It's an entertainment center not a dedicated gaming console.Convincing folks to spend $500 on a dedicated gaming console is an issue and it's one that marketing can't fix.
Same goes for PS4 though and that's the problem.

For people who don't frequently visit sites like gaf I would think. Why is there even an article about what has been known for a long time
I see 4 or 5 commercials an hour for Surface tablets so they must be selling like hotcakes.
Isn't Pachter talking to investors who might know next to nothing about the industry? It doesn't sound that asinine to say things this this obvious to the hardcore gaming crowd if his intended audience don't know any better.
Surface Pro 2 is a good comparison, has a lot of features, but it's overpriced compared to it's competition (Ipad, Nexus 7).
MS will get outsold until they can match on price, period. There are plenty of things they can do to make up for the power difference but they can't overcome that.
Sorry to get off topic, but really? Surface Pro 2 competition is MacBook Air if you need to bring in an Apple product, but even that's a stretch. The iPad and Nexus aren't in the same league or even targeting the same market.
Even a $50 price drop at E3 would help a lot. Sony can just include a free PSN game and a few months of Plus to counter though.
One month? They'll be the second best selling Next gen system for the rest of the generation.

I disagree in regards to NA. Globally maybe.
I still think X1 will win this holiday. Not saying PS4 doesn't have a shot, but come Black Friday most people will walk out with X1 and CoD Ghosts.
They already are though. 2 weeks of PS+ and drive club for free (PS+ subscribers). I think Sony is in a great place right now. Every console is essentially bundled with a game. Anyone who wants to play online will get PS+ anyway (as they would have to buy live otherwise).

I wouldnt bet money on anything. All it takes is one must-have to change everything.
Not in North America, but they don't need pack-ins here yet.

MEGATON

Mysteriously, Sony will reverse their policy on stating sales figures.
We get the plus version of Drive Club as part of PS Plus too, so I'm not sure what you're talking about.
Edit: Beaten
And for good reason. No sport is as competitive as gaming. No piece of literature is as throught provoking or well written. The best aspects of music and film are integrated and actually elevated in the gaming medium. Standard controller games are the last non-VR entertainment bastion. The final frontier.
Yeah, cheaper price (that's all that matters) and better hardware. I'd be extremely shocked if it didn't.
You can't just "pump out lots of good games", it take years to build studios of sufficient quality, nevermind develop the actual titles.I have to say, I actually hope Pachter is right. And I, currently, plan on getting an Xbone(first. I don't know when I'll get a PS4, but the Order 1886, Infamous SS, Knack, and Killzone SF have me convinced I will be getting one).
Why? Simple.
If the Xbox does not sell as well as the PS4, then Microsoft will compelled to continue to pump out lots of good games to compete with Sony. Once Microsoft feels secure, then they will likely feel content to slow down a bit. We know Sony was compelled to do this when the 360 shot ahead of the PS3, and look where they are now with the amount of games they have (the quality is debatable, but you can't deny that most are deffinately worth playing and in certain instances, stellar).
If the Xbone is selling poorly, then Halo 5 better be pretty stinking amazing for some people to get one.
You get me?
Earlier launch and better price if I had to make a guess.is there a consensus as to why the 360 comfortably beat the ps3 in the US?
Why?
MS better start creating new dev teams asap then. Sony already had a lot of internal teams, that's why they could pump out game after game. MS doesn't have that luxury.

EDIT: I sure as fuck don't want MS to buy Take Two, that would be awful :/
Pack (Pach?) it up, Sony, it's over. It was a good try.
The console that ships the most will likely win. Also, seeing as public perception is far more in favor of Sony than Microsoft and every indicator points to Sony shopping more units this year, this seems like a no-brainer. I guess that's why it's SHOCKING NEWS. Will this be Pachter's first correct prediction?

It's going to be boring and predictable. January NPD is where the fun starts if you're interested in that kind of stuff.
I think PS4 will break all the launch history records in terms of sales.

I think your crazy.
How much did the Wii sell first month / 3 months?
The Wii was cheaper and easier to make and was hyped to hell and back pre release.
Then again since then years and years of apple products have trained the market that its ok to spend $500 on expensive non essentials so maybe that will help the PS4.
Wii have big supply issues... I think PS4 will have better supply at launch.I think your crazy.

Nintendo sold a bunch of Wii Us at launch. Selling launch units isn't hard. What happens in Jan, Feb, March etc is what's going to tell the full story. Has Pach said anything about who he thinks will be selling the most non-holiday/launch units?
