1680x1050, but, hey, look at dat Titan! PS4 is crap!".

They're deceiving themselves if they really think that the PC version of Watch Dogs will run better in any case.
Thanks for saying everything I wanted to.

With quality hardware it can easily run better. It's 30fps on PS4.

And the main factor that affects how it runs isn't money, it's your choices of how to run it. You could play at 10fps or 120fps, whatever you prefer, customization is the real benefit of pc in addition to the potential of getting the best looking and performing version.

"PS4 version is the best" Yaaay
"Wait, what about the PC version?" Grrh, elitist.

The article i clearly talking about console versions.

Its common sense that the Pc version would be the best. The thing is the majority will buy the game on consoles so would want to know which console version is the best.

I think that dealing with this argument is a pain in the ass, your entire argument is conjecture. A lot more PC gamers play games in 1080p or higher than you think and it doesn't take "super expensive" hardware at all. Either way being able to customize the graphics settings, being able to maintain a higher FPS than the consoles (especially when console games stay at 30 FPS), and being able to have the best graphics period make PC versions of multiplats the definitive one.

"Graphically definitive" does not mean in relation to price, it means in general. Your assumption that "most" vocal PC gamers don't actually have good computers couldn't be more baseless. PC gaming is very big at the moment and it's not very expensive to get a capable PC that will last for a long time.

Why do people get upset when "PC" is factored into the equation? Anytime words like "definitive" (or phrases like "best-looking") are thrown around, you know that SOMEONE is going to bring up the PC.

Most PC gamers don't have top tier rigs. Check out the Steam data on their users if you need any proof. And the main point of our argument is not price, it's that people can't take a hint that PC isn't relevant in console threads for MANY reasons (of which you just provided 3). When the performance of a game can always potentially be better on PC, what the hell is the point of bringing it up? This goes double for threads that are CLEARLY ABOUT CONSOLES (reading comprehension, how does it work?). No one cares. You are adding nothing to the thread. You are actually derailing the thread. It is not wanted or appreciated by the majority of users in these threads. Knowing all this, why should it be posted at all?

(And really, could you easily build me a rig that will outperform the PS4 for a similar price? I'll pay you $100 to build me a list.)

Edit: Going to bed. Continue the derailment without me.

Thread de-railed on first post, 13 pages later people are still bitching about PC vs Consoles and how PC users are all elitist

PC>Consoles in terms of maximum power and it goes without saying so why are people even bothering to speak about it, when I spend 500$ on my GPU I damn well expect it to outperform a 400$ console and I think everyone knows that, definitive console version was clearly what was being said in the article. A PC offers a more future proof hardware since you can just buy a new gpu every so often and be ahead of a console that is a few years old, the initial investment is also higher. With a console people can spend that 400$ if that's all they have and there you go they can play all the console games they want and experience the games
How are people still talking about this?

PC is a whole different class - it's like comparing hot hatches to bonafide sports cars or exotics. With no upper limit to the amount of money you can spend, you can always get better performance. Consoles are entire platforms built around a unique hardware spec. Comparing a platform that includes everything from econobox Lovenas to custom built bleeding edge machines to a console platform is to perform a category error.

Yea! Because you know, super expensive hardware is the only option for those using PCs! If those people with single HD6870s want to improve the performance of games on their PC's they have no choice but to buy newest most expensive parts!
/sarcasm

Why are you ignoring the fact that PC's are open platforms unlike consoles? You do know that those people with say, an hd6870, could simply buy a second hd6870 and their system will already be significantly more powerful than both the ps4 and the xbone?
You know, unlike consoles, with PC's, people have the choice to either upgrade individual components with a more powerful part, e.g. hd6870 to 7970 or to add an additional video card to improve performance significantly.

This topic is about Watch Dogs. Never once was the phrase "definitive console version" used. The article mentions the PC version. Your direct attacks are very immature and make no sense in the context of this topic. There's an over 100 page topic on the front page about discussing the power of the two consoles that's not ambiguous in regards to the PC. This topic is quite clearly ambiguous and it's not even a good article so take a damn chill pill. This pent up rage at PC gamers is extremely unwarranted, there are annoying people on every side so these bizarre generalizations are quite unnecessary.

