TLOU team originally working on a new Jak and Daxter

Didn't they also say Daxter may have been mute? Would've been terrible if so, but a new IP in the vein of the style they were going for would be cool.

Remember reading about this a while back. It's for the best they didn't go ahead with it. They have bigger fish to fry these days and a new J&D wouldn't have sold as much in it's lifetime sales as TLOU did on it's first day on shelves.

If a new J&D happens, Sony should bring in a new(ish) studio like they did with Sanzaru and Sly Racoon. That worked out pretty damn well.

Glad they didn't take Jak in that direction. I still expect a Jak and Daxter game in te future though. Somebody should be able to handle the IP.

How dare you. J&D is a fantastic series.

No. No no no. Jak & Daxter is a fantastic game.

Jak is a fucking godawful miserybomb of a series.

Daxter A didn't really work, but the more animal like Daxter B, E and H is great. and Daxter G is hilarious, remind me of that pug from Men in Black

The only really good game in the J&D series is the original. The rest are full of broken, frustrating ideas and embarrassing "edginess." If Sony brings back the franchise, I hope they hand it to a developer that realizes that the first game was just a solid 3D platformer.

Yep, hopefully there is someone developing it right now.

AFAIK Bluepoint are "bringing back a Playstation classic" or something along those lines so maybe?

Would you even need the same resources for a Jak & Daxter? I can't imagine a 3D plattformer taking as much work as Last of Us. Maybe they could make it as a side project?

E is the best one, but D is also good, i agree.

Good lord i'd play a game with that style so hard my thumbs would fall off.

Fiiine. Jak & Daxter is okay, but not high up on my list series I really care about seeing again.

I'm glad they chose to go with The Last of Us, because it's the best game Naughty Dog has made for this generation, and has a lot of good things going for it in bolder areas of design than Uncharted.

Good.

After playing Jak 1 I thought it was okay, I hadn't played a collectathon in a while and I certainly liked its implementation in a platformer more than I like it in shooters but I wasn't a huge fan of the platforming aspect of Jak.

Edit:
And the Last of Us blew my pantaloons off, one of the must plays of this generation for me.

Im totally open to series reinvention (loved the art direction DmC went in an one of the few fans of Jak 2) so I would have loved to see this

No to both of you.

Jak 2 & 3 were great. Jak 1 was good, but had to change a bit otherwise it would have just been Crash Bandicoot - Collect-a-thon edition.

no offense but every instance I've seen of someone enjoying Jak 2 involved them last playing it when they were 12

I don't really think the Jak series holds up all that well as the games were all pretty aimless and focused heavily on collecting things. The first game in particular was from an era where developers were still trying to duplicate the Mario 64 style star collection without realizing that those stars were simply end points to a unique stage rather than an arbitrary object to collect.

Also, every Jak game featured terribly uninspired music which is pretty damning for a platformer.

And the question here is... what was wrong with doing a new game in the original's (TPL) vein?, why did they feel the need to "dark it up"?, hell with all the "serious" games coming out it would've been a breath of sweet fresh air.

Yeah that Daxter art is making me think this not happening was a very good thing. Also TLoU is amazing, so...

But I do want more Jak. Just... not this realistic shit that they were wanting to do. Wtf.

Reason why they went with The Last of Us. It was too far from the original design, look and style.

Hmmm not how I feel about that art for Daxter. I think it would have been really interesting to see a realistic style Jak and Daxter game, and for everybody complaining about how 2nd and 3rd are worse and for "edginess," no. You are entitled for your opinion, but they are still very good games and both are better than the original uncharted.

I know not of the games you speak. I only know of Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy and Jax and Daxter: The Lost Frontier. The rest is nothing more than spin off garbage that doesn't deserve to be mentioned in the presence of the two glorious J&D games.

I agree with LoU being their best game, however Jak 1 was a really fantastic exploration-platformer.
Jak 2 was kind of shitty and Jak 3 was pretty great, yet very different from the first.

I would love for them to make a Jak 4 closer to the first, without those guns and shit.

It was obviously an indication of what they really wanted to do. TLoU ended up being far and away the darkest game they've made.

they should take what they've done and make it a new IP. although I love TLoU, it'd be nice to get another 3d platformer again, especially after people whining about Uncharted auto platforming, I love the seamless world from Jak and Daxter, a new IP in that vein would be amazing.

I love Jak II and 3. Not as much as TLOU, but damnit, I still want a new Jak and Daxter game in the future. Maybe not with the proposed artstyle though...

About the Daxter art, they were most likely brainstorming how he would look with better graphics, drawing what he would look like as a normal ottsel that he was cursed to turn into (pure animal form) and then put his gear on it, and then give him facial expressions. All this just to see how it would look.

Look at the backgrounds picture with Daxter in it. He looks like the old animated smiling Daxter. Maybe he would have had higher def fur, some believable joints and look more like a animal due to better graphics.

OK, you're good people.

(Was that fourth game really that good?)

Yep, and Sanzaru are working on another game for Sony.

Yup, I imagine sanzaru are on Sly and Insomniac might be making something aimed at 2015 along side a certain Sony film called ratchet and clank, Unless Sanzaru are doing the R+C for 2015.