And Steam stats show the most common resolution is 1080p, the most common OS is W7 64 bit, most common RAM is 8GB, most common VRAM is 1GB, DX11 most common by far. Your point about that is just wrong.

This is cute and all, but what about the guy I quoted who actually did call people "snobbish assholes"?
If he called somebody an asshole, it's obviously offensive and he should be treated likewise. Are you trying to imply that somebody else's fault nullifies your own? This is very faulty logic. If you allow mud slinging to escalate, everybody will be covered in it and there are no winners. Mind you, I'm not calling you an asshole to retaliate because there's no reason to.

Are we really going to push for people to be banned now because it's possible to take offense to something they said despite there being some validity to it?
I'm not pushing for bans. The point I was trying to make is that calling people names leads to calling other people names just like in the example.

That user did not say "all" or "every" PS4 fan, he spoke of what you very well should know that there are fanboys waiting to gloat over the PS4's power despite the whole world knowing it's clearly more powerful than the Xbox One. He did not insult you and it's sad to want to someone who has made multiple valid points banned purely because it's possible to take offense to one.
He generalized, which includes everybody, then he went names. The message I got from his post is "PS4 fans are assholes".

I see it as an annoying trend and I'm not the only one judging by other responses (even the very "asshole" exchange I referred to). What's the point of comments like "My [insert PC config] is ready"? It's dick waving, nothing else. And there are hundreds of posts like that in dozens of threads. I just went to the other Battlefield thread about a new AMD GPU and somebody wrote there "LOL at consoles with less than 1080p", just out of the blue. You can also disagree with me that this problem doesn't exist. As long as we stay civil with our separate opinions, it's fine.

If it was inarguable, there would be no threads like this. People do have concerns.
None of the MS people ever claimed that the Xbox One was more powerful, just that it wasn't as big a difference as some are assuming based on the 50% more flops the PS4 GPU has.
I read a MS rep claim that X1 is the only 8th gen console. I'm sorry I don't have a link to that. It was some European MS rep in an interview. The same idea was supported by Phil Harrison in this interview, although his wording was more careful. You could say it's just PR but I find it way across the line of what you can say to push your product. But that's far away from the point of our discussion.

Many of the worst posts in this topic are ones that generalize PC gamers and your post is one that is guilty of generalizing. Am I going to call for bans because some of them might offend me?
Generalizing and offending people are two very different things. What if I edited my initial post and included the first quote about "assholes" which came from a console guy, would you still stand by your point? Because for me it's the same. Nobody should call anybody an asshole here, for any reason. And one shouldn't retaliate with the same because it leads to nowhere. On the other hand, I think that to remind somebody to behave is fair.

I also know I'm derailing this thread but how else could I speak up? Creating a thread just for that would lead to even more mud slinging. I'm going to stop right here, no more posts from me about it here and anywhere else. I just hope mods acknowledge this problem and apply their own judgement to it. I've seen many bans recently, tried to follow many people's posting histories and came to very little conclusions. It doesn't make me happy at all.

Read more carefully next time. The only person to call anyone an asshole was a console gamer, which you somehow used to launch into a tirade about PC gamers and their attitudes.

I guess graphics aren't the only thing PS4 fans are hypocritical about these days.

The best way I can describe why I cant get a gaming rigs for me and 10 year old son is this :

Try playing COD early sat morning on 360 - lots of screaming kids trying to quick scope and generally people running around like headless chickens and generally not MLG pros.

Play COD late night and it becomes serious, lots of MMS scanners on FALs, head glitch and deep tactical play from 'alpha males' who are good gamers.

So, I would 'perceive' steam community with players having good gaming rigs to be more like playing COD late night on a 360....with gaming mice and pin-point accuracy.

Its not really the type of community and friends list that is suitable for my Son who wants a casual on line game with a similar community.

Hence, although I would love a 9770 GPU, it has to be in a popular console where my son can play with 'like minded' gamers. Unfortunately I cannot see how Steam will ever be this casual.

So, its 2 x Ps4 or 2 x XB1, whatever most of my sons friends list / mates from school chooses - and at moment its looking like a switch to Ps4 (but we will see).

I don't see why PC players cannot see why PC gaming is not attractive to console players

Seriously though, if OP just added 'console' to the title we could have gotten a decent thread.

Or if the first post didn't derail the thread into a PC/console war. Or if PC supporters would recognize this is not the thread to have a PC/console debate in as it's completely off topic.

This thread may as well be locked, it has been thoroughly derailed and no discussion about the OP is going on.

PC version cancelled?

OP clearly compares between XB1 and PS4 versions. Says PS4 version is definitive.

PC elitists whine: "No this can't be. My Titans disagree with this. Next gen consoles are nothing compare to my Titans."

Console fans: "SMH stop derailing the thread."

PC fans: "Oh so its only derailing when it includes the PC. Unfair!"

Common sense poster: "No its derailing because the comparison is between consoles. Everyone knows PC has the best performance."

PC comparisons are, in almost every imaginable scenario, of zero value to anyone.

And it's rarely said but come on, console have fix hardware and those two consoles are directly competing with each other, on the same market. PC is something else completely and some rich guys brag about their master race pc but what if we took a real average power for pc in the world ? That'd be entirely different, and closer to what we should call "pc performance" on a game, after all..

If Blacklist is any indication, working with Nvidia is improving their PC ports. They are doing similar thing with Watch Dogs, so hopefully we see similar results.

Blacklist graphic engine is Unreal 2.5 i think. It should run at 1000 fps :)

Why do people get upset when "PC" is factored into the equation? Anytime words like "definitive" (or phrases like "best-looking") are thrown around, you know that SOMEONE is going to bring up the PC.

Because it's a console discussion. and it's obvious he was talking about just consoles.

Vita has a few cross play titles or ports from consoles. Do you see people going into those threads boasting about the console performance advantage over the handheld? No, because we won't expect a handheld title to look better than a console game the same way we won't expect a console game to look better than the same game running on a high spec PC.

TBF the OP mentions the pc version and it doesn't state definitive console version. Also games like gears of war when they came out did indeed look better than almost all pc games so it isn't always a foregone conclusion (though in this generation it seems to be).

Basically this whole thread is hypocritical irony. PS4 owners shit on XB1 users because it's more powerful and PC users shit on PS4 owners because it's more powerful. Well no shit because that's precisely what many PS4 owners are doing, and yet for some magic reason pc owners can't do the same. You don't have to shit on the Xbox every chance you get (not talking personally), but many do so point the finger towards yourself before you point it at others.

And everyone knows the PS4 is more powerful than the Xbox One. Digital Foundry/Lens of Truth comparisons are going to get tired real fast because we already know who's gonna win.

We know which console is more powerful, that doesn't mean we always know who's going to have the best versions of games.

Sure, if in the whole first year the PS4 bests the XBO in every comparison, then it will render the comparisons as redundant as comparing PC versions, but we don't know that's going to happen, at all.

I'd say it's not as obvious no. Cause first, specs are something and real world is something else, and it will vary with games, and political balancings. PS4 superiority will be real only when we have games in front of our eyes i'd say. It's normal people are still debating about it. And XBO fans must have some hope :p

You don't have to be rich to be able to afford a PC more powerful than consoles. That complaint is complete bullshit anyway, look how many people who post on here spend thousands of dollars buying games many of which they don't even play.

The fact that PC's aren't constrained by the same artificial restrictions as consoles doesn't make them irrelevant.

Pretty much this. Basically for the last few months the xbone has constantly been getting shit on because it is underpowered compared to the PS4. When people make the same comparison with the PC (with games that are releasing on both no less) everyone gets up in arms.

PC comparisons are, in almost every imaginable scenario, of zero value to anyone.

Why is that exactly? The comparison is certainly of value to those in a position to get the game on PC. It's valuable to those people who might be interested in playing games like this with the best possible graphics.

What exactly makes the comparison meaningless?

The amount that PC versions are superior to their console counterparts fluctuates wildly. In some cases where devs do a really shitty port the PC version isn't superior at all. The comparisons aren't redundant at all.

They will get less and less hits as all the face-offs become the same story over and over so ppl won't even bother going to their sites.

Yeah, it's obvious to me that he was only speaking on the console versions of the game. But I don't have a problem with people bringing up PC, either.

Because the PC has never, and will never lose a comparison.

You already know the answer. It's like we're doing post-game commentary on a race between two go-karts and a formula one car, it's pointless.
